Pakistani Christians are under threat after murder of two Christian brothers outside court

Sister of man shot dead by terrorists mourns over him

By Aftab Alexander Mughal

Two Christian brothers, who were chained together, were gunned down by two suspected Muslim militant gunmen when they felt the court under police custody after a trial hearing in Faisalabad city, Punjab province, on July 19 around 1.30pm. Both were immediately taken to Allied Hospital in the city where they pronounced dead. A police officer Mohammad Hussain accompanying them was also seriously wounded.  Despite the police’s presence the killers easily escaped. The Minorities Concern of Pakistan strongly condemns this heinous incident and demanding that the culprits should be arrested without any delay.

In some areas the clashes came out as a result and at least ten Christians and Muslims were injured. A church was pelted by Muslim protestors with stones and causing extensive damage. The protestors also damaged some shops. Police used tear gas to disperse the crowd. According to police sources, around 60 Muslims were arrested in connections with the clashes. An exchange of fire was also reported between the both communities.

Pastor Rashid Emmanuel, 32, and Sajid Emmanuel, 30, a graduate business student of Faisalabad arrested July 2 under Pakistan’s controversial blasphemy laws’ section 295-C Pakistan Penal Code on the charges of writing a pamphlet with blasphemous remarks about Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).  Their funeral held on July 20 at 8am, early in the morning to avoid further clashes between Christians and Muslims.

Right after the attack on Christian brothers the local administration deployed a heavy contingent of police force and enforces Section 144 to control the situation in the town but the tension remains high yet. At around 10pm, on July 19, announcements were made from mosques in Waris Pura asking people to come out to fight against  Christians.

The local administration is trying to handle the situation to reconcile the both communities and bring peace in the city. The church leaders are also asking Christian community to remain claim and peaceful. According to a local newspaper report, Regional Police Officer Aftab Cheema and Commissioner Tahir Hussain have held a meeting with Catholic Bishop Joseph Coutts of Faisalabad. Both assured the Church leader of arresting the culprits soon. Additionally, Inspector General of Police, Punjab, Tariq Saleem Dogar has suspended SP (Investigation) Faisalabad, Muhammad Hanif and DSP Civil Lines Ashiq Jutt on account of negligence of duties and ordered departmental proceedings against them.

Just four days ago on July 16, announcements were made from some local mosques against local Christian in Waris Pura area of Faisalabad, the major Christian locality in the city. Angry Muslims also distributed flyers calling for mass action against Christians. Before that Muslim mobs marched July 10-11 in the city demanding the death penalty for both alleged blasphemer. They stoned Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Waris Pura and burnt tires on the roads to show their anger. Furthermore, they also tried to attack and burn the area where Emmanuel brothers’ house was located. The protesters chanted slogans, raised weapons and announced to teach the lesson to the entire Christian community.

Besides, the mob also threatened that if the brothers are not executed according to the blasphemy laws they will take action by themselves.

The local Christians say that the allegation against them was fabricated and no evidence to support the charges against them has emerged. The Minorities Concern of Pakistan learnt that the hand written photo-copied pamphlet, which has so enraged area Muslims, was distributed by unknown persons, yet the names and telephone numbers of the two Christians, Rashid and Sajid, are listed on them.

Shahbaz Bhatti, the federal minister for minority affairs of Pakistan, said the suspected men were falsely accused of blasphemy by people with a grudge against them.

Mehboob Sada, director Christian Study Centre Rawalpindi told Minorities Concern of Pakistan, “It is not possible that somebody can put his name and telephone number on any blasphemous material.”

Khurram Shahzad believed to be an activist of Tehrik-i-Hurmat-i-Rasool (peace be upon him), got the two brothers arrested. Surprisingly, he does not live in Faisalabad but lives in another city Samundri. The THR is a newly formed Islamic organization. This raised question that why nobody else filed the complaint against Christian brothers but a person outside the city?

Both brothers were arrested without a legitimate investigation, for blasphemy, Asian Human Rights Commission says.

Christians say that the murder of two Christian men is the result of the negligence of police and the local government authorities and bias attitude of the Punjab government towards religious minorities. Many media reports say that the Punjab government of Pakistan Muslim League has reportedly closed connections with banned militant organizations. Apart from that still there are many sympathizers of extremists are part of the police and establishment which encourage them to attack on religious minorities.

After the murder of the alleged blasphemers, Christians throughout Pakistan  are under threat and fear an escalation of violence, just as was the case in Gojra one year ago where nine Christians were burnt alive, many were injured, and more than 120 Christian homes destroyed by a Muslim mob who were enraged about allegation that a Christian in a nearby village had defamed Islam.

According to National Commission for Justice and Peace (NCJP), 35 Christians and Muslims have been killed extra judicially in connection with allegations involving blasphemy since 1992. Moreover, since 1987 at least 1035 men and women including Muslims, Ahmadis, Christians and Hindus have been accused though none of the allegations sustained or sentence was held by the higher judiciary of the country.

This is not the first incident of its kind but shows the tendency where Christian localities have been targeted because of the alleged allegation of blasphemy and Holy Quran, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and Islam. Following are the major occurrences in this regard: Shantinagar (1997), Sangla Hill (2005), Qasur, Korian, Gojra and Sialkot (2009).

False allegations were used to loot and burn properties belonging to Christians in, NCJP, a human rights body of  Catholic Bishops Conference of Pakistan, reported.

The blasphemy laws were introduced by President General Zia ul-Haq (a military dictator) in the 1980s to win the support of hard-line religious groups. The Section 295-C of Pakistan Penal Code carries the death penalty. The laws have been criticized by religious minorities and human rights organizations.

Christians are just 1.5 per cent of the total population of the county have been discriminated and persecuted because of their religion.

Father Emmanuel Yousaf and Peter Jacob, the Director and Executive Secretary of NCJP, a human rights body of  Catholic Bishops Conference of Pakistan, said that the Christian community in Pakistan is deeply concerned over the apathy on part of the government about the abuse of blasphemy laws. They demanded an immediate action to deal with situation. The government should immediately conduct a thorough review of the blasphemy laws and repeal them on account of their known disastrous effects on the society.

The Asian Human Rights Commission demands that the government should also follow the amendment made in the blasphemy laws that no FIR for blasphemy can be filed without an officer of the rank of Superintendent of Police. Therefore the government should take action against those responsible police officers who, without proper investigations, filed the FIR for blasphemy against two Christian men at the pressure from some Muslim extremist groups. ###

  1. Hi seeker,

I hope you'll take my suggestion and stop responding to the followers of Pat Robertson and the patrons of "The 700 Club". There is absolutely no use and it is just a total waste of your precious time. In an earlier post you mentioned about the mass conversions that are taking place in India due to false propaganda and deceit. Pl. do not worry about it. These things are bound to happen in Kaliyuga as predicted, when Dharma devata has only one leg. If you believe in our Epics, remember what happened in Satya yuga. When Hiranyakasipu declared that he was the God and was forcing every one to say "Hiranyaaya Namaha", it took only a little Prahlada to make Lord Vishnu reincarnate, destroy the evil and to re-establish Dharma. Even if one of us has that kind of faith, no force on this earth can wipe out the Sanatana Dharma (The eternal truth). Millions of Pat Robertsons will be living and dying with their hatred wasting their precious lives talking ill of Hinduism and Hindus to their hearts' content. In my opinion we shouldn't give any importance to their views or arguments. If you seriously think about it, who were those "Hiranyaksha and Hiranyakasipu" in Satya yuga, "Ravana and Kumbhakarna" in Treta yuga and "Shishupaala and Dantavakra" in Dwapara yuga? They were none other than "Jaya and Vijaya" who were the ardent devotees and the dutiful guards of Lord Vishnu who had to take three births as demons due to a curse and to become the enemies of Lord Vishnu. I sincerely believe that who ever is attacking the Hindu God(s) is also doing so because of his/her own Karma and ignorance and only deserves our sympathy and love. If we develop this attitude, we will not get upset when they attack us.

I say:But what about the amazing 70-80 incurable diseases all cured by drinking cow urine & eating cow dung.Surely there must be hospitals to provide these amazing medicinal products (a.k.a piss & crap)

The hindu in this pic know what I'm talking about.

  7. @Santiago: I will go by Ayodhyarama's advise and stop dispensing anything on hinduism to you or your lot. One thing I am tempted to comment here is, the more number of people like you, faithdefender, Kababa, ff67 etc. join christianity is good for us. We will be very happy the moment all the ignorant gullible people become Christians or muslims – that leaves us only few quality hindus and that is our objective!! Enjoy your dark faith.

  8. @seeker:

I will wholeheartedly join you to celebrate that joyous moment, declaring "Good-riddance"!

  9. @ayodhyarama@seeker

ha ! ha ! ha ! you both are really funny. It's better to satisfy your ego's by praising each other. Good Job! Keep it Up !

  10. The most murdereous religions in the world are Islam and Christainity between them they murdered looted, raped and pillaged almost the whole world. They have destroyed cultures, literature and ancient know how all in the name of god. The world was a better place before these religions came along.

People like santiago29,kababa, FF67 are narrow minded fundamentalists who are limited in thought by the very concept of heaven and hell. Their religion binds them to it by fear of hell and lure of heaven. To me they sound like made up stories.

I wonder if there really is a heaven and a hell. Has anyone been there to tell us about it or taken pictures we can have a look at? The other question is where in the universe are heaven and hell located? I always believed the universe is infinite afterall no scientist has been able to locate the begining or end of our universe yet. They believe that jesus is gonna come and save them hehehe. They say jesus was the son of god what a tale i mean why would god need a son why could god not take the form of a human afterall god can do anything god likes so why the need for a son.

So what does the god of jesus tell us about what is inbetween heaven, earth and hell.

  11. Seeker :”We are open minded and inclusive believing in goodness of every religion where as you don’t”

Do you even aware of what you’re saying, if all path lead to the god, is islam included?

You’re a bit funny, you said christian is dark faith, but you will anytime go to church and pray, as for your information I will not step into the mosque, let alone sit on the floor and listening the imam.

You said: “However, as a sane person I can’t take any of Bible’s teachings and I wonder how you people do that!!”

In NT jesus tells us to love your neighbour, can you do that? Do you have to be insane to do that, please explain?

  12. Ibnsahr: Islam is not a path, it is a deadly violent cult. Hope it answers your question. Now me going to church, I go because I consider church is a place of worship and I go for sole purpose of worship, I don't care if it jesus or any other god. The problem starts when I listen to the contents of bible. The class I attended, it started off with saying earth is just 5000 years old, there is no science without christianity, and it certainly seemed to me like a thrid grader talking without much substance. Now decide who is funny!

  13. Dear Ibnsahr,

The concepts of Hinduism are summarised in these two sentences…"Vasudeva Kutumbakam" and "Sarvae Janaa Sukhino Bhavantu", meaning "The entire Universe is only one family" (under one Supreme God) "May every one in it live very happily". When we believe in these concepts, we have to consider our neighbors as our own family members despite all the differences and we have to love every one. There are no two ways about it. If some one is not following it, he obviously does not understand the basic tenets of Hinduism. This was told in our scriptures, even before Jesus was born or NT was preached.

However, in my own blood related family, if my own brother is constantly criticizing me, abusing me, hurting me and causing me pain with his words or actions, I will feel and say "Good-riddance" when he leaves home. This is only human nature. That does not mean that I do not have love and affection for him. We try to practise "Live and let live". Problems arise when others do not believe in that principle and try to impose their beliefs on others.

As far as Islam is concerned, we do not hate the Muslims, but we have enough evidence now, thanks to the internet, to hate the preachings of Islam. Previously most of us were quite unaware of who was Mohammad and what he taught. So we were treating Islam also as another religion but NOT ANY MORE. We have to save the world from the destruction caused by Islam and that is why we want to form an united front. This goal can not be achieved if we, the non-muslims, keep fighting among ourselves.

Though you addressed seeker in your previous post, I thought I'll share my thoughts with you. It was long since I had a little chat with you. Thanks.

  14. @ Santiago 29: You have quoted verses that you claim show a violent streak in Rig Veda. Apparently you maynot have looked up the verses in their entireity. The Vedas instruct that the battle is to be fought only when the enemy has already launched an attack or an intent to launch one is obvious.

So for the verses you posted, the basis is what I stated above

O brave warriors, rise with your banners and prepare yourself for (battle) to protect the territorial boundaries of the country. O snake like swift warriors, O demons like men and other people, chase the enemy who attempts to attack.

    (Rig.5.54.14) (Ath.11.10.1)

O warriors, you cannot be conquered by any one, you can not be killed or subdued by any one; but you do not trouble any one nor plunder any area. You are assigned to protect the Kingdom. Rig.5.54.7

Try looking up wwwdotesamskritidotcom/essaydashchapters/MilitarydashSciencedashindashthedashVedasdash1dotaspx for the whole package/ And obviously the Vedas donot ask the followers to fight against infidels or heathens like Islam or Xtianity for not acknowledging the Hindu God or scriptures.

  15. @ Faithdefender: You have tried too hard to show that your faith enlightens people in ways the others donot by using the example of Effiel tower. The problem with both Islam & Xtianity is that they claim exclusivity to the road that takes one to God. This is no different from the "exclusive" news tag of CNN or Fox News. Why don't you let others decide for themselves how to understand God instead of making God your exclusive backyard? And both Islam & Xtianity indulge in dawah and conversion. Who are you folks to decide what's the right approach to God?

And you talk about an example of one criminal embracing Christianity. I have been personally involved in making converts realize what they are missing. The one reason lower caste Hindus are open to Xtianity is casteism. And the lure of money, rice bags and freebies,of course…And many criminals in the jails do convert to Xtianity owing to fact that there is the hatch of "confession" to screw it up and get away with it in Xtianity. And similarly in Islam, any brutality will be tolerated if it is done in the name of Allah. Two sides of the same coin….

When Jesus couldnot even prevail upon & purify a renegade desciple like Judas, it is funny, you people believe following Jesus will purify and absolve you of sins.Your herd mentality is the same of Muslims.

  16. shamu16 says:

They have destroyed cultures, literature and ancient know how all in the name of god. The world was a better place before these religions came along."

I say:Just because a group has killed more people than another group doesn't make the latter good.

for eg.Al Qaeda has killed less people than the Thuggies but that doesn't make Al Qaeda better.

shamu says:The other question is where in the universe are heaven and hell located? So what does the god of jesus tell us about what is inbetween heaven, earth and hell."

I say:I could ask you the same question, where is hell & paradise as mentioned in hinduism?

Christians have different views of heaven & hell. Some believe it's in another dimension, others believe heaven is where God's presence is & hell is where He's presence (Love) is not felt.

Why would god need a son?Well my question to you is,why would god need to incarnate as an animal?

  17. seeker says:The class I attended, it started off with saying earth is just 5000 years old, there is no science without christianity, and it certainly seemed to me like a thrid grader talking without much substance. Now decide who is funny!"

I say:The class I attended, started off saying that the earth doesn't exist,we are all pretending to be here.So no need for science in hinduism. After all how can scientists determine the age of the earth if it never happened, right?

Now you decide who's funnier, the realist or the illusionist?

    ———————————————————————————————————-

Apolloreach says:@ Santiago 29: You have quoted verses that you claim show a violent streak in Rig Veda. Apparently you maynot have looked up the verses in their entireity. I say:Exactly. You also know that the wars that were fought in Biblical times are not commands for Christians to kill.If they were commands to kill, then we would have seen the founder of Christianity,Jesus & his disciples behaving like Muhammad & his thugs (companions). These 2 groups were the exact opposite.

    —————————————————————————————————-

Appollo says:And you talk about an example of one criminal embracing Christianity. I have been personally involved in making converts realize what they are missing. The one reason lower caste Hindus are open to Xtianity is casteism."

I say:Your beef should be with the discriminatory hindu caste system & not with the christians.

    —————————————————————————————–

Apolloreach says:When Jesus couldnot even prevail upon & purify a renegade desciple like Judas, it is funny, you people believe following Jesus will purify and absolve you of sins.Your herd mentality is the same of Muslims."

I say:We believe Jesus is God & God is love.So yes, love can purify you. It's not Jesus's decision to purify an individual…it's up to the individual.

And no we don't have a herd mentality because we don't worship & believe in the wish fulfilling cow or cattle.

    __________

My point is Why you believe that every path leads to one God? Then you yourself approve that Islam too leads to God. Isn't it?

As I said Hinduism contradicts Itself and I mention Four Important Inseparable branches of Hinduism

    namely

Vaishnavism: There is No God Except Vishnu(Krishna )

    Written in Srimad Bhagavatam

Shaivism: There is No God except Shiva

    written in Shiva Purana

Shaktism- There is No God Except Devi

    written in Devi Purana

Smartism: Many gods but not ultimately true

You fall in this category which believes that every path leads to one God.

It is the Smartism propagated by Adi Shankara that worships six deities – Ganesha, Shiva, Shakti, Vishnu, Surya and Skanda. Smartism allows devotees to choose their Ista god.

If I write in detail about each of these sect then it will take lot of time and also will crowd the post here.

I'm providing you link here Just read it and If you have the guts try to refute it but please one suggestion don't twist the fact as I have seen you and other fellas keep doing that.

Wow ! what an excuse ? You Hindus have continues habit of blaming Missionaries for forceful conversions. But in all These years not a single case you have brought forward that proves your claim.Talking of luring , I wanna say that If those who have converted due stuff provided by missionaries then I'm damn sure that they can do it for any religion, I mean to say if I would have been a poor chap and some Hindu Missionaries would have given me something in return I only had to convert to Hinduism then I may had done that in front of you but in my heart I would have worshiped Jesus only.

So this proves That either those Hindus who converted lacks in faith or don't believe in Hinduism respectively only for namesake they are Hindus.

Talking of criminal I would say you didn't took the pain in watching this Criminal Anil Sharma's Story otherwise you wouldn't have said.

"I have been personally involved in making converts realize what they are missing."

    ____________

    What they are missing?

Are you joking? They had missed whatever they were earlier , Now they are touched by true love of Christ.

Ok ! I'll ask you one thing ,what about millions of Muslims coming to Christ Through Visions. These things are happening in middle east frequently not only in Arabic Countries but also in India and many other places. They are plently of Testimonies of these Muslims who at some point of time were Staunch Muslims who were fed from their Childhood days that Islam is the only True path but Ultimately Jesus Changed their lives.

Have you ever heard of Muslim living in middle east becoming Hindu? never na!!

Check out these videos , atleast one of them:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJFlVSsCrn8&fe… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ods0_B_eOLg&fe… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oe0k1vr4ud4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pi8HTSvSQ_0&fe…
now you'll say that either these videos are fake as many Muslims themselves claim that but also say that these people were mentally ill or having delusions. But How can Delusions are happening to Millions of them and why only about Jesus Christ why not about Hanuman or Krishna?

Recent statics itself show that there are many secret Underground House Churches in Iran conducted by converted Muslims and also in many other Arabic Countries. You can't deny that.

    Basic Difference

Hindus& Muslims — They take others Lives for their Faith.

Christian– They gives their life for their Faith.

Basic Difference Between Islam and christianity

Islam– You have to convert to this True faith.

Christianity– It's up to you to convert or not. It's about free will and Choice.A christian has responsibility of sharing Good News with you its totally up to you to accept it

  19. @Santiago: You logic does sound like a first grader – not even a third grader!

  20. Seeker, islam is the cult that leads to evil path, not every path lead to virtuousnes, do you think walking in the path of Muhammad will lead you to somewhere virtue? Do you think walking in the path of Jesus will lead a virtue life?

Who do you worship in the church, the god who inspired the bible that none of ‘sane person can take its teaching’ or any of your favorite hindu’s gods?

Church is the place where all the people who have dark faith (as you mentioned earlier) go, shouldn’t you guide these people instead together worshiping the darkness.

You said:”and I go for sole purpose of worship, I don’t care if it jesus or any other god”

What about Muhammad or allah? Do you care? Something just don’t add up in your posts

You still avoiding my question twice, in NT jesus tells us to love your neighbour, can you do that? Do you have to be insane to do that, please explain?

About your attending the class, that’s not funny, that’s for kindergarten, something like introduction to Christianity, when you mature in Christianity, you will understand that’s not what Christianity is all about, do you think god will write the recipe how the earth formed and why? Of course you will not understand, once again, bible is not God’s DICTATION, there supposed to be flaws in it, but read between the lines. Bible is not a sience book, its book for moral guidance, golder rule itself is not enough.

Do you know swinger club? some people don’t have problem swaping their wives, they act according to golden rule, but is it right?

  21. Dear Ayodhyarama,

“The entire Universe is only one family” same with the Christianity concepts to love your neighbour that different to you, but im afraid im not agree with your philosophy regarding the social strata practiced in Hinduism.

And I think the muslim appeasment in Europe is part of Christian legacy to love others with catastrophic results.

You said:””. Problems arise when others do not believe in that principle and try to impose their beliefs on others”

Jesus says, “if they reject you, shake the dust of your feet and leave”, so when someone try to force conversion, they already violet the teaching of Jesus, end of story, it’s the perpetrator. And we can not paint the same brush to all Christians.

Whats the fault of others Christians who live on the other side of the world and just go about their daily life get harassed by ‘Army of shiva’ sympathizer in this forum, just because of what happened in India and between Indian itself? as we don't see any south american or greek crying out loud because christian took over their culture or past glory

  22. seeker says:@Santiago: You logic does sound like a first grader – not even a third grader!"

I say:What is with you & your constant first/third grade remarks? You starting to sound like a Zakir Naik fan.

  23. Hi Ibnsahr,

If you remember my other posts in various threads on this website, I have always been against people bashing any other religion besides Islam. Previously I mentioned to you that I have many Christian and Jewish friends who are simply wonderful and they also cherish my friendship. In my opinion, all religions basically teach the same thing to be a good and kind human being. If only we stick to that philosophy, all other rituals, modes of worship and the books to recite or follow… all these become totally immaterial. A good human being needs to be like a swan. It is said, when watered milk is given to a swan, it has the ability to separate the milk from water, drinks only the milk and leaves the water alone. Amazing, isn't it? Likewise, a good person has to absorb good teachings and morals from whatever books or whichever corner or religion they come from and leave all the bad and absurd things behind, to become a better person. The only religion (sorry, not a religion but a cult) that doesn't have any thing good is Islam. To be happy and at peace, we have to follow what our good conscience says as right and we should stay away from hurting others (just as Jesus preached).

You said, "we can not paint the same brush to all Christians". I totally agree with you here and I said it all along in my posts. There are probably only 5 fundamentalists on either side who want to "show off" their knowledge by copying undesirable things from other websites and pollute this site unnecessarily. It is really not in good taste, certainly spoils every one's mood, takes away the main focus and also affects the quality of this site. We have to give respect and take respect and I hope better sense prevails in future. Except the Islamic issues which we want to discuss here, Indians need to learn to deal with the other problems within India and definitely not here. I do not know, why is it so difficult for them to understand that no one here (except Indians) is interested to know what is happening in India and they can vent out their anger in Indian newspapers and websites?

  24. Dear ayodhyarama.

im speechless and i value your comment

  25. @Ibnsahr:

    You say:

You still avoiding my question twice, in NT jesus tells us to love your neighbour, can you do that? Do you have to be insane to do that, please explain?

    I say:

What is the matter with you? So, here you said Jesus said something nice and I don't see anything I need to explain!! Have I ever said everything Jesus said is insane? Lots of things written in bible are insane though! As Ayodhyarama pointed out it is in my acumen to accept the good things and reject the bad.

    You say:

”and I go for sole purpose of worship, I don’t care if it jesus or any other god” What about Muhammad or allah? Do you care? Something just don’t add up in your posts.

    I say:

The reason why we are all here is to bash Islam, and I never believed that there is anything good there in Islam. Why you end up feeling insecure that if somebody from another faith can worship in church can also worship allah? I don't get you there. You also will not understand the basic tenets of hinduism that accepts god in different forms.
