This is the worst idea I've heard of to combat Islam yet. I hope no one will take this seriously.

LUCKNOW (India) - A hardline Hindu nationalist party in the coalition government has offered money to Hindus who have 10 or more children in an attempt to counter the perceived growing influence of Muslims.

Shiv Sena will give the cash rewards to families in Uttar Pradesh, the country's most populous state, a party leader said.

'Hindu couples having 10 or more children would be suitably rewarded, and the couple having the maximum number of children in the state would be awarded a cash prize of 100,000 rupees (S$3,900),' said Shiv Sena's Uttar Pradesh president Vijay Tiwari.

Hmmm.. they might get a token reward all right, but just think of the troubles and expenses they'll go through in raising those 10+ children in today's times!! I wonder how many children this chap Vijay Tiwari has himself, and whether he himself follows what he is telling others. Rolling Eyes

This is completely crazy and not at all workable. UP does not have the resources to either provide the incentive or support what would be a huge birth rate. The trend for several decades has been reduced fertility; as result of education in family planning, economic and natural contraints. People will say many things but it cant actually become fruition. Even if the muslim populations are growing faster due to higher birth rates, the ytoo cannot be sustained and will come down.

What do you mean? what it was? I was recently reading an old book a kind of British Almanac on SouthAsia at the turn of the century it contained figures for British India for 1901. Back then there were approx. 207 million Hindus, 63 million muslims, 3 million christians and about 8 million sikhs and 8-9 million others.

I do not think there are 1947 figures since census are taken decadal. I am not sure raw figures are available easily online. Below is a link that gives some idea, but the infor in the tables seems to have an error and has shifted on column. According to this data in 1951 Hindus were approx 85% and Muslims 10%.
