The Importance of Being Hairless

British survey finds that women prefer clean-shaven men.

Are you a man who thinks that a moustache or a beard will make you more sexy? Do you think that women will find you more hip or dangerous with a Don Quixote-style goatee?

Don't put away that razor yet. According to a recent survey in Great Britain by Lynx, an aftershave manufacturer, 92% of women prefer men to be clean-shaven. The survey also found that 86% of female respondents dislike beards, 70% find moustaches obsolete, and two-thirds find goatees a turnoff.

However, 63% of British men still believe that facial hair will make them appear more manly, with 20% feeling ashamed that they can't grow full beards.

But men may not be entirely on the wrong track. Ironically, 72% of women in the same survey like Brad Pitt's facial stubble. Similarly, nearly two-thirds say that soccer superstar David Beckham's makes him more attractive. Yet a whopping 95% claim that stubble makes kissing an unpleasant experience.

The poll asked over 2,000 British men and women about facial hair and their perceptions of it. Of the men, only 8% have beards, although one-third of them occasionally go with stubble.

So if you're venturing back into the dating game after a separation or divorce, seriously consider shaving that beard before taking that first date -- unless you're sure she belongs to that 8% of women who actually like beards.
