|
|
So, the other day the haddrive on my laptop crashed, so I bought a new harddrive, and also 2 gigs (X1) ram, I had 2X 512 installed before, and I was running home basic (pre bundled) it was running fine until the harddrive crash.
I installed a new OP on the hadrive, I installed XP, and 1 stick of 2 gigs of ram, and 1 stick of 512, but there seems to be problems, the computer crashes often sometimes I can't even get it to turn on. I thought the problem was after I installed some sound drivers (although it still could be the sound drivers) at the moment I am just running the system out of necessity on 1 gig, it seems to boot up and work. I lost my vista cd but I have a genuine key-printed under my laptop, shall I go back to vista, will the ram problems solve? |

Most probably there's a problem with the 2gig stick of RAM. Its either faulty or incompatible with your motherboard. What brand & model is the laptop?
Since you are experiencing issues with it not even turning on sometimes then installing Vista will more than likely just give you the same problems. _________________ The doctrine of “chastity equals goodness” is nothing more than a device designed to control women's sexuality and to reduce women into objects “new” and “used!”(Voula Papas) |

Maybe the problem is your hardware does not support more than 2gb of RAM.... _________________ “If Islam laid down it’s weapons, there would be peace in the middle east.

Personally I see nothing of value in Vista. You would be better off, for the moment at least , to use XP instead. _________________ The Pagaal Chamar Bhangi Khargosh rules!!

It might be incompatible with my motherboard,as I have a dell laptop i1520 (its old but I use it only for surfing and documents) I also have a dell XPS system which is exclusively for gaming and also doubles up as a server when I need to. I tried the ram stick in the dell xps system that handled it no problem. |

Yeah vista sucked at the start, I was one of those to fist go for a vista ultimate edition, I also have a desktop PC another dell xps system and I am running vista ultimate on it, SP1. It's been pretty good, the SP1 ironed out most of the problems. |

It's a hardware problem, read the documentation to see how much RAM it supports and also try leaving the 512 out and see if the problems are still there. _________________ “If Islam laid down it’s weapons, there would be peace in the middle east.

XP supports upto 3 GBs of RAM. Goto crucial.com and scan you system to see what is the most it supports. How old is the laptop? _________________ If you cannot see god in all, how can you see god at all? |

The earlier versions of the i1520 support 667MHz (PC-5300) RAM. So it could be that your new memory is 800MHz (PC-6400) and your laptop is having compatibility issues with it.
As others have suggested go to crucial.com to scan your system to find out what memory it supports. Also try booting with just the 2GB stick in if you haven't already. _________________ The doctrine of “chastity equals goodness” is nothing more than a device designed to control women's sexuality and to reduce women into objects “new” and “used!”(Voula Papas) |

Unless it is XP X64 dont bother, highest memory XP addresses is 3GB. So your problem is pairing. You might have to pair. _________________ If you cannot see god in all, how can you see god at all? |
