shindeiru got banned for trolling, so how can we even trust that he/she even made a refutation post? Maybe shindeiru is just trying to get attention and try to make people look bad because he/she is a foolish muslim. _________________ "Show me just what Muhammad brought that was new and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached"_ Byzantine Emperor Manuel II Paleologus |

He did make a refutation post.
I didn't read it very carefully. I didn't expect it to be deleted.
It was full of insults and ad hominim attacks, of course.
But I don't know why it was deleted. It does seem fishy to me.
The way I see it is that there are two options: the Quran made an error or it didn't.
It makes more sense that the Quran made an error. There is no need for proof, one option just has to be more plausible than the other.
In the event that the Quran is not in error and means something else, Allah has made it LOOK like there is an error. Since Allah is all-knowing, he did this intentionally. Making him just that much more of a jerk for threatening everyone with hell if they don't believe what he wrote about himself in his best-selling book. |

His post did not tackle the subject of this thread.
It was full of red herrings, logical fallacies and of course insults.
So it cannot even be considered an attempt to refute the solid sky belief in the koran. _________________ Ahmed Bahgat[Qur'an 79:30]:- and the earth after that, He squashed it.....

I would rather you didn't spoil the focus of this thread.
Its easy to make up baloney when you don't have any shame, therefore it would be pointless.

Only a real muslim can answer.
The triumph of this thread was that no muslim answered. But after this business, we can only say no muslim answered in a satisfactory way. |

I would like to see you play devils advocate in the two threads below as I don't actually think you could come up with any alternative arguments:

OK, so the mossies have the following:
1/ The sun sets into the sea
2/ The sky is a canopy
3/ The earth is flat
1/ It's the movement of the earth!!!
2/ Canopy? huh?
3/ This one has to evoke the biggest laughs! since even on Islamic channels they show NASA pictures of earth and that is the strangest looking flat earth I have ever seen. While I am at it, space isn't flat either! _________________ The Borg is si-fi's Islam. The "Collective" is the Ummah and they assimilate the kaffir.

Hey, I was just thinking...you know what would really solidify this? If we had evidence that Arabians believed prior to or after Islam that the sky was solid.
Is there any? |

Sure, the Koran itself tells us what the Arabs believed in when the Koran was revealed:
21:32 - And we have made the sky a roof withheld (from them). Yet they turn away from its portents.
The above verse tells us Allah has made the sky as a roof as one of its signs. For this to be a sign indicates they believed the roof was solid.
050.006 - Have they not then observed the sky above them, how We have constructed it and beautified it, and how there are no rifts therein?
Allah tells us we can see how the sky is constructed without cracks.
This question only makes sense if the author and reader think the sky is soild.
The Babylonians, christians, Egyptians and greeks believed in a solid sky dome like structure. The Koran confims the Arabs unsurprisingly did too. _________________ Ahmed Bahgat[Qur'an 79:30]:- and the earth after that, He squashed it.....

Apparently, all of the ancient cultures in Arabia thought that the sky was solid. For example, the Babylonians certainly thought that the sky was solid. In Tablet IV of Enuma Elish, the Babylonian creation tale, after the god Marduk, having killed Tiamat, "split her in half like a shellfish, and from one half made and covered the heavens." Or, as Heidel translated the passage, with half of Tiamat Marduk "formed the sky as a roof". The sky's solidity is also attested to in Tablet V:9-11 , where Marduk "opened gates on both sides" of the sky so that the sun could pass through morning and evening.
The Hittites, who’s territory included modern Lebanon, also believed in a solid sky, as one of their recovered texts speaks of when they “severed the heaven with the earth with a cleaver”. The Egyptians believed the sky was made of metal, and the god Shu’s right arm held it up.
More could probably be listed, but you get the picture.
I don't see how they thought that, though...it doesn't look solid to me...but that's probably just because I've been thinking of it as a non-object my whole life. |

Here is an excellent essay on how most of the ancient cultures believed in a solid sky:
Historical evidence shows that virtually everyone in the ancient world believed in a solid firmament.
