Increasing number converting to Islam

ABU DHABI // More and more people are converting to Islam, according to figures released by a government-accredited centre in Abu Dhabi.
Since the launch of the New Muslim Center four years ago some 630 people have converted and the rate of conversions is rising all the time.
The centre, which opened in June 2004 under the patronage of the late Ali bin Ghanem bin Hamoodah, said 70 per cent of the converts were women and more than half the total came from the Philippines.
It said it received 15 converts in the first six months but now received the same number every two weeks.
Mohammed Nasser, the daawa, or preacher, who manages administration of the centre said he now saw more than one person every day.
“We get on average 10 people a week choosing to embrace Islam,” he said. “This number is increasing all the time.”
He said these numbers only represented “a fraction of the truth”.
“Embracing Islam is not something that has to be recognised by the government. It is an agreement between one person and God and can be done anywhere by anyone,” Mr Nasser said.
“Theoretically all new Muslims should come here for support and to learn how to read the Quran, but of course many people are supported by their own communities and can be Muslim for many years before declaring it to the government. Therefore I’m sure the number of new Muslims is much higher than the actual figure.”
Converting to Islam is a simple process. Converts must declare belief in one God – Allah – and that Mohammed was the last Prophet. To make the decision official the statement must be made in Arabic in front of witnesses. To receive a certificate the process must be repeated at a Shariah court.
A report by the World Christian Database last year estimated Islam was growing at 1.84 per cent annually compared to a global population growth rate of 1.12 per cent per year.
Mr Nasser said he was not surprised that most of the converts at the centre came from the Philippines. “It is not really a surprise that it has spread within one community as the way of Islam spreads through word of mouth.”
The centre’s figures showed that other converts came from all over the world – seven per cent from African countries, five per cent from India, five per cent from China and a handful from the Americas and Europe.
Mr Nasser said his work involved no formal recruitment process. He simply relied on word of mouth and the strength of his religion.
“When we opened the centre we didn’t have any adverts to notify people. It was initially set up as a place to distribute books to those who were interested in Islam. It was my job to invite people to listen, so I would talk to people on the street or in the market. Soon I had regular visitors and they began to speak to their friends and the message began spreading.”
The figures will be used by the General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowment to monitor the increase in converts across the emirate. _________________ And the day when the unjust one shall bite his hands saying: Oh, would that I had taken a way with the Messenger. Folks who meander into such Islamic centers don't ask tough questions and it is not surprising that such centers are the brainchild of MAMS to brainwash non-Muslims into ignorance and into Islam. They should just have 'Get in Can't Get Out' sign at the doorstep!! _________________ MAM = Muslims acting as Muslim Affairs Ministers for Modk. HAM = Last Profit of Islam. |

RazaF,
This may have some merit if there are Christian organizations in the UAE operating as freely and as openly as the Muslims ones. Otherwise it's natural to have a flow of converts to Islam. _________________ "Fools call us hate mongers. It’s easy to “convert” someone that is weak, poor or uneducated. That is where many converts in the 3rd world are taken from and then they are drawn into the real Islam, which is terrorist jihadism, with promises of eternal bliss with “Allah”’s 72 virgins if they engage in violence and murder.
The barbaric OT fables of “Abraham”, etc. never were the “word” of a deity, the NT pseudepigraphical constructs never were, and Islam, which borrowed from both, thusly can not be. The errancy and incongruity of these texts have been documented on numerous occasions. If an alleged deity were going to “reveal” the “only true” “word” via “angels”, it should have been no problem for said alleged deity to have said alleged “angel” appear to “prophets” all over the Planet….I.E. everyone should have had……the same books. The assertions that these are “divinely inspired” texts is, and always has been, patently absurd.

Why did we leave Islam?
“Understanding what the Quran is trying to convey and what the political Islam is doing, the inconsistencies, the hatred, the self pity, the blaming tactics, the refusal to look internally to see the rotten interior of the whole religious establishment, the constant persecution of the ‘conscientious’ and the ‘intellectuals’ within and the suppression of the common folks by the religious establishment.” –Anonymous
“It deprived me of the things that made life worth living: hanging with friends, going to parties, girls during the teenage years. This misery caused me to examine Islam and I found that Islam was violent, intolerant and a plague on mankind.” –Anonymous, Canada
“Islam has shown me judgment, fear and guilt. No rights as A woman and a coldness... It did not offer the answers I sought...” –Anonymous, USA
“I left Islam because my soul was screaming for release, I intuitively knew it wasn't holy.” –Drak, Australia
“Religions were created by humans for positive and negative purposes, Islam has very few of those positive so I don't need it ” – love and peace for everything, Algeria
“I felt stifled by constantly having to cover up. That may be all right for some Muslim women, but not for me. Also, I felt restless and bored sitting in Mosque, I don't know Arabic, so why should I sit in Mosque and be bored?” –Anonymous
“I never was really in to Islam but due to the love for a Muslim I tried my best to see good things in Islam. When I read about the prophet and the marriage with young Aisha I began to understand that this religion can't be from God. ” – Peace4u, Germany
“I felt stifled by constantly having to cover up. That may be all right for some Muslim women, but not for me. Also, I felt restless and bored sitting in Mosque, I don't know Arabic, so why should I sit in Mosque and be bored?” – Illyria, Canada
“Martial rape, being controlled. Not able to think on your own. Misogyny. hijab. Also more importantly I have a five year old son and I do not want him thinking that everyone who is not a Muslim is a 'Kuffar' and should be hated and killed.” – Vivian
“Because of what it preaches - violence, concept of Hell, Punishment, fear- overrides any other human needs like Love and caring for others. it's always about doing This or that or else... Rituals even in the prayers And fasting, korban etc. And the treatment of Women.... It's a cult alright.” – Malay freethinker
“I divorced a brother that tried to if not almost killed me. And I met someone who is now my husband and knew that it was true love I saw in him.” – bonuke, USA
“ It's neurotic to believe and follow regulations that are tailored for 7th century even they would have been working back then.. Islam is based on the thought that a person shall get perfect by deeds and constant halal/haram assessments. You need Islam everywhere even in your bed and in the toilet. The good deeds for their part don't even count as "good" but neurotic (praying in Arabic, washing, eating in some manner, walking in one manner, denying some normal or enjoyable things as listening to music). In addition some of those rules and even ideals are against human rights, lack individual freedom, the ideal of equality of both sexes in decision making. Furthermore, Islam inspires people to be suspicious and intolerant, even racistic towards other religions and encourage to so called narrow thinking. There is no pure and unconditional love, love and hate is for the sake of Allah and hence, love's not free and real but must follow Allah's rules. I really dislike animistic habits the effect of which has no logical explanation, I cannot accept inequality and suppression of sexes and praising of martyrs, and cannot categorize people according to their religion and limit anybody or my own freedom. Also, I don't think sex must be related to each and any communication and cloth. I want to be me, praise my Lord with music and singing, be independent, express myself, make decisions...etc..” – Friend, Finland
“I personally left Islam because, to put it simply, it was grim. ” – Anonymous, USA
“If you truly follow Islam, that means you must live in fear of hellfire all the time. Even though Islam dictates every aspect of your life, it fails to promote the most important values, like honesty, respect for all of humanity, individual choice and accountability, love, and I could go on. ”– Eva, USA
“Their teachings goes against many human rights.” – Elixx
“I find the whole idea of God nonsensical. Plus Darwin made a convincing argument for evolution.” – Ron Jeremy, Malaysia
“Because Islam is not for me whether it right or not.” – Juniper, Malaysia
“Because I am no longer comfortable in it, and I discovered that I am more comfortable as a Christian, as Christian teachings made more sense to me than Islamic teachings.” – Adam, Malaysia
“The main reasons I left Islam are because I found out that it allows wife beating, sex with prisoners of war and sex with children and I cannot accept a prophet who allows this. Other reasons include the intolerance of other religions, an imperialistic foreign policy and the belief that all non-Muslims are going to hell.” – Ben Rukhsana, Britain
“Islam didn’t make sense in many ways, and then I saw the so-called "miracles" of Quran are exaggerated stories. By knowing these 2 facts, I knew Islam was not a religion from God, but a creation of mankind. I believe Islam is not right for me, because I believe humans are born free, and for Allah to impose laws on us is unfair. Sure, breaking the speed limit is also a law but it helps protect other innocent civilians. Following Islamic rules like eating Halal food, Prayer and Hajj doesn’t protect or benefit people in any significant way.” – Sheraz Malik, USA
“Islam is suffocating. Everyone, up to and including god is watching your every move. Did you pray five times today? Did you fast today? Been a good slave to Allah lately? To be fair, a lot of other religions are somewhat like that, because religion, when used as a method of crowd control, requires oversight.” – Amin, Canada
“Islam is based on barbarism, male chauvinism, racism [in favor of Arabs], censorship, lack of freedom of thought and terrorism.” – Hale, USA
“Islam is not a religion of peace, as I erroneously believed before; it is an extremely fascistic doctrine perpetuated by the Arab imperialists.” - Abul Kasem, Australia
“I left Islam because it did not fulfill, or go along with my desire for love of the world. Ethically the concept of hell started my kufr.” – Abu Lahab, USA
“It's oppressive, restrictive, anti-humanism, stagnant, anti-progress, anti-joy, anti-women, and very violent and discriminatory in practice.” – Ampbreia, USA
“I left Islam because of glaring intellectual inconsistencies within the Quran and the Hadiths; because of the judgmental and angry way Islam deals with problems both internal and external.” – Bean, USA
“Because I became convinced that what Isa said in the Bible was true.” – Anonymous
“I started to realize how much hate there was in Islam. Especially after September 11th. I couldn't believe the support from a large number of Muslims for Osama bin Laden had for his crimes. Overtime, I started to have doubts about certain hadiths and ayats - later I found a website of other stories of people who left Islam. I looked closer at the ayats of scientific proof, I researched the "Satanic versed"... Everything just piled up against Islam... I just woke up...” – Anonymous
“I learned that according to Islam, non-believers are going to hell no matter what, which is not fair, it is a religion that is hard to follow and time consuming. Plus, as I women I couldn't accept the need to wear the veil (Q 4:31) and that men can beat women (Q 4:34).” – Murtad Mama, Canada |

How about standing forth and demonstrating that the Qur'an is a "divinely inspired" text and that Islam is the "only true" religion, Raza. We'll be waiting anxiously.....

Someone answer me this question: Why are fundamentalist Muslims so obsessed with the numbers game? What does it matter that so and so many people convert to a religion? Would it matter if 99.9% of the world was Muslim? Does this make Islam any more true? Any more peaceful?
Why don't we hear Christians shouting from the rooftops that their religion is the most popular in the world?
If Islam was truly God's religion, shouldn't everyone on Earth be Muslim by now? Or is it the fault of the evil Shaitan who God can destroy but chooses not to? |

In the case of World Religions, i.e. those aggressively expanding religions that intend to become dominant, it's seen as a measure of success. I suppose you could say the numbers "prove" the original prophecy that Islam is destined to overcome.
Except that in real life they don't.

Big deal. We know there are many people also leaving Islam (the most noteworthy is probably Africa). Of course, this is a very difficult statistic to ascertain, simply for the reason that no western person is going to go slit the throat of his/her fellow citizen who has decided to embrace Islam. Muslims exploit the western value of freedom of belief when it guarantees victory points for Islam.
On the other hand, we know what happens to those who courageously wish to leave Islam.
Seriously, how can this study be accurately conducted in countries where it is the official policy of the governments to execute those who defect from Islam? This by and in-itself makes the numbers prone to disproportion. |

Yes, it's true RazaF. I too have converted (oooops! reverted) to Islam. I have embraced Islam's many contradictions. I am with a sect that calls itself New Age Muslims. We hate the prophet, fellow muslims, the 5-times-a-day prayer routine, the burqa, beards and a host of other stuff. All our crappers are built in such a way so that when nature calls our rear end always faces Mecca.
Thank you sister |

| They left out the part where the convert's lives were made so unbearable that they were basically forced to convert. That 'no compulsion' is just propaganda that muslims use to feel good and to just spout more deception to fool the ignorant ones. |

| this is an example of argumentum ad numerum, the appeal to numbers fallacy, suggesting that because more people are supporting a belief means that it's true, which of course is BS which is why it's one of the many fallacies, silly muslims, grow up and realize ur holy book is packed with errors and contradictions and violence. |
