He's dead according to the news. It happened an hour ago. Theo van Gogh was (with Hirshi Ali) one of the foremost criticasters of Islam in the Netherlands. He wrote many columns about Mahomet and Islam.
He's dead now.
That's number two after Pim Fortuyn.
The religion of peace is showing it's true colours. |

He was riding his bike when someone ran up to him, shot him and stuck a knife into his body with a letter.
Dammit.
I was going to SEE Theo tonight in Amsterdam. |

I gona make a translation
The moviemaker Theo van Gogh is murderd this morning in Amsterdam. His productioncompany said he had been shot death, de Amsterdam television channel AT5 reported he had been stabbed.
The murderer is susposed to have fled trough Oosterpark, but a cop shot him in the leg on the Mauritskade. By that incident probaly also a motorcop has been hit.
Oosterpark has been sealed. The ME (riotpolice) en the technical recherche are present. Moviemaker and presentator The van Gogh (47) has been treated at times because of his spoken opions about the islam

Just heard on the news that the murder had most likely an islamic appearance. Also heard a witnes say it was a reasonlby old man with a cap or headcovering.

Dear diotima64,
You are correct. The man who assassinated Fortuyn, Volkert van der Graaf, was a leftwing extremist and an animal rights activist. He was not a Muslim. Van der Graaf did claim he shot Fortuyn in order to protect ethnic minorities.
I am very much shocked by this news. A few years ago the Netherlands was one of the last places where one would expect such assassinations to take place.

Theo was shot with seven bullets when he tried to get away on his bike.
After that the killer stood over the body for some time and then stuck a knife through his heart with a note attached. According to some witnesses the message was in Arabic. |
