Please can you tell me why I cannot use quote button to enclose text that I highlighted.

This just happened today and it was fine before. I am using proxy server, could that be the cause?

What happens when you do click the Quote button after highlighting text?

Nothing. None of the features work, the bold, underline, code etc...

I need to reply to a few people and this is frustrating.

That's strange. If you do click any of the features without highlighting text, do you still not see any tags? Have you disabled BBCode? Have you tried adding the [quote][/quote] tags manually?

I have disabled BBCode in this post and have pressed the feature buttons one by one, but nothing!

And I try adding the quote manually like you stated by nothing works.

Hello Khadija You may not have BBCode enabled in your profile. Please follow these steps to make sure:

1. Click on the Profile link at the top of the page

2. Scroll down in your profile until you see the option Always Allow BBCode. Make sure it is checked as Yes

3. Click "Submit" at the bottom of this page to save your changes.

4. When you go to post a Message, make sure the Disable BBCode in this post is NOT checked.

If this is the problem, then it should now be fixed and you will be able to use the features such as [quote] etc...

Thanks

Oh right, so your BBCode was enabled.

The quote tags, and all other features, should work if you re-enable BBCode and type them in manually. I'm not sure why your buttons aren't working, though. If nothing's coming up when you're pressing them, it might just be a temporary problem - if you don't get any successful advice, just try after you're next start-up. Until then, just enable BBCode and enter them all manually (I usually do it manually anyway).

Untick the box in that post in an edit and see what happens.

Sanitarium, thanks for your efforts in your reply. I appreciate it.

I checked my profile and BBCode was on, but I pressed off then on again to make sure.

Regarding posting a reply, then how do I make sure that it's not checked? Do you mean there is no tick in the BBCode box at the bottom? At the moment BBCode is on.

Still none of the features work. This is very confusing, even my smilies have stopped working. Could it be virus attack, but that shouldn't effect the forum software?!

Sorry that I could not be of more assisitance Khadija! I have never heard of this problem before (BBCode ON but still not working!) Is it something with the proxy you are using? Have you used this proxy before?

I do not see how it could be caused by a virus; my bet is on the proxy you are using but don't [quote] me on it

Make sure that the [b]Disable BBCode in this message[/b] box is NOT checked. If it is checked then your tags will appear as tags and not features; ie. [b]Bold text[/b] instead of actually bolding the text.

Dear Khadija

I noticed yesterday a similar problem - the "edit" button disappeared from a post I had made.

I find this occasionally happens to me. I use Internet Explorer on a Mac computer. Generally, when this happens, I have to log out and log back in again.

It happens only occasionally.

Actually I take that back, they work manually. It's just i can't do it by highlighting and then enclosing by the quote feature.

This is unfortunate, but I will have to do it this way from now on.

Sanitarium,

I was on another proxy server yesterday and the M's banned me, I couldn't log on today, so I sent them a message to faithfreedom2atgmaildotcom, so I am hoping they will unban me. As you can see I am not a spammer so I should be allowed to use that proxy IP.

Khadija! I am so glad its working for you now!

Regarding the Proxy's, the IP address that was assigned to you (for that proxy session) was most likely banned. It is not a reflection on you; but that IP address must have been used by spammer's in the past, and that is why it was banned.

It is not a matter of 'letting you use that IP'; if it is unbanned, then anyone (including spammers) are free to use it as well. Just log out of the proxy site and then log back in. As I understand it you would be assigned (by the proxy site) with another IP address to use, which may not be banned here at FFI.

Your account is not banned, obviously hehe, so again its nothing personal against you.

Anyway, again I'm glad to hear its working now.

hehehe. Actually once you get used to it, you will find that typing the tags is much faster than highlight and tag.
