Humanity owes its freedom to its heroes. A hero is an ordinary person who does extraordinary things, which affects the lives of others in a positive way. We must recognize our heroes and acknowledge their bravery and courage.

Today, Mankind is facing, perhaps one of the biggest threats to its peace. There is a great danger looming over our heads that could destroy millions of lives. This danger comes from an ideology of hate that is mindlessly and uncritically believed by a billion people to be the only true religion. They believe that anyone who does not share their irrational views is hated by God and consequently should be hated by them too. The proponents of this ideology of hate are menacing mankind with terror. Many of them are ignorant of the inhumanity of their cult. They would leave it if they come to see the truth. However, left on their own, they see sheer evil as divine. They cherish in the pains of others and yearn for the blood of the innocent people whom they don’t know.

The challenge is to awaken this big mass of humanity and bring them back to their senses. This is like trying to transform wolves into sheep, or zombies into living sentient people. Those who strive to this end are true heroes. These ordinary individuals are doing something extraordinary. They strive to end violence with non-violence and through education. They try hard to bring out the humanity of the followers of this cult of hate and rescue them from their insanity. These individuals have risen above their own limitations, have defied death, and have confronted the most dangerous doctrine of hate and stupidity, a doctrine that does not tolerate dissent and the only way it knows how to deal with criticism is through assassination and killing. These individuals are heroes because on their success depends the peace of the world. If they fail humanity will fail.

Faith Freedom International wants to recognize these heroes and thank them for their bravery. Therefore starting from this year, we would like to ask everyone to participate in our poll and vote for the hero or the heroine of the year. The candidates have been suggested by the members of FFI forum and now we are asking you to vote for the one whom you think deserves most to be honored for this title. You can also campaign for your candidate by asking your friends to vote too.

Oriana Fallaci was one of the most fearless and courageous defenders Western civilization had in these latter days. She fought against fascism in her early youth to see again the rise of that evil ideology sixty years later, in the guise of a religion. While suffering from cancer and in pain, she rose again to sound the alarms and wake up the sleeping West to the threat that Islam poses.

Wafa Sultan is a courageous Syrian American who valiantly appeared in Al Jazeera television in a televised debate with a Muslim cleric and said The trouble with Islam is deeply rooted in its teachings. Islam is not only a religion. Islam (is) also a political ideology that preaches violence and applies its agenda by force.

Nonie Darwish is the outspoken daughter of a "shahid" (martyr). Her father fought against Israel and was killed as the result. When she grew up she realized the root cause of the conflict in the Middle East is the Islamic hatred of the Jews. She has founded the site Arabs for Israel and claims that only through respect and support for Israel , the Arabs can have peace, not though jihad and acts of terrorism.

Melanie Phillips, a journalist and writer and regular columnist at the London ’s Daily Mail. She recently published her book Londonstan, in which she argues that Britain and Europe are facing a civilizational test and they are in danger of failing.

Pope Benedict Made history by linking Islam to violence and in a speech Pope called on the West to affirm the faith in God built on reason. Then he said: “It is to this great logos, to this breadth of reason, that we invite our partners in the dialogue of cultures.” Muslims, as usual rioted, burned churches and killed innocent people. Pope never retracted his words, although he expressed regret that Muslims had behaved in such a barbarous way.

Robert Redeker a French writer and philosophy teacher who on September 19, 2006, a few days before the Islamic month of Ramadan, wrote an opinion piece for Le Figaro, where he attacked Islam and Muhammad, writing: "Pitiless war leader, pillager, butcher of Jews and polygamous, this is how Mohammed is revealed by the Koran." He called the Qur'an "a book of incredible violence", adding: "Jesus is a master of love, Muhammad a master of hate." Afterwards, Redeker received various death threats and he is currently in hiding receiving police protection.

Ayaan Hirsi Ali is a valiant Somali woman who became a Dutch Member of Parliament fighting for the freedom of Muslim. She was opposed vehemently both by Muslims and by the leftists and finally was forced to leave for America . Ms. Ali made a film about the state of Muslim women with the Dutch film maker Theo Vague, which resulted in the assassination of Van Gogh by a Muslim

Ghada Jamshir is a Bahraini Women's Rights Activist. She is a Muslim reformer and an ardent campaigner against the child molestation and perversion with infants which goes on in some gulf states . She heads a women's committee lobbying for a law that would shift jurisdiction over family and women's affairs from Islamic Sharia court to civil courts.

Anwar Shaikh was one of the great minds of the 20th century, whose grim discoveries about Islam shook the world,. In 1947, during the partition of India , as a young Muslim zealot, Anwar sheikh killed two Sikhs and one Hindu. He regretted those killings after he realized that his act of insanity was motivated by Islam and denounced this cult of hate. He reverted to Hinduism and wrote many books exposing the fallacies of Islam. He passed away on November 25, 2006.

Jyllands-Posten is a Danish newspaper that published a series of cartoons of Muhammad to in September 2005 in an attempt to contribute to the debate regarding criticism of Islam and in protest to the self-censorship that the western media had imposed on itself. This sparked wide spread protests by Muslims worldwide which unmasked the real intolerant and violent nature of Muslims. While up to that moment, many people thought the Islamic violence is reserved to a few disenfranchised extremists, these riots showed that violence is the nature of Islam and turned the world public opinion against this cult.

Actually I had Darabi in too. However this poll does not take more than 9 choices. I had tough time deciding whom to drop. I may not have done the right choice but hey we can remember her the next year.

You can drop Oriana Fallacci and Anwar Sheikh. They are both dead.WHat's the point recognising their efforts posthumously? Part of the reason we give the award is to encourage the recipient to do more. Its about motivating them to keep on doing what they have been doing, and to give them a pat on the back for doing it.

I believe the award should only go to a living person. You can include Parvin and Robert Spencer instead.

I hope you will consider my suggestion.

I sort of agree with Taqqiya Tactician on this. I agree, conditional upon the creation of a third award for "lifetime achievement", which can be awarded to people who passed away a long time ago, like Al Ma'ari, or recently like Oriana Fallaci, or are still alive, but are in their senior years and have been standing against Islam for most of their lives (e.g. Ibn Warraq).

Please?

You are wrong TT. We must honor our heroes even if they are dead, or perhaps more so. This is what makes us humans, humans.

Ali,

Is Hero of the year based on their accomplishments for the year 2006 or is it based on their entire lifetime achievement? And if lifetime achievement should it include people from other centuries?

Salaam,

I think it is not practical to vote for people of other centuries. So let us vote only for those who lived in 2006. Maybe we should have done the hero of the millenium in the year 1999. If you plan to live until 2100, you can nominate anyone who lived in this century.

Dear Ali Sina,

I strongly disagree with including the Pope among the candidates for the Hero of the Year. It’s true he never apologized in words, but he did pray the Islamic way at the Blue Mosque, even going as far as facing Mecca while praying.

I call this dhimmitude.

I know he’s been under extreme pressure, but appeasing Muslims this way will just strengthen them. They now believe more than ever that riots, terrorism, and killing nuns behind their backs work.

What about Taslima Nasrin? Maybe she can also be included next year.

I will refrain from voting in this poll until after the results of the 7 day poll I started about Lifetime Achievement Award are decided and the directors of FaithFreedom.org have responded to the results.

If there is a Lifetime Achievement Award set up, that would make a difference as to whether or not I would vote for Ms. Fallacci in this Hero of the Year award. Personally I think Wafa Sultan did more this year to break through the consciousnesses of the masses about the problems we face, but I have a tremendous amount of respect for the late Oriana Fallaci and wish to honour her. Bearing this in mind, I think it becomes clear why I am an advocate of FaithFreedom.org having an annual Lifetime Achievement Award starting this year.

Please click here to have a look at the Lifetime Achievement Poll.

We could honour dead heros in Lifetime Achievement awards. If we institute this third award, then we could include Oriana Fallaci and Anwar Sheikh in it, and at the same time add Parvin and Robert Spencer to the Hero of the Year nominees.

Please support the idea of a Lifetime Achievement award here:

As much as I think Wafa Sultan deserves my vote, I gave it to Jyllands-Posten because of the worldwide reaction and despite that, they did not succumb nor did they apologise. Respect!

Plus, their cartoons were pretty damn funny!

Pity this brave woman was over looked.

UK News
News Headlines

A nun was convicted of religious harassment after ranting against 'terrorist' Muslims in the middle of London's busy Oxford Street.

Sister Ruth Augustus, 66, was fined £200 after she shouted at two women in full robes and veils "you're probably terrorists, get back to your own country".

Later she told cops who arrested her they should go back to Iraq and have their heads chopped off.

City of Westminster Magistrates Court heard how trouble flared when Augustus, a missionary who has worked with prostitutes in the developing world, was handing out prayer leaflets outside Debenhams department store on Easter Tuesday.

When people of Muslim appearance passed she called out "Jesus loves Muslims," but two ladies in traditional dress took offence.

Fellow leafleter, Tony Rollins, told the court: "The ladies answered back and told her shut her stupid mouth.

"Sister Ruth said to them 'you're probably terrorists, get back to your own country'. They gave her a long, hard stare before walking away.

"I was cringing at what she said. It made me feel very uneasy."

WPC Natasha Walker said she heard a 'commotion' outside the shop and went to investigate.

The officer said: "I heard someone shouting 'terrorists, terrorists' more than once. It's busy on Oxford Street, so she must have been shouting really loud.

"I turned round and noticed there were a group of people standing outside Debenhams. Sister Augustus was shouting 'terrorists' repeatedly and other things about Muslims.

"I asked her to stop, but she refused. She said 'I will not stop, I'm a nun'.

"Because she refused to stop I arrested her. She said 'You're not arresting me, I'm a nun. It's a waste of tax payers' money. You're arresting me because you're a Muslim.'"

WPC Walker called for for colleagues to help bundle the 'agitated and aggressive' into the back of the police van.

WPC Keeley Pemberton said when she arrived she heard Augustus shouting at PC Walker "Take your dirty hands off me, you're a Muslim."

After a night in police cells Augustus was bailed to return to Marylebone Police Station in June, but when her solicitor didn't show, she launched into another tirade, it was said.

She called the two officers morons, referred to one as 'WPC Muslim Walker', and shouted in the public waiting area "This is a Muslim country full of terrorists," the court heard.

WPC Pemberton said Augustus became increasingly 'agitated and abusive'.

She said: "I asked her to be quiet and she shouted 'Go back to Iraq' and was pointing at WPC Walker. She said it very aggressively.

"Then she looked at me and said 'You should go with her and both of you will get your heads chopped off'."

WPC Walker said: "She said to me 'you should go back to Iraq where you belong, where all the terrorists are. You are likely to be beheaded. You deserve it'."

When she was arrested again she ranted at officers "You're all morons, especially that Muslim - she's a chimpanzee and she needs to go back to the zoo with the other chimpanzees," WPC Pemberton said.

Augustus, who represented herself after sacking her lawyer early in the proceedings, was frequently told to be quiet as she heckled the witnesses.

While giving evidence, she insisted on wearing a large placard with a picture of Jesus on it round her neck.

She claimed she had in fact suggested to the officers that they should stop wasting time on her and instead go out and catch paedophiles and rapists, or go out to Iraq to help our troops fight terrorists.

Augustus accused police of "religious bigotry and hatred" and claimed she was handled roughly, locked in a cell when she was ill, and strip-searched in the street.

She said: "I was responding to extreme provocation. The police were abusing me and were acting in a most satanic, brutal and unprofessional manner. I felt entitled to call them chimpanzees because that is how they were behaving."

The reference to beheading she said was in reference to the catholic missionary Margaret Hassan, who was kidnapped and murdered by insurgents.

Augustus, of Kensington, was found guilty of two charges of religiously aggravated harassment.

District Judge Emma Arbuthnot told her: "I have no doubt at all that Sister Augustus's behaviour amounted to religiously aggravated harassment.

"This was extremely upsetting and rude behaviour which harassed and alarmed not just the officers but others who were around at the time.

"It is clear from her behaviour today that she was an extremely difficult defendant to deal with. The officers I'm sure dealt with her as best they could and cannot be criticised."

She was fined a total of £200 plus £40 court costs. The judge told the pensioner: "By rights you should pay compensation but I'm not going to make you as you are not in a position to pay any more."

Augustus replied: "It's a disgrace. If this is British justice, I'm going back to Africa. They are more civilised there." She vowed to appeal against her conviction in the highest court
