Politically Incorrect Guide to MORE LOOSERS

LOOSER Reem al-Riyashi was the first Palestinian mother to commit murder-suicide for Allah. She left behind a 3-year-old and a 1-year-old.

LOOSER Wafa Idris

The Martyrdom of Wafa Idris
by Dr. William Pierce (nazi)

Two weeks ago, on January 27, another of these Palestinian "terrorists" carried out a suicide bombing in Jerusalem, killing one Israeli and wounding 100 others. The bomber was Wafa Idris, a 27-year-old Palestinian woman who lived in Ramallah and worked as a volunteer nurse, riding in ambulances and providing emergency care in field hospitals for Palestinians wounded by Israeli soldiers. Wafa was no wild-eyed Muslim fundamentalist or fanatical Palestinian nationalist. She was not involved in politics and was not even considered to be a Muslim by her friends and family. She didn't even wear the traditional head covering for Palestinian women. She was described by everyone who knew her as a friendly, open, caring, and fun-loving young woman. She used her spare time to give free lessons in language and mathematics to children in the Ramallah refugee camp. She simply had had enough of seeing her people humiliated and brutalized and murdered by Jews. She had had enough Palestinian children die in her arms after they were shot by Israeli soldiers. She had taken care of enough Palestinian children who had lost an eye or a leg at the hands of the Israelis.
She herself had been shot at repeatedly by Israeli soldiers while she was on ambulance duty and was wearing her Red Crescent uniform, and on three occasions she had been wounded by rubber bullets. Israelis consider shooting at Palestinian medical personnel to be a sport. On January 27 Wafa had had enough and decided to hit back.

Arab Red Crescent ambulances that wait to pick up the injured often serve a secondary role, a role that is illegal under international law. They have been photographed as they transport gunmen, Molotov cocktails, and rocks to confrontation locations, secure in the knowledge that Israel will not fire on these "medical vehicles." Such use is a clear violation of one of the fundamental precepts of humanitarian law and places at risk the immunity generally granted to medical services. When Israel's IDF or police are forced to act against one of these disguised military vehicles, the usual "world opinion" reaction is to condemn firing on an ambulance, giving misguided license to the Palestinian Arabs to continue the practice.
An example of the problem is this excerpt, from an IDF action report on July 13, 2001:
During the exchange of fire, IDF forces identified two Red Crescent ambulances that arrived at the spot. Two armed gunmen emerged from the ambulance and proceeded to also open fire toward the IDF and Border Police forces.

A reexamination of body parts brought to the Abu Kabir forensic institute brought the death toll in the Jerusalem suicide bombing to 11. In addition, over 50 people were wounded, 13 of them seriously, in a suicide bombing of an Egged bus no. 19 shortly before 9:00 AM at the corner of Gaza and Arlozorov streets in Jerusalem.

Suicide bombing at the Sbarro pizzeria in Jerusalem

A Palestinian suicide bomber blew himself up inside the Sbarro pizzeria in the center of Jerusalem yesterday afternoon, killing 15 people, including six children, and wounding more than 130 others. Five members of one family were killed. It was the deadliest attack in the city since the intifada began last September.
Carrying the explosives in a bag strapped to his body, the bomber entered the restaurant at the corner of Jaffa Road and King George Avenue, one of the busiest intersections in the capital, just before 2 p.m. and detonated his device.
The 5 kg.-10 kg. bomb, which was packed with nails, screws, and bolts, completely gutted the restaurant, which was full of lunchtime diners.

Jerusalem Café Moment

11 people were killed and 54 injured, 10 of them seriously, when a suicide bomber exploded at 22:30 PM Saturday night in a crowded cafe at the corner of Aza and Ben-Maimon streets in the Rehavia neighborhood in the center of Jerusalem. Hamas claimed responsibility for the attack.
The bomber walked into the cafe, located at the corner of Aza and Ben-Maimon streets about 100 meters from the prime minister's residence, and detonated a powerful explosive charge that completely gutted the restaurant.

Mothers Express Joy at son’s Death for Allah

The mother of Samir Fuda, murderer of 3 Israelis, described her joy upon hearing of his death. She then recounted that he aspired to Shahada, because "72 Dark-eyed Maidens of Paradise are waiting for me". The promise of great rewards for the Shahid (Martyr for Allah) is often a motivating factor driving terrorists. [PA TV July 11, 2004; Apr 25, 2004; Mar. 1, 2004 ]

Politically Incorrect Guide to SIMMERING TENSIONS

One of the fiercest religiously motivated political rivalries existing today is between Hindus and Moslems. Many think it began when the Indian Hindu nationalist movement of the early 1900s refused to represent the interests of Indian Muslims. It’s true that this widened a rift until, as independence from the British Empire drew near, it was impossible for them to share a single nation. Muslims had a justifiable fear of being ruled by the more numerous Hindus. Yet partition of British colonial India into the free nations of India and Pakistan did not solve the problem; Hindus and Muslims are still at loggerheads -- .

Bloodshed in India is centuries old. The initial rift in India relations was created during the Islamic invasion in the 600s. "...the Islamic conquest of India is probably the bloodiest story in history.” The Koran justifies the fanatical violence by Muslim's with, "Slay the infidels, wherever ye find them and prepare them for all kind of ambush"; and "Choose not thy friends among the infidels till they forsake their homes and the way of idolatry. If they return to paganism then take them whenever you find them and kill them." Obviously, if there is no god but Allah, then polytheistic Hinduism cannot be peacefully unified with such an aggressive and intolerant religion

The exact number of people killed during the invasions will never be known. Estimates are based upon the Muslim chronicles and demographic calculations. K.S. Lal estimated in his book The Growth of Muslim Population in India that between the years 1000 CE and 1500 CE the population of Hindus decreased by eighty million.

Today
80.5 % of the people are Hindu,
13.4 % of the people are Muslim
1,80% of the people areChristian,
1.84 % of the people areSikhs
0.76 % of the people are Buddhist

Muslims form nearly 16 percent of India's 1 billion people, and simmering tensions with the majority Hindus often spill over into rioting,

I wonder why this could be ?
As can be seen throughtIsalmic history since Mohammed smashed all the pagan idol,(including a stone Dove, today a symbol of peace) in the Kabah on his conquest of Mecca. This distruction of Holy places continues even today,as witnessed by churches being burnt in australia.
In India is a holy site much like Al-Aqusa in Jerusalem, where moslems built a mosque on a holy site of another religion.

Ayodhya today is a small, rustic city with ancient Hindu architecture predominating, and with some Mughal influence. Its population is mostly Hindu with a smattering of Muslims, Jains and Buddhists. However, its history and heritage hold an unequivocal importance for over Hindus in India and across the world.
Ayodhya was one of the most ancient, largest and most magnificent of Indian cities, and was the capital of the Hindu kingdom of Kosala the court of the great king Dasaratha, the 56th monarch of the Solar line in descent from Raja Manu.

The opening chapters of the Ramayana, a religious epic of the Classical Hindu period, recount the magnificence of the city, the glories of the monarch and the virtues, wealth and loyalty of his people. Dasaratha was the father of Rama Chandra, more commonly known as Lord Rama, the Seventh Avatara of the Vishnu, the Supreme Almighty; personification of Dharma. Many Hindus believe the birthplace of Rama to be in Ayodhya at the place called Ram Janmabhoomi, the site of the desolate Babri mosque. According to the Ramayana, Ayodhya was ruled by the House of Ikshvaku, who was the son of Manu.

With the Islamic invasions of India from the 9th century A.D., Ayodhya was the victim of pillage and sacking. Hindu temples were looted and destroyed, and mosques were constructed in their place. With Muslim rulers established around the city, it lost its strategic and economic importance to Lucknow and Kanpur.

Babri mosque

Shaid Khan is aknowledged as the photographer.

The Babri Mosque (also Babri Masjid بابری مسجد) was a mosque constructed by order of the first Mugal emperor of India, Babur, in Ayodhya in the 16th century. Before the 1940s, the Mosque was called Masjid-i Janmasthan ("mosque of the birthplace"). The mosque stood on the Ramkot ("Rama's fort") hill (also called Janamsthan ("birthplace").

It was alleged that Babur destroyed an existing temple at the site, which Hindus believe was the temple built to commemorate the birthplace of Rama, an incarnation of Vishnu and ruler of Ayodhya. The Babri Mosque was one of the largest Mosques in Uttar Pradesh, a province of India with some thirteen million Muslims. Although there were several older Mosques in the city of Ayodhya, with a substantial Muslim population, including the Hazrat Bal Mosque constructed by the Shariqi kings, the Babri Mosque became the largest.

Babar'

Ram Janmabhumi is sacred to the Hindus because they hold it to be the birthplace of Rama, who embodies for them the ideals of truth, heroism, chivalry and every other virtue. What is the justification for the mosque by Babar beyond the fact that he had the power to erect it as a mark of conquest and of humiliation of the Hindus? . One can understand that many Muslims hold the tomb of Moinuddeen Chisti in Ajmer to be sacred because he is venerated as a Sufi saint. No such justification exists for the Babri Masjid, for it was not intended as a place of worship. To understand temple destructions by Babar and his descendants - and the building of mosques in their place - we must recognize that it was part of their ideology. Here is how one of his descendants, a granddaughter of Aurangazeb, described why mosques should be built at the site of demolished temples:"... keeping the triumph of Islam in view, devout Muslim rulers should keep all idolaters in subjection to Islam, brook no laxity in realization of Jizyah, grant no exceptions to Hindu Rajahs from dancing in attendance on 'Id days and waiting on foot outside mosques till end of prayer ... and 'keep in constant use for Friday and congregational prayer the mosques built up after demolishing the temples of the idolatrous Hindus situated at Mathura, Banaras and Avadh ..."

Spoken like a true child of Aurangazeb! But this allows us to answer the question raised earlier about Babar's right to destroy the temple and build his mosque: Babar's ideology - as described by his descendent - gave him that right. It is an ideology that sees everything outside the pale of Islam as an object of derision to be humiliated and destroyed. This does not mean that everyone - especially the victims - should accept it as legitimate. Accepting the legitimacy of the Babri Masjid at Ram Janmabumi means acknowledging the superiority of Babar's ideology over that of the overwhelming majority of the people of India, and his right to impose it on others by force. This is imperialism pure and simple.

National symbols

. Every living nation has national symbols and Ayodhya is India's. Would we let stand a mosque built by someone like Osama bin Laden after demolishing Mount Vernon (George Washington's home) or the Statue of Liberty. Similarly, the Westminster Abbey in London is more than a Church, for it is inseparably bound with English history and tradition. This is how the people of India also look at Ram Janmabhumi: it is a sacred spot for Hindus for historical, cultural and nationalistic reasons - and not just because it is a place of worship. Many like me who never go to a temple or church still hold it sacred for cultural and historical reasons. To highlight this point: can the terrorist warlord Osama bin Laden claim the ideological right to demolish the Venkateshwara Temple in Tirupati or the Golden Temple in Amritsar and build something else in their place to mark the triumph of his 'faith'?Or George Bush to demolish Mecca.. These, like Ram Janmabhumi, the Westminster Abbey, and the Statue of Liberty, are not pieces of real estate that can be bartered - or forcibly occupied and demolished.

So here is the plain truth: Ram Janmabhumi is a national symbol, while the Babri Masjid is a symbol of Babar's imperialism.

It was destroyed in a riot by hostile Hindu activists on December 6, 1992.

Anger in Gujarat

In 1969, nearly 2,500 people were killed there in the region's worst violence between Hindus and Muslims since the subcontinent was split into India and Pakistan in 1947. A series of communal riots rocked the city in the 1980s and again in 1992 following the demolition of the Babri mosque by Hindu activists in the north Indian town of Ayodhya. There followed a decade of relative peace, barring a few months of sporadic anti-Christian violence in the state's tribal areas three years ago.
Rapid economic growth in the 1960s and 1970s turned Gujarat into one of India's richest and industrially developed provinces. The mushrooming of industry, especially textile mills, meant that there was a large influx of people from other Indian states, People who were never really brought up in the Gandhian tradition When recession in the 1980s forced the closure of many of the mills, some 50,000 people lost their jobs. Frustration and unemployment turned many to crime and Gujarat now has a thriving underworld, second only to and closely linked with the underworld in Bombay,. But the fact that one of the state's most powerful underworld dons in the 1980s was a Muslim raised religious tensions.Huge sums of money have been made smuggling arms, contraband and silver from Pakistan to Bombay via Gujarat.
Much of that money has found its way into the hands of religious extremists,Crime gangs also quite openly take sides in communal riots, making the violence that much more bloody and vicious.

Nearly 2,000 people, mostly Muslims, were killed in the Gujarat riots which were sparked by the burning to death of 59 Hindu activists in a train coach off Godhra railway station, allegedly by a Muslim mob.
‘Hundreds of girls and women were dragged out of their homes, stripped naked before their own families and thousands of attackers, who taunted, insulted and threatened them, ‘They were then raped, often gang-raped, beaten with sticks, Hindu tridents and swords, had their breasts cut off and their wombs slashed open and rods violently pushed into their vaginas. Finally the women victims were mutilated or burned to death.’
Between 250 and 300 girls and women were among the dead. Amnesty said local police and state investigators had either failed to investigate cases or deliberately closed them citing a lack of evidence.
Kausar Bano, who was nine months pregnant during the riots and allegedly had her ‘womb cut open with a sword, the foetus (was) ripped out, killed and thrown into a fire before she herself was burned to death’.
The Hindu nationalist government of Gujarat, which continues in power, has come under severe criticism by human rights groups for its alleged role in aiding and abetting the riots apart from failing to control them.
‘During the attacks, police stood by or even joined in the violence. When victims tried to file complaints, police often did not record them properly and failed to carry out investigations,

And it is this below that sparked this incident in one of a thousand conflicts world-wide where muslims are involved

These are some of the photos that will explain you why there was such a reaction after Godhra....

WARNING: BEFORE YOU SCROLL DOWN.

Gruesome Pictures

Wednesday sentenced 11 people to life imprisonment

VADODARA: A fast-track court in Godhra on Wednesday sentenced 11 people to life imprisonment for killing 11 members of a minority community in Anjanwa village of Panchmahals district during the post-Godhra riots. But 18 other accused were acquitted for lack of evidence.
Fast-track court judge R D Thackar sentenced prime accused Dalpa Baria and 10 others Kalu Soma, Kalu Sana, Bana Fata, Raising Fula, Dhana Rupa, Salam Aba, Balvant Jeeva, Natwar Kalu, Ratna Kalu and Rupa Soma for life.
Three others Raising Punja, Bharat Punja and Dhana Rupa were sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment. The court examined 80 witnesses before delivering the verdict.

So once again moslems are the biggest victims,of crimes committed by Moslems

365 days, 80 arrests, Pota...probe goes on

http://www.ahmedabad.com/news/2k3/feb/27days.htm

Three hundred and sixty five days, three sleuths spearheading the investigation, countless raids, 80 arrests and one mission — to unearth the alleged conspiracy to kill passengers of Ahmedabad bound Sabarmati Express on February 27, 2002.
With the recent arrest of Godhra cleric Maulana Hussain Umarji, considered a major breakthrough, the Special Investigation Team is more than determined to get to the bottom of the conspiracy. "It was not a spontaneous reaction to the harassment of a tea vendor but a well planned conspiracy with involvement and backing of the underworld mafias — directly or indirectly. The amount of money involved in the crime is mind boggling and more skeletons are expected to tumble out of the closet in the forthcoming days," said an official.

Protests over Gujarat arrest

http://newswww.bbc.net.uk/2/hi/south_asia/2734001.stm

Shops in the town of Godhra in India's Gujarat state have closed in protest at the arrest of a Muslim in connection with a deadly train attack.
Maulana Hussain Umarji, a cleric, is suspected of planning the alleged arson attack, which took place in Godhra last February.

Setting things straight

Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam and

I vow that my body be like crystal, pure and flawless

12 Vows of Medicine Buddha

1. I vow that my body shall shine as beams of brilliant light on this infinite and boundless world, showering on all beings, getting rid of their ignorance and worries with my teachings. May all beings be like me, with a perfect status and character, upright mind and soul, and finally attaining enlightenment like the Buddha.

2. I vow that my body be like crystal, pure and flawless, radiating rays of splendid light to every corner, brightening up and enlightening all beings with wisdom. With the blessings of compassion, may all beings strengthen their spiritual power and physical energy, so that they could fulfil their dreams in the right track.

3. I vow that I shall grant by means of boundless wisdom, all beings with the inexhaustible things that they require, and relieving them from all pains and guilt resulting from materialistic desires. Although clothing, food, accommodation and transport are essentials, it should be utilised wisely as well. Besides self-consumption, the remaining should be generously shared with the community so that all could live harmoniously together.

4. I vow to lead those who have gone astray back to the path of righteousness. Let them be corrected and returned to the Buddha way for enlightenment.

5. I vow that I shall enable all sentient beings to observe precepts for spiritual purity and moral conduct. Should there be any relapse or violation, they shall be guided for repentance. Provided they truly regret their wrong-doings, and vow for a change with constant prayers and strong faith in the Buddha, they could receive the rays of forgiveness, recover their lost moral and purity.

6. I vow that all beings who are physically disabled or sick in all aspects be blessed with good health, both physically and mentally. All who pays homage to Buddha faithfully will be blessed.

7. I vow to relieve all pain and poverty of the very sick and poor. The sick be cured, the helpless be helped, the poor be assisted.

8. I vow to help women who are undergoing sufferings and tortures and seeking for transformation into men. By hearing my name, paying homage and praying, their wishes would be granted and ultimately attain Buddhahood.

9. I vow to free all beings from evil thoughts and its control. I shall lead them onto the path of light through inculcating them with righteousness and honour so that they will walk the Buddha way.

10. I vow to save prisoners who have genuinely repented and victims of natural disasters. Those who are sincere will be blessed by my supreme powers and be freed from sufferings.

11. I vow to save those who suffer from starvation and those who committed crime to obtain food. If they hear my name and faithfully cherish it, I shall lead them to the advantages of Dharma and favour them with best food and eventually lead a tranquil and happy life.

12. I vow to save those who suffer from poverty, tormented by mosquitoes and wasps day and night. If they come across my name, cherish it with sincerity and practise dharma to strengthen their merits, they will be able to achieve their wishes.

Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism originated as offshoots of Hinduism. Their founders were neither crucified nor exiled. The ancient history of India attests to the symbiotic existence of multiple religions in that subcontinent. Religious tolerance had been the norm in India for thousands of years.

UNTIL

Slaughter of the 'shaven headed Brahmans'

The Musalman invaders sacked the Buddhist Universities of Nalanda, Vikramshila, Jagaddala, Odantapuri to name only a few. They raised to the ground Buddhist monasteries with which the country was studded. The monks fled away in thousands to Nepal, Tibet and other places outside India. A very large number were killed outright by the Muslim commanders. ,

Great quantities of plunder were obtained, and the slaughter of the 'shaven headed Brahmans', that is to say the Buddhist monks, was so thoroughly completed, that when the victor sought for someone capable of explaining the contents of the books in the libraries of the monasteries, not a living man could be found who was able to read them. 'It was discovered,' we are told, 'that the whole of that fortress and city was a college, and in the Hindi tongue they call a college Bihar.' "Such was the slaughter of the Buddhist priesthood perpetrated by the Islamic invaders. The axe was struck at the very root. For by killing the Buddhist priesthood, Islam killed Buddhism. This was the greatest disaster that befell the religion of the Buddha in India...."

But today the fashion is to ascribe the extinction of Buddhism to the persecution of Buddhists by Hindus, to the destruction of their temples by the Hindus.
There can be no doubt that the fall of Buddhism in India was due to the invasions of the Musalmans. Islam came out as the enemy of the 'But'. The word 'But' as everybody knows, is the Arabic word and means an idol. Thus the origin of the word indicates that in the Moslem mind idol worship had come to be identified with the Religion of the Buddha. To the Muslims, they were one and the same thing. The mission to break the idols thus became the mission to destroy Buddhism. Islam destroyed Buddhism not only in India but whatever it went. Before Islam came into being Buddhism was the religion of Bactria, Parthia, Afghanistan, Gandhar, and Chinese Turkestan, as it was of the whole of Asia

For example, in the Indian media you regularly come across the contention that “the Hindus destroyed Nalanda Buddhist university”. This is a plain lie: under several Hindu dynasties, Nalanda flourished and was the biggest university in the world for centuries; it was destroyed by the Muslim invader Bakhtiar Khilji in 1200. But if you repeat a lie often enough, it gains currency, and not many Indians have come to believe that Buddhism had been replaced by Hinduism as India’s chief religion in a most violent manner.

Did You Know?

Takshasila: World's first University

The World's first university was established in Takshila in 700 BC. More than 10,500 students from all over the world studied more than 60 subjects. Taxila, stood on the banks of the river Vitasa in the northwest of the Indian subcontinent. The campus accommodated 10,500 students and offered over sixty different courses in various fields, such as science, mathematics, medicine, politics, warfare, astrology, astronomy, music, religion, and philosophy. The minimum age for admission was 16 years and students from as far as Babylonia, Greece, Syria, Arabia, and China came to study at the university.
Panini, the great Sanskrit grammarian, Charaka, the author of famous treatise on medicine, and Chanakya, writer of Artha Shastra -- these august names are associated with Taxila. Promising minds from far flung regions converged there to study the Vedas and all branches of secular knowledge.
Takshasila or Taxila, as the Greeks called it over 2,000 years ago, was at one of the entrances to the splendor that was India. Its antiquity is rooted both in epic texts like the Ramayana, Mahabharata and the other Puranas.....Taxila was destroyed by White Huns in 499 A.D

University of Nalanda

The University of Nalanda built in the 4th century BCE was one of the greatest achievements of ancient India in the field of education. Buddha visited Nalanda several times during his lifetime. The Chinese scholar and traveler Hiuen Tsang stayed here in the 7th century, and has left an elaborate description of the excellence, and purity of monastic life practized here. About 2,000 teachers and 10,000 students from all over the Buddhist world, lived and studied in this international university. In this first residential international university of the world, 2,000 teachers and 10,000 students from all over the Buddhist world lived and studied here. The Gupta kings patronized these monasteries, built in old Kushan architectural style, in a row of cells around a courtyard. Ashoka and Harshavardhana were some of its most celebrated patrons who built temples and monasteries here. Recent excavations have unearthed elaborate structures here. Hiuen Tsang had left ecstatic accounts of both the ambiance and architecture of this unique university of ancient times.
Nalanda, Vikramshila, Odantapura, and Jagddala as the universities destroyed by Mohammed Bakhtiar Khilji around 1200 A.D.

These universities were sacked, plundered, looted by the Islamic onslaught.
The Moghuls neglected practical and secular learning, especially the sciences. Throughout their long rule, no institutions was established comparable to modern university, although early India had world-famous centers of learning such as Taxila, Nalanda and Kanchi. Neither the nobles nor the mullas were stirred into learning...

The mountain range in Eastern Afghanistan where the native Hindus were slaughtered, is still called the Hindu Kush (Persian: "Hindu Slaughter"). It is significant that one of the very few place-names on earth that reminds us not of the victory of the winners but rather of the slaughter of the losers, concerns a genocide of Hindus by the Muslims.

The Hindu Kush is a mountain system of Central Asia, extending 400 miles southwest from the Pamir Knot. These mountains roughly form the boundary between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

This we can look at in my next rant

There is further proof of Buddhism in the region

Long before the Arabs came here with their new religion of Islam, Buddhist monks lived in Central Asia, the conduit through which Buddhism traveled from India to the East. The giant Buddha statues at Bamian in Afghanistan lay on the same road.
They have been destroyed, but a wonderful sleeping Buddha, 16m long, still lies peacefully in Tajikistan.

And near Kampyr-Tepe, we were invited to the site of a Buddhist lamasery, where the mendicant monks lived underground in a labyrinth, to protect them from the terrible heat and cold of the plain.
One could almost feel their soft steps in their sunken corridors and imagine them rinsing their begged rice at the stone bowl that still stands in their kitchen.

They left no gardens, no orchards, no grand palaces.

What they left was something simpler.

"They left some very special papers," said our guide excitedly. "We found them in sealed jars."

"What did they say?" I asked.

"Oh they said that we too lived here."

Politically Incorrect Guide to POPPY NO-GOOD

Qur’an 8:59 “The infidels should not think that they can get away from us. Prepare against them whatever arms and weaponry you can muster so that you may terrorize them. They are your enemy and Allah’s enemy.”

Almost 90 percent of the world's opium comes from the fields of the Hindu Kush region the world's largest producer of opium; cultivation of opium poppy reached unprecedented level of 206,700 hectares in 2004; counterdrug efforts largely unsuccessful; potential opium production of 4,950 metric tons; potential heroin production of 582 metric tons if all opium was processed; source of hashish; many narcotics-processing labs throughout the country; drug trade source of instability and some antigovernment groups profit from the trade; 80-90% of the heroin consumed in Europe comes from Afghan opium; vulnerable to narcotics money laundering through informal financial networks

According to one tradition, opium poppies sprung from the tears
of Aphrodite when she mourned for her beloved Adonis.

"O poppy-buds, that in the golden air
Wave heavy hanging censers of delight,
Give me an anodyne for my despair;
O crimson poppy-blooms, O golden blight,
O careless drunken heavy poppy-flowers,
Make that the day for me be as the night.
Give me to lie down in your drowsy bowers,
That having breathed of your rich perfume,
My soul may have all-rest through all the hours;
So shall I lie within my little room.
While the poor tyrants of the world go by,
Restfully shrouded in your velvet gloom,
Beneath the wide face of the cloudless sky."

Osama bin Laden a 'narco-terrorist'
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
By Rowan Scarborough

The al Qaeda terror group has embraced heroin trafficking to such an extent that its leader, Osama bin Laden, is now a "narco-terrorist," says a U.S. congressman just back from a fact-finding mission in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
"It seems clear to me heroin is the No. 1 financial asset of Osama bin Laden," Rep. Mark Steven Kirk, Illinois Republican, told The Washington Times. "There is a need to update our view of how terrorism is financed.
"And the view of Osama bin Laden relying on Wahhabi donations from abroad is outdated. And the view of him as one of the world's largest heroin dealers is the more accurate, up-to-date view."
Mr. Kirk wants a pronounced shift in how the Bush administration tries to stop al Qaeda funding. Up to now, Washington has focused on bin Laden's traditional sources: Islamic charities and his family fortune.
But the Bush team has choked off much of that flow, forcing bin Laden to adjust. In Afghanistan, bin Laden has the benefit of the world's largest poppy crop, as he evades capture in Pakistan's notorious border areas. He is reaping $24 million alone from one narcotics network in Kandahar, Afghanistan, according to Mr. Kirk's investigation.
The congressman said it is no longer sufficient to go after only the charities and bank accounts. Washington now must fuse counterterrorism and counternarcotics into an inseparable mission.
"The most important thing here is to change the language to not describe Osama bin Laden anymore as a terrorist, but to more accurately describe him as a narco-terrorist," said Mr. Kirk, who sits on the Appropriations subcommittee on commerce, justice, state and judiciary.
Mr. Kirk and his team of House staff investigators spent five days in Pakistan and Afghanistan, whose farm areas once again are sprouting thousands of acres of poppies from which opium and heroin are produced. Hundreds of illicit drug labs have sprung up to process the heroin for shipment to Pakistan.
The al Qaeda-heroin connection is becoming more clear to Washington. The first big break came last month, when Navy ships seized boats concealing large stashes of heroin and operated by crew members linked to al Qaeda. In Afghanistan, Mr. Kirk talked to a variety of sources, including U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agents, U.S. troops and Afghan counternarcotics officials.
A kilogram of heroin that can fetch $2,000 in Pakistan can get $10,000 in Turkey. That is why al Qaeda has begun sending drug-laden boats into the Arabian Sea: to find more lucrative markets outside Pakistan.
"If he can expand his operation closer and closer to the retail market, he will dramatically increase his profit," Mr. Kirk said.
Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld is reluctant to get his troops too deeply involved in the drug wars, aides say. Some Pentagon officials view counternarcotics as predominately a law enforcement duty. In Afghanistan, where the United Nations reports 264,000 poppy-growing families, the U.S. military does not want to alienate citizens whose support it needs for the U.S.-backed government of Hamid Karzai.

Opium trade is halal in Islam:

Friday, January 21, 2005 BARA: Mufti Munir Shakir, a renowned religious scholar, has declared the trade of opium “halal,” legitimate, in the light of Islamic teachings during his routine sermon on an unlicensed FM radio station operating in Bara tehsil of Khyber Agency the other day. The Mufti is a popular religious scholar in Khyber Agency and adjacent areas of Afghanistan where a large number of people very regularly listen to his sermons on the FM radio station set up in Malakdin Khel area of Bara for the last six months. Poppy cultivation has increased several times in the tribal belt over last four years. Not only have the governments of Pakistan and Afghanistan banned the business and cultivation of opium but almost all religious scholars in both the countries have declared the trade and cultivation of poppy prohibited in Islam.
Answering a question, Munir Shakir declared the cultivation and trade of opium legitimate on the grounds that it was mostly used in about 98 percent medication. He said the use of anything that had the potential of having a positive impact and benifit on human beings could not be declared illegitimate and prohibited in Islam.

Among the remedies which it has pleased Almighty God
to give to man to relieve his sufferings, none is
so universal and so efficacious as opium."

"One must not think life with the mind, but with opium"

The Lure of Opium Wealth Is a Potent Force in Afghanistan Western

Afghanistan. Like a frustrated hunter, the head of the local anti-drug squad keeps snapshots of the ones who got away.
One photo shows a prisoner wearing a flat, round pakol hat, standing in front of 10 pounds of opium packaged in plastic bags laid out on a table. Lt. Nyamatullah Nyamat took the picture on the February day he arrested the suspect. Hours later, the man was freed.
The stocky, plain-spoken cop glumly tossed another photo onto a desk in his basement office as if playing a losing hand of cards. In this one, a man in a white pillbox cap is handcuffed to a police officer and standing next to 62 pounds of opium. A local judge sentenced him to 10 years in prison. A higher court ordered his release.
One of Nyamat's biggest catches, arrested with 114 pounds of heroin, a derivative of opium, hadn't even appeared in court when the local prosecutor let him go in late March.
Nyamat said that was normal in Kunduz, a hub on one of the world's busiest drug-smuggling routes.
Three and a half years after the United States led an invasion of Afghanistan to oust the Taliban regime, the United Nations and the U.S. government warn that the country is in danger of becoming a narco-state controlled by traffickers. The State Department recently called the Afghan drug trade "an enormous threat to world stability." The United Nations estimates that Afghanistan produces 87% of the world's opium.
For decades, poor farmers trying to make a living in Afghanistan's mountain valleys have harvested the opium poppies that feed the world's drug pipeline. Now the trade is booming, partly the result of the U.S. strategy for overthrowing the Taliban and stabilizing the country after two decades of war.
U.S. troops forged alliances with warlords, who provided ground forces in the battle against the Taliban. Some of those allies are suspected of being among Afghanistan's biggest drug traffickers, controlling networks that include producers, criminal gangs and even members of the counter-narcotics police force. They are willing to make deals with remnants of the Taliban if the price is right.
The U.S.-backed Afghan president, Hamid Karzai, has brought some of those warlords into his popularly elected government, a recognition of their political clout and a calculated risk that keeping them close might make it easier to control them.
"Drug money is absolutely supporting terrorist groups," said Alexandre Schmidt, deputy head of the U.N. Office on Drugs and Crime in Afghanistan. And regardless of their allegiance, Schmidt said, most suspects are released within 48 hours because of intervention by higher authorities.

Vice creeps back to Kandahar

Ellen Knickmeyer, Associated Press

In this city whose storied excesses gave rise to Mullah Mohammed Omar and his puritanical Taliban, the old vices of the past are making a spirited comeback.
Gambling, opium smoking and - in male-dominated Pashtun society, paedophilia - have all re-emerged as strict Taliban rule has disappeared.
"Kandahari card trick!" a merchant exclaims on a night of card-playing - one of many well-known addictions of Kandahar's people, and one of many banned by the one-eyed Omar during the Taliban's five-year rule.
Slapping down cards, the merchant comes to the point after several minutes of patter, saving the queens but tossing all the one-eyed jacks and kings out of the deck.
"No more Mullah Omars!" the merchant cries. "Ha! Kandahari revenge!"
To western eyes, Kandahar looks like no den of iniquity, just an overgrown version of any market town outside Kabul, the capital. Women bustle about on errands only under cover of silky full-length cloaks; there are no bars, or even teahouses, no movie theatres where men and women might mingle.
But to Central Asians, Afghanistan's second-largest city is Babylon with burqas, Sodom and Gomorrah with sand. Security forces now are closing opium stalls and seeing to it that the racier selections in newly reopened video stores are kept under the counters.
In a society where to flirt with women is to flirt with death at the hands of their angry male relatives, men turn elsewhere - sometimes to young boys. Even though such acts are banned in the Islamic religion, paedophilia has been a practice in Pashtun society.
The Taliban tried to stamp it out, but with the stern militiamen gone from power, Kandaharis say the practice is coming back.
In pre-Taliban times, the battling warlords who laid waste to this city also were known to argue over boys who caught their eyes.
Local legend has it that Mullah Omar was first called from his mosque to settle one such feud, in 1994 - stepping in between two militia commanders and winning the return of a young abductee, although accounts differ as to whether it was a boy or girl.
Citizens were so grateful, residents say, that the episode started the Muslim cleric on his rise to power.
"I was beautiful. I never left home for a year and a half - I was that afraid," says Farid, a trader's son, recalling his ordeal nine years ago aged 11, when an Afghan commander took a liking to him from afar.
Farid went into hiding, then into exile with an uncle in Pakistan.
"That's why I grew a beard, and that's why I was happy the Taliban came, at first."
Some Kandaharis claim that was the origin of the Taliban edict ordering men to grow beards. The Taliban wanted to separate the boys from the men, to keep youngsters out of the army.
A Kandahari saying: He who does not smoke opium is a pumpkin-head.
"It's a vice, but a small vice," says trader Amenullah, excusing himself for taking a crammed mouthful of Afghani nicotine-charged green snuff, while keeping an eye out for customers for the raw opium on offer at his stall.
"Opium has come back a little - hashish, too, too much," one Kandahari says.
Opium planting, banned under the Taliban, has surged. A local official, in fact, alleged that many of the thousands of southern Afghans planning a religious pilgrimage to Mecca this month paid for it out of opium profits.
Afghan authorities, under pressure from western governments, are shutting down the opium stalls and promise to destroy the poppy crops in the spring. Kandahar's people say they are happy the Taliban are gone, and hopeful that order is here to stay after long years of war.
Kandahar's security forces promise to keep it that way.
"After 20 years, people are tired of it all," said Ahmad, a Kandahar commander. "Opium is banned now, hashish is banned. Don't worry. Everything will be banned."

"Opium is banned now, hashish is banned. Don't worry. Everything will be banned."

Today, growing poppies is less about survival — as it was during a drought in this country — than about upward mobility. It is about a new consumer class and an even larger class of aspirants to it.

"Those who had a donkey have a motorbike," said Ahmed Shah, a young farmer in Badakshan. "Those who had a motorbike have a car. Those who have one wife want a second one."

"I am engulfed, and drown deliciously
Soft music like a perfume, and sweet light
Golden with audible colours exquisite,
Swathe me with cerements for eternity.
Times is no more. I pause and yet I flee.
A million ages wrap me round with night.
I drain a milion ages of delight.
I hold the future in my memory.

Also, I have this garret which I rent,
This bed of straw, and this that was a chair,
This worn-out body like a tattered tent,
This crust, of which the rats have eaten part,
This pipe of opium; rage, remorse, despair;
This soul at pawn and this delirious heart."

"...save our people from the clutches of this hydra-headed monster which stalks abroad through the civilized world, wrecking lives and happy homes, filling our jails and lunatic asylums, and taking from these unfortunates, the precious promise of eternal life..."

For many Afghans, poppy has allowed for piety. A United Nations report on Afghanistan's opium economy noted that 85 percent of opium traders surveyed had performed the hajj, the pilgrimage to Mecca that is incumbent on every Muslim but too costly for most Afghans.
