Oh, M made it an announcement. Thanks M, but could you make it rather a sticky? And I'll change the title to "help for apostates/musilmahs in various countries".

Add guys!

P.S. I forgot to mention: the crisis line is free of charge.

Quote:
Karma Nirvana (registered charity no. 1089477) is an Asian men and women's project.

Karma Nirvana’s staff and most of its 18 volunteers are survivors of forced marriage and 'honour'-based violence. Project founder and director Jasvinder Sanghera wants the voices of victims “to be heard” and to “shape policy”.

An astute campaigner and powerful speaker, she has forged links with the police, Crown Prosecution Service, local authorities, judges and magistrates. Sanghera is working on a PhD on honour violence and her memoir Shame was published in 2007.

Jasvinder ran away from home at 15 after being shown a photograph of a man she had never met and told he was to be her husband. Her sister Robina committed suicide at 24 by setting herself on fire, rather than leave a violent relationship.

Karma Nirvana young persons’ project worker Shazia Qayum was forced into marriage and, aged 17, was escorted from her marital home at 3am by the police after phoning them to help her escape.

EVERY COUNTRY MUST OPEN SUCH HELP LINES AS THIS ONE ALL OVER THE WORLD..

Domestic Violence.. Phone nos. Addresses

Mahmud, born in Morocco, brought up in Netherlands wrote this in the forum http://www.faithfreedom.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6520

My father was a very strict man. He still beats my mum and says it’s the only way to educate women. I asked him why he was doing it and tried to calm him down but it was useless. He told that Allah allowed this because women are deficient in intelligent and religion. He thought that by beating he actually was saving my mum from Hell.

My sisters and mother didn’t leave home at all and because of this they were pale and had problems with lungs (our home was really dusty). My father sometimes took them for a walk (just like dogs) but everyone stared at us (11 women in black and a man in white) and father stopped doing it. ....

My eldest sister is now married to a Muslim man. ..... And he is a very strict man just like my father. .. She always cries and says she wants to die because this life is like a prolonged suffering. And it’s not the Middle East, it’s actually Amsterdam. She’s 25 and she already has 5 children. ...
The rest of my sisters are still unmarried. My father is very sick and tired and he can’t find husbands for them (and it’s his responsibility). They can’t choose husbands themselves because it’s forbidden. I think it should be my responsibility since I’m the closest male relative but father says I don’t know good men. Is my sister’s husband a good man?

I can’t look at my mum without tears. She has 11 children. ....

There are millions of families with different cultural backgrounds and different ethnicities living in west., They are basically good people but confused, confused by culture and confused by differences in social structure they grew up to what is there in open minded west.. Many men need education and Psychiatric help.. Women with out doubt need help from local authorities .. Financial, Institutional and live safely for some time until they can stand on their own feet. With that in mind, I am opening a new thread, Hoping friends different part of the world post/ add .. Phone nos. Addressees etc.. from different cities of the little planet where Women reeling under Domestic Violence could call get some local help. So let us start with Angelika’s response

The House of Ruth Maryland is one of the nation's leading domestic violence centers, helping thousands of battered women and their children find the safety and security that so many of us take for granted.

Our History and Services

The House Of Ruth Maryland was founded in May of 1977 by a coalition of women's organizations, religious groups, service providers, and elected officials to provide a safe haven for victims of domestic violence and their children. In November of 1977 we opened Baltimore's first crisis shelter for these victims in a row house on North Calvert Street. Today the House Of Ruth Maryland is recognized as one of the nation's most comprehensive domestic violence center and has a staff of more than ninety. Our voluntary leadership consists of a thirty member Board of Directors and an Advisory Committee. Specific services include:

An 84 bed emergency shelter and 6 apartment transitional housing that includes:
Esther’s Place – designed to help battered women achieve economic security and includes an 8 week life skills and computer training program, career assessment, job development and job placement.
A holistic health and wellness program
On-site health clinic staffed by the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing
DV Education classes and Support Group Counseling
Addictions and Housing Specialist Counseling
A comprehensive Children’s Program (including childcare and therapy)
The Marjorie Cook Foundation Domestic Violence Legal Clinic - the largest domestic violence legal clinic in the United States with six (6) offices throughout Maryland. Currently 17 attorneys are on the clinic's staff with additional pro bono attorneys and paralegals.
Individual and group therapy for victims and their children in several locations throughout Baltimore

• To protect and provide a safe haven for women and their children and to meet their immediate survival needs.
• To help battered women and their children escape battering situations permanently
• To prevent domestic violence from occurring and to facilitate rapid and effective intervention when it does.
• To change society's attitudes so domestic violence is not tolerated.
