I have noticed that there are people posting their leaving message in the "Comments on the mainite and forum". Perhaps if there is a section for leavers, they can put their holiday or good bye messages there.

Do you folks think this is a good idea or simply not worth it?

I think if people are going to stop posting and leave then they should do so without any formal announcements. Too many have left in a huff, and then sheepishly returned some time later. Others made such a fuss when they left that they can't come back without shaming themselves. So, they just log in and read the posts, but never make any posts themselves. These are the "ghosts" of FFI.

If someone feels they want to leave, then they should just stop posting. If they come back, then there's no embarassment. If they don't - C'est la vie!

Well. Yeah....
But some make it a point to put it in the Comments on the Main Site and forums and it always looks so dramatic in there. I was hoping this idea will mitigate the problem of unwanted there with a place of its own.

But if you so wish, you folks know the trend better...thanks for the reply DT.

I was doing that, then i realised that people were worried about me, so rather than send out loads of pm's I made a thread.

I have loudly, not sheepishly, come back.

Yes, Sahara, but you didn't really leave in a huff - more of a moment of frustration and anguish. We all go through that at some point. This forum can do that to a person.

BTW, Welcome back!

Oh Yes. It has.
I am on the verge of quitting or taking a long holiday myself.
Anyway, wont bother you with off topic issues. Sorry.

Dont want to open another thread for this one question.
Is there anyway the login and profile can be deleted?
I am not an addict but if I dont want any credentials and profile left behind as residue, is there a provision to completely erasing all such profile and login information?

Thanks again

I'm not sure exactly what you're asking.

You can change any aspects of your profile yourself. The only thing that is tricky is the email address. If you change the email address in your profile then the forum software will deactivate your account and send a new activation email to the new email address you enter. If you enter a bogus email address, then you'll never get the activation email and never be able to reactivate your account. Perhaps this is what you want - but be careful! If you just choose a random email address and it ends up being someone else's valid email address, then they will be able to reactivate your account and retrieve your password. They will then be able to log in as you. A better approach would be to create an anonymous email account (yahoo, gmail, hotmail, etc.), and then change the email address on your forum account to the anonymous email account. Don't EVER let the anonymous email account expire due to inactivity, though - someone else will be able to reuse the email address, and you'll have the same problem. Keep the anonymous account for registering in forums, or other internet activities.

I'm not sure what you mean by "login" information. If you mean the posts which you have made, then you have the ability to edit them yourself, but we very strongly discourage this. It messes up the threads in which you've posted, and makes it looks like members are conversing with themselves.

If you mean the access records for the forum, which include things like your IP address, then the answer is no. The forum admins don't have the ability to delete this information using the forum software. Even if it was deleted from the database, the information would still be in the server logs. Even if all of these could be edited (which is nearly impossible), the information would still be contained in the archive of weekly server backups. If it's any consolation, the admins jealously guard this information. Security of our members is our top priority.

What i had in mind was that since I had to create this account to get into the forums and this account comes with a login name and password and then the profile information. Suppose i want to have it enirely deleted like there is no account called prayanika, like there wasnt one before i registered. Like undoing my registration entirely.

But its alright DT, thank you very much for your help. I will have to take a long break. May be I might come back after a year or so or may be not. I will let this account stay. But will not be visiting or participating in FFI frequently but very rarely.

But i have been directing friends(to build their awareness) and also strangers to the website and the forums essentially challenging strangers to prove themselves here as right by winning debates. That, i will continue to do so.

Thanks again.

It's bad luck to talk about the ghosts, or they might become poltergeists!

I understand now. Yes, your account could be deleted. But then all of your posts would say "Guest" instead of "Praynika". The forum admins did this a few times and decided they didn't like the way it make the threads look. One time (I think it was in the Holiday forum) there was a thread where it appeared that "Guest" was arguing with himself, after two member accounts had been deleted!

Ok. Enjoy your time away. Rest assured that there is no penalty for becoming an apostate of FFI. You will be welcomed if you decide to return, and remembered if you do not.

Or makes it look like members are conversing with ghosts!
