I am one of these so-called 'Anglo-Saxons'. You may be surprised to know that I agree with you, up to a point. And I do not consider myself 'left wing'. After seeing the 'Left' whitewash Communism and Islam, I have little respect for them.
First consider the age of colonialism. Christianity was indeed used as justification for what was little more than plunder. Non-Christians were 'savages' who had to be civilized and Christianized. This sounds like Islam, but with one big difference. Jesus did not believe in such things. That came later, when the Roman Empire took Christianity under its wing.
As for the Vietnam War, this was more complex. The U.S.A. was genuinely frightened by the huge success of Communism in Russia and China. That was a lot of people! But it does seem quite clear now that the 'domino theory' was bogus. Still, I can't quite believe that 'liberals' like Kennedy and Johnson really wanted to kill Vietnamese for the fun of it. I see it as a tragic mistake based on deep misunderstanding and the politician's natural refusal to admit error. Also, Communism IS a really bad thing, but by intervening we inflamed nationalistic and anti-colonial feeling, which doomed our prospects. We foolishly expected the Vietnamese to think like us, just as we now expect the Iraqis to do.
As for TODAY, I think the the huge threat of nuclear weapons (and other WMD) in the hands of terrorists is so great that we DO have to do something forceful about it. I'm not sure what. I'm ambivalent about the war in Iraq. Somehow, I do feel that the Islamic world is in such a sorry state that it needs some 'surgery', for the good of us all, but this sounds a lot like colonialism, doesn't it? It's a really tough situation.
By the way, I also think Mother Teresa was a fraud, based on the writings of Christopher Hitchens, which seemed persuasive to me. She was really after conversions and spent more money on that than on proper medical care for the poor. And giving 'charity' with strings attached is highly obnoxious and hypocritical. There was something in the prestigious medical journal the Lancet about the poor condition of her clinics. Yet Hindus are so naive and good-hearted that they make a 'saint' out of her. You are right that many of the more conservative Christians have an almost fanatical zeal to convert people. But most Westerners are no longer like that, except in the USA, where maybe 20-50% are like that!  |

I too wish India's territorial integrity to be preserved, so that it can defend itself from the wolves surrounding it. The last 1000 years of invasion must never be repeated. I say this not based on personal ties to Indians but because of my admiration of Indian religions and philosophies, which are the most enlightened, at least at the educated level. (I am not so familiar with popular Hinduism, so I have no opinion there.)
The tolerance of Hinduism is perhaps too real. I have the hardest time getting the Hindus I know to criticize Islam as a whole. For them, terrorists are always bad individuals.
But I will say this. The damned terrorists started it in Gujarat with setting the train on fire. Yet revenge against innocents cannot be allowed, if that is what happened. So I am disturbed by allegations that the Gujarat government stood back and let it happen. I don't know if this is true, since I distrust much of the press. It is the evangelists based on Anglo-Saxon power houses that are trying to destroy India's integrity. They have done irreparable damages already.
Hindu mind is all crooked. They will rather get elimnated rather than stand upto the threat that comes from the Muslims and Christians.
Hindus have no sense of History. Hindu mind is a very private mind. It has no sense of belonging to a community. Hindusn have paid heavy price for that attitude. We can only hope that Hindus will come out of that destructive thought process.
I will repeat once again that in terms of religion, meaning one's relationship with god, gods, and goddesses, there has never been a better system than the Hindu way of thinkg.

so what if the body (globe) has a malignant tumor (islam), wouldn't the surgeon remove it?
for mother teresa, i think she was great person. gandhi too was a great person but also had thousands of critix. and so bad it was that he was assasinated by one of the hindu fanatix, or the critix.

Please read the book "Final Verdict" by Chatterjee. That will tell you more about Mother Teresa. She was a crook of the first order in line with many other Christian crooks.

They soon realized that they had to join hands with the Abglo-Saxons if they wanted to have any say in the world affairs. They are fervently doing that now. So my definition of Anglo-Saxons include all Western Europeans although they were originally Northern Europeans. Both the Latins and the Anglo-saxons were respopnsible for instituting the modern institution of colonianism. They might have learned the techniques from the Greeks and the Romans. I am not trying to absolve the non-Europeans of their follies in controlling their National lives. They just were not upto the trickeries of the Anglo-Saxons supported by their fire power.
I do not know how closely you know the rural whites of America and Canada. To them all nonwhite, non-Europeans are just "~" in the most derogatory sense you can imagine even today. It is not in the sense that I use the term to describe Muslims.
There is no solution to the problem that I have alluded to in near future. Because the non-whites of the world are very underdeveloped. Japan has gotten out of the mess. Chinese are trying get out of the mess. Rest of the world are just ~ to the Anglo-Saxons. I am not crying. Such is life. I just hope Anglo-Saxons will be put in their proper place under the sun as soon as possible. |

I want to know how an Indian can put down America’s racial relations to blacks when they have “untouchables”? I grew up with black kids in rural Kentucky. I played basketball, baseball and went to college with them. We got drunk together. Kanad how many untouchables have you played sports and got drunk with? Canuck, how many Afro-Americans have invited you to be in their weddings? I have been the best man in several, of course all American Anglo really hate blacks, but the blacks keep asking us to participate in the most private and special day in their lives. (Blacks are so easy to deceive.) I have an Afro-American in my family so I want to know how mixed are your ancestry and just how racist my family is? I know that Canuck was basically defending American race relations but it was in a very condescending manner.
So all I ask out of you is to “Walk the Walk if you Talk the Talk”.
I now know just how bad America is, so I simply request one thing out of each of you. Please tell me your countries contributions to the WORLD has been compared to evil America’s. This exercise is to find our just how great your contribution has been versus those damned Anglo Saxons in America (although Anglo are only about 40% - you forget we took the people you did not want and made them genius’). Remember the bar is quite high:

Harry Truman without a College education became president and saved Europe and Japan through the Marshall Plan).

Invented the integrated circuit.
Invented the computer.
Invented the Internet. Invented the light bulb.
Invented the television.
Invented the telephone.
Invented mass-produced steel.
Invented oil-drilling technology.

See that was my whole point. Many US born people cant take any criticism of their country. That Pilgrim and Ang got so mad when I criticized christianity. Well I cant give any one free pass here. Read my posts, I criticized castes, practice of untouchabilty. Yes there was such a thing as WASP power structure in the past. Did I say that all white are racists? ? Just we were discussing world politics , colonializm, neo colonializm, blind attitude about communism etc.What made you so angry? You are born there and you know lot about your culture but we uppity sometime express different opiniion, nothing to get blood pressure high.Tme after time I run into this attitude. Can you not discuss any issue pertaning to your society without injecting superiority nationalistic complex.? Well no one gets worked up when we screw Islam day in and day out. Be good sport.
I did live in rural Oklahoma. There are all kind of people, same about Canada. My point was things changed lot in last 25 years.
In april I attended a marriage of my Indian friends daughter to Afro-American in Jackson Mississippi. All kind of people in that marriage. No need to make generlizations about people. |

I do not have trouble grasping things correctly, but I do get many messages confused.
One of my old saying is "often wrong, but never in doubt."
Is a dock worker bad? In the US they are highly paid folks making over $100,000 a year.
