Pro-India parties win majority in Kashmir elections
Before the elections, violent protests were conducted by anti-Indian groups, fearful state elections would firm up Indian control of the area, and by Indian nationalists, fearful that separatist groups would gain control.
Separatist leaders had called for boycotting the elections, but many ignored that call.

This election process has not only surprised the Separatists but also shocked them. The high voter turnout has shredded to bits their call to boycott the elections. And with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) peddling soft separatism through its self-rule document and the NC calling for autonomy plus, their agenda stands hijacked as well. |

| Just A curiosity... Have there been any election ever in the 'Azad Kashmir'? It is supposed to be 'free' by the Muslim claim. Any help here, please? |
