Muslims fired on dispute over Prayer time

Muslim leader says 150 workers fired at Neb. plant

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - A Somali-American leader says 150 Muslims have lost their jobs at a Grand Island, Neb., meatpacking plant that has been embroiled in a prayer dispute.

Mohamed Rage (RAYZH) with the Omaha Somali-American Community Organization says 80 workers were thrown out after an altercation late Thursday. He says when they tried to return for their shift Friday, they were fired, along with 70 others.

Union president Dan Hoppes describes what happened differently. He says 60 to 80 people quit Thursday, although he didn't know what happened Friday.

Officials with JBS Swift and Co. didn't return repeated phone messages Friday from The Associated Press.

The Muslim workers have been asking to be allowed to pray at sunset.

What? Are there no stupid and ignorant MAM to tell Muslims when a Muslim travels outside of Islamic land and wanders into land where Allah has no dominion over they can consolidate their prayer into one prayer at the end of the day.

Wouldn't the company contracts the muslims signed already stipulated the working hours and breaks?

Fire them for breaking the contract with their demands. What's the fuss?

While I'm sure these Muslims will try to fight this in courts. As long as the employer can prove that these prayer demands would totally ruin the business, ie: other employees having to work different shifts, etc, it should stick.

The indigenous culture should be dominant and where there is conflict the alien culture or religion should give way. The indigenous culture overrides any alien culture or religion. If the prayer time is so important to muslims, they should go to an Islamic country. I do not regard their prayer times as having any importance at all, as in a true spiritual religion the time of prayer is irrelevant. This prayer time nonsense is just a control mechanism, nothing else.

Pray five times a day. Take Friday off, as this is their Sunday.

Saturday and Sunday are the rest day , most of the stock exchanges around the world are closed . Which means out of eight hour shift they would have to waste at least three hours in prayers. So they only work five hours per shift and four days per week. No wonder the Pakistan’s economy want down when they tried these pious acts.
