Slavery in Islam

I know slavery is not forbidden in Islam. I'm trying to find some passages in the Hadith and Qur'an that proves Mohamed was a slave owner and slave trader, as well as those passages that are demeaning to Africans. I've been doing some research and I think it is crucial that the points above be discussed more frequently. For many Blacks in America, Islam is seen as an alternative to Christianity. Many choose not to believe that Mohamed owned slaves and the main argument always comes down to how Mohammad freed Bilal. I'm still trying to make my self familiar with passages in the Qur'an that relate to this topic. If anyone can help me out that would be great. I'm really tiered of Islamic groups promoting Islam as some wonderful Black religion, and using propaganda and telling lies to obtain converts.

My main reason for interest in this specifically has to do with the fact that Slavery in Many Muslim countries still exist! I'm trying to get more Africans involved in the conflict in Sudan, as well as Mauritania, Chad, and Niger. But unfortunately many Muslim organizations in the US and overseas are spreading propaganda and lies about the conflict and trying to downplay the role that Islam plays in the conflict in Sudan, Chad, Mauritania, and Niger. Being that many of these organizations are funded by Arab business men and Saudi Arabia, they have completely ignored what's going on in Africa, since they are hooked on Arab money and funding.

In order to deprogram Africans from the 19 centuries ( over a 1000 years) of Islamic brainwashing and help Black Muslim converts to see the truth we must discuss slavery in Islam.

There are plenty of African Scholars and American Historians that have discussed the Arab slave trade, but it seems that many people are too afraid to call it what it is (the Islamic slave trade) and link it to Islam!

If there are already well thought out analysis's can someone provide me with a link.

Quranic & hadith quotes about slavery.

Ishaq:592 "The Apostle held a large number of captives. There were 6,000 women and children prisoners. He had captured so many sheep and camels they could not be counted."

Bukhari:V4B53N373 "Allah's Apostle got property and war prisoners and gave them to some people to the exclusion of others. The latter seemed to be displeased by that. The Prophet said, 'I give to some people, lest they should deviate from Islam or lose patience.'"

Tabari IX:38 "In this year, the Messenger sent Amr to collect the zakat tax from Jayfar and Amr, the clans of Julanda and Azd.... He collected the jizyah from the Zoroastrians."

Tabari IX:75 "He who holds fast to his religion, Judaism or Christianity, is not to be tempted from it. It is incumbent on them to pay the jizyah protection tax. For every adult, male or female, free or slave, one full denarius, or its value in al-ma'afir [fine cloth]. He who pays that to the Messenger has the protection of Allah and His Messenger, and he who holds back from it is the enemy of Allah and His Messenger."

Tabari VIII:38 "The Messenger divided the wealth, wives, and children of the Banu Qurayza Jews among the Muslims."

Tabari IX:28 "The Muslims were concerned. They did not want to give up their share. So Muhammad said, 'He who holds a share of these captives shall get six camels for every slave from the next booty we take.' So the Muslims returned the women and children captives."

Try: Chapter 58:3, Surah Al-Mujadilah or 33:50 - "Prophet, We have made lawful to you the wives to whom you have granted dowries and the slave girls whom God has given you as booty." 23:5 - "... except with their wives and slave girls, for these are lawful to them:..."

Hadith: Vol. 7-#137 Narrated Abu al-Khudri: "We got female captives in the war booty and we used to do coitus interruptus with them. So we asked Allah's messenger about it and he said, "Do you really do that?" repeating the question thrice, "There is no soul that is destined to exist but will come into existence, till the Day of Resurrection.""

Vol. 5-#459 [This Hadith is similar to the above. However, additional details are added]. Narrated Ibn Muhairiz: "I entered the mosque and saw Abu Khudri and sat beside him and asked him about coitus interruptus. Abu said, "We went out with Allah's messenger for the Ghazwa (attack upon) Banu Mustaliq and we received captives from among the Arab captives and we desired women and celibacy became hard on us and we loved to do coitus interruptus. So when we intended to do coitus interruptus we said "How can we do coitus interruptus without asking Allah's messenger while he is present among us?" We asked (him) about it and he said "It is better for you not to do so, for if any soul (till the Day of Resurrection) is predestined to exist, it will exist.""

Vol. 7-#734 "....At the door of the [Muhammad's] room there was a slave to whom I went and said, "Ask the permission for me to enter".....

Vol. 7-#344 Narrated Anas: "Allah's messenger went to the house of his slave tailor, and he was offered a dish of gourd of which he started eating. I have loved to eat gourd since I saw Allah's messenger eating it."

Vol. 5-#541 Narrated Abu Huraira: When we conquered Khaibar, we gained neither gold nor silver as booty, but we gained cows, camels, goods and gardens. Then we departed with Allah's apostle to the valley of Al-Qira, and at that time Allah's messenger had a slave called Midam who had been presented to him by one of Banu Ad-Dibbab. While the slave was dismounting the saddle of Allah's messenger an arrow the thrower of which was unknown, came and hit him.....

Vol. 5-#637 Narrated Buraida: The prophet sent Ali to Khalid to bring the Khumus ([one fifth] of the booty) and I hated Ali, and Ali had taken a bath (after a sexual act with a slave girl from the Khumus). I said to Khalid, "Don't you see this (i.e. Ali)?" When we reached the prophet I mentioned that to him. He said, "O Buraida! Do you hate Ali?" I said, "Yes" He said, "Do you hate him, for he deserves more than that from the Khumus."
