As an example I would like to quote this verse of the Quran
“Have We not made
the earth as a wide expanse,
and the mountains as pegs?”
[Al-Qur’an 78:6-7]
I am sure you would be aware that all mountains have very deep roots and that this fact was discovered not too long ago , how would you explain the presence of this verse in the Quran ? |
WOWWWW...how scientific !!! Can you tell me what are PEGS used for ??
A peg is used to support, fasten or hold in place....
Here it says that the earth is a wide expanse and the mountains hold it in place...
HOLD IT IN PLACE ?? EARTH A WIDE EXPANSE ?? WHAT SH*T !!!
The earth is round and not a wide expanse, secondly it rotates around its own axis and revolves around the sun, and even the land mass on earth moves continuously...heard of continental shifts ??? So what the hell are these PEGS for ?? |

The anology drawn here between pegs and mountains is actually pretty good , because a tent peg has most of it's portion below the surface whereas only a small portion is above , very similiar to mountains .

Wide expanse here doesnt imply that the earth is flat .. but that is a totally different debate ... |

yaaawwwnnn... it doesnt get any clearer than this, yet apologists like to twist and turn the interpretation of the Quranic verses.
The earth - wide expanse
Mountains - pegs to hold it in place
Scientific Blunder !! period !!

Mahmud,
You are in an exciting position -- the unknown. You have mentioned that you will try Christianity.
I will mention a few books that might be useful to you:
Unveiling Islam is by two former Muslims (Ergun Mehmet Caner and Emir Fethi Caner) who converted to evangelical Christianity.
On the home page of Ali Sina's site there is a book cover displayed of a book by another former Muslim who used to be a professor teaching in Egypt, and he converted to Christianity and moved to the West. His book might be very erudite and useful.
The Philosophy of Freedom and Christianity as Mystical Fact are both written by Rudolf Steiner, a man who argued that the incarnation of Christ was the pivot of earthly and human evolution. Steiner's understanding of Christianity is that in its essence it is connected very closely with the discovery, during the course of history, of inner freedom and individuality as aspects of human awareness.
I also have found helpful a book called Liberation, by Norberto Keppe. Keppe united Christ and Socrates' teachings together and developed a social and cultural movement on that basis.
But there is an incredible wealth of spiritual and philosophical books in the world, and new spiritual realities to be discovered in the future. The quest for truth may bring one closer to God in the end than adherence to any one doctrine. |
