President Obama appointee Dalia Mogahed “overwhelmingly” silent on FMU Freedom Pledge

By not signing the pledge of freedom issued by Former Muslims United that requires Muslim leaders to denounce the Sharia requirement to execute those who leave Islam, Dalia Mogahed has demonstrated that her allegiance is to the Sharia and not the the US Bill of Rights. This disqualifies her as an advisor to U.S. President on the White House Office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships.

President Obama appointee Dalia Mogahed “overwhelmingly” silent
on pledge to stop threats against former Muslims’ human rights
“Dalia Mogahed, a prominent American Muslim appointed by President Obama to the White House Advisory Council on Faith Based and Neighborhood Partnerships, does not honor freedom to choose one’s beliefs as guaranteed under our First Amendment. That is the only conclusion we can draw from the overwhelming ‘silence’ and non-response to a Freedom Pledge letter sent on October 20, 2009 to Ms. Mogahed by our organization”, according to author and human rights activist Nonie Darwish. She is executive director of Former Muslims United (FMU).
Dalia Mogahed is a Senior Analyst and Executive Director of the Gallup Center for Muslim Studies. She is coauthor of the book and film Who Speaks for Islam?: What a Billion Muslims Really Think with Dr.John L. Esposito, a Georgetown University colleague at the Prince Alaweed bin Talal Center for Muslim Christian Understanding. In April, 2009, President Obama appointed Ms. Mogahed to the White House Advisory Council.
Since joining the White House Advisory Council, Ms. Mogahed has engaged in outreach to Muslim Brotherhood front groups , identified as unindicted co-conspirators in the Dallas Federal Holy Land Foundation Trial, such as the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA), the Muslim American Society (MAS) and the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC). Leaders of the Holy Land Foundation were convicted on charges of funneling $12 million to Hamas, a Palestinian group designated as terrorists by the federal government.

Dr. M. Zhudi Jasser, of the American Forum for Islam and Democracy (AFID), one of only two signatories of the FMU Freedom Pledge contends in a report by The Investigative Project that Ms. Mogahed’s outreach to radical Muslim groups does not help.
The damage is immeasurable to Muslims seeking non-radical alternatives. They are going to say, why bother?’ The government has chosen sides in the conflict.
Ms. Mogahed and co-author Dr. Esposito, have been criticized for distorting Muslim world opinions about support of ‘justified terrorism’ regarding 9/11 using data from the Gallup Center for Muslim studies surveys.
Note this comment from The Investigative Project:
In Who Speaks for Islam? , Mogahed and Esposito claim that approximately 91 million people, or 7 percent of Muslims worldwide (the percentage who believe the 9/11 attacks were completely justified), can be referred to as “politically radicalized.”
Robert Satloff [ of the Washington Institute for Near East Policy] found that the percentage justifying 9/11 was closer to 36 percent, or more than 450 million people, a third of the world’s Muslim population.
The Pew Global Attitudes Project surveyed Muslims in the Palestinian territories and 15 countries . . . . According to the Pew survey, an average of 23.5 percent of Muslims supported suicide bombings in 2007.

FMU is a human and civil rights organization whose mission is to protect and defend those who have chosen to leave Islam and face threats to their lives and property under Fatwas or rulings from Muslim clerics and legal authorities both here in the United States and abroad.
Darwish said, “The objective of the letter sent by FMU was to request that Mogahed sign a pledge to honor the freedom of former Muslims to choose a personal belief other than Islam. Ms. Mogahed over the past nine months failed to sign the FMU Freedom pledge. We are dismayed. We call upon Ms. Mogahed, who considers herself a law abiding citizen of this country to reconsider her position and sign the Freedom Pledge”.
In the fall of 2009, FMU mailed copies of the Freedom Pledge asking Ms. Mogahed and other Muslim leaders to repudiate the Shariah aw consensus permitting execution of apostates from islam, to more than 111 Muslim American leaders of 50 organizations. Only twopledges were returned – one from Dr. M. Zhudi Jasser of the AFID and the other from Dr. Ali Ayami, executive director of the washington, DC-based Center for Human Rights and Democracy in Saudi Arabia. To date, FMU has sent over 163 Freedom Pledge Letters to Muslim leaders across America.

  2. Ms. Mogahed Perfect example of the two faced nature of muslims in positions of power.

By not signing the freedom pledge she is condoning the killing of muslim apostates.

  3. I'm not sure she is being "two faced" about this.

Given that she's refused to sign and thereby implied that Sharia Law is more important to her than US law, she is simp-ly being honest about her beliefs as an "Traditional Muslim" – one who believes in Koran, Ahadith, Sunnah and Sharia.

If she truly believes in the Sharia then yes, of course, she must agree with the killing of apostates and the oppression of all non-muslims.

Now, someone who puts foreign laws above those of her own Country may well be unsuitable to act as an advisor who is supposed, I presume, to help to smooth the way for and to Muslim integration, but at least she is honest about her beliefs and the supremacy of Sharia Law.

In someways I find her easier to respect than the usual Taqqiya spouting mouthpieces.

(Just what is the "Advisory Council on Faith Based and Neighborhood Partnerships" supposed to do, I can read the words and understand the words, but I'll be da**ed if I get the meaning of that title.)

This just leaves the question as to why (assuming he knew) Pres. Obama appointed her.

If he didn't know, it suggests a lack of rigour in the interview at least, if he did know it suggests something ratehr worse – but is that a surprise?

Now that everybody knows, I wonder if and how Pres. Obama will react.

  4. @jonmc

"I presume, to help to smooth the way for and to Muslim integration" hmmmmm, never heard of "good" muslims integrating into other cultures.

When I said two faced I mean how can Ms. Mogahed take a job with the government and yet her beliefs are in conflict and contrary to the american constitution. Simply I call this some kinda taquiya.

If we are all to subdue islam, muslims should be viewed with the greatest suspicion letting them know that Islam is not respected by the majority of non-muslims. Maybe this will encourage some them to question the validity of their religon.

  5. Islam is a box painted in golden, but when you open the box, it is only shit in it!

  6. Get that traitor out of the White House!

  7. What Obama says and means:

Wait is too soon, let we take over the whole continent first then we can "screw" 4 allll none muzzies!

A president of USA,just saying this one and not with sharp ton:

    EX-muslims humans rights?!!

He should be and take a sharp ton towards thoes morons, but ofcourse, everyone knows why you idiots chose him 4…pisslam take over USA!

  8. Muslims justifying and support terrorism….

    YOU ALL MUST KIDDING!!

Ofcourse they do,if they wont support terrorism and encourage the terrorism, then they show a damn

    BIG finger to their muhamad!

They will "BAD MUZLIMZ" and NOT a good one!

They believe muhammad was their prophet and allah send him,so they do EXACTLY what that psychopath MUha;MAD,did!

    Terrorists!

hamas,al-shabaab,al-quida and MULLAHASSHOLES and that psycho ahmaghi nejad!

  9. The attitude of this lady and the decitful way by which Sharia is entering the US is a cause of concern. The US,despite the thousand shortcomings, still has the law of the land that keeps things on an even keel. The other democracies with huge Muslim populations have erred by dancing to the tunes of Ummah. India is the worst, followed by the UK.

What can be more apalling than a 60 year old Muslim woman (Shah Bano) getting thrown out of her home by her husband (after the triple talaq),her approaching the Indian courts for justice, the Indian Muslim Personal lawboard intervening and forcing the home ministry to declare that the case cannot be taken up by a normal court but only Islamic sharia can get it done.I hope that the US doesnot go the same way.

  10. Charlie Rose – A conversation with John Esposito, professor of International Affairs and Islamic Studies at Georgetown University & Dalia Mogahed. Friday September 5, 2008

    http://www.charlierose.com/view/interview/9246

Dalia says every prominent Islamic organization including Saudi Arabia and Hamas has condemned the 911 attacks. According Muslims there is no separation or not much between a Muslim’s religious and secular views. In other words separation of church and State is not an acceptable or even readily understood to be an Islamic objective.

It is unbelievable that both Esposito and Dalia believe that the Islamic extremists hijack Islam. When in reality the Islamic extremists are the pious Muslims that practice the true tenets of Muhammad, the Quran and Islam. They also indicated that moderate Muslims do exists, but are marginalized by the Western Media. It all sounded just like Taqiyyah and deception to me, it was interesting though. Obviously there can be no amalgam of Islam and Democracy.

One wonders if Dalia Mogahed has ever spoken or said “The Pledge of Allegiance” out loud! Dalia Mogahed signing a pledge against “death for apostasy” is not likely, that would be un-Islamic.

  11. @shamu16:

You will note I did say that the attempts to "smooth the way for and to Muslim integration” would be successful, just that I assumed this was what this job was about.

For the record let me say that I agree that "good" muslims don't integrate (if by this you mean Traditional Muslims – those that actually believe in Koran/Ahadith/Sunnah/Sharia), indeed Trad.Islam tells them not to.

"When I said two faced I mean how can Ms. Mogahed take a job with the government and yet her beliefs are in conflict and contrary to the american constitution."

Simple, if someone is a big enough dam*ed fool to offer it to her either because questions of loyalty were never asked or because of a "disbeliever" attitude.

[A disbeliever is someone who will hear and see nothing "bad" about Islam.]

Since Taqqiya is basically "lying in the cause of Islam", then I still maintain that Dahlia Mogahed is being honest here. How much simpler would it have been for her to sign the letter even though/if she believed the opposite and thus avoid the press criticism?

That would be Taqqiya, this is honesty and she is, I suspect, one of a rare breed; an honest Muslim – one who is clear about her beliefs, aims and objectives.

In the UK we have Anjem Choudhary; he's an honest muslim. He tells it straight: he wants to overthrow the Government and laws of the UK and replace it with a Caliphate and Sharia; yes he's obnoxious (to put it mildly) but at least he's honest – no Taqqiya here – and he clearly states what Islam's aims are.

I'll take that over any number of Taqqiya spouting mouthpieces telling me how 'peaceful' Islam is, how it affords full human rights (UDHR type not CDHRI!) to women, minorities etc.

Again for the record I'm not saying that she should be in this post (I don't think it is appropriate that someone who doesn't believe in freedom of choice viz-a-viz religion should be working with mixed-faith groups); but, given that she has made her views clear, the "fault" in her having this post is not hers, but the PC fools who were (perhaps) looking for a "suitable Muslim" to fill it under the pro-Muslim thinking of the Obama administration, which seems to have collapsed from outreach to appeasement.

["Hey, we've got a muslim applicant here", "GOOD"; "And its a women!", "GREAT! the boss will be delighted. Give her the job!"]

  17. FMU members should not be too discouraged about getting that pledge signed by Mogahed. Who better should know that the word of a Muslim is not worth the ink used to write on the paper.
