Mr. Sina, you don’t exhibit the Qur’an like a scholarly person

2/19/2012

FFI received an article from Mr. Mbamba Uswege. Below is Mr. Uswege’s email, along with Dr. Sina’s response to him. We will update this posting in case Mr. Uswege continues this discussion

The following article posted on faithfreedom.com site claims that Ali Sina does not understand the manner in which the Quran was revealed. Can you please clarify?

Mbamba Uswege

People such as Mr Sina of faithfreedom.org are able to convince the already badly informed public that the Quran is a book which preaches violence against them because they deliberately choose not to mention the manner in which the Quran was revealed and the events which took place during its revelation. Had they done so, many of their claims would be invalidated. Keeping people away from the context in which verses were delivered or totally denying this reality is Mr Sina’s favourite tactic, as we shall soon discover. First of all here is a little history on the life of the Prophet (pbuh), and how his religion spread initially.

The Prophets father had passed away before his birth. He was just six years old when his mother passed away. He grew up within a respected tribe and quickly became known as “Ahmed”, meaning the praised one. He developed a knack for trade and his talent was quickly recognised by a wealthy tradeswomen, a widow named Khadija, whom eventually proposed to Mohammed. This was his first marriage.

At some point during his late thirties / early forties he sought a place for meditation during certain parts of the day or night. This is where he first came into contact with the Angel Gabriel, who would deliver to him “The Word of God”. The carriage of the message is from God, through Angel Gabriel to Prophet Mohammed and then scribed on to leather, bark, bones or whatever was available by his followers (those of them who could write). These individual writings were later compiled into a complete book given the title “The Quran”, this name is chosen by God during the revelation.

The Quran was not revealed as one book, given to Mohammed at one moment in time, nor was it revealed over a period of days or months but a total of 23 years! Over this period much reform took place. Pagan ideals were not drastically ended but were phased out slowly and in a very restrained manner. Among the practices Islam came to abolish were infanticide, fornication, incest, slavery, idolatry and the multiple god theories.

To put things into perspective: The Quran contains 114 surahs and anywhere between 3 to 286 verses per surah, a total of somewhere in the region of 6,400 verses. The Quran was revealed several verses at a time, for 30 days (one month) of the year. The remaining parts of the year (11 months) were without revelation. This yearly event took place for 23 years. The months of revelation are known as “Ramadan”. This is why they are considered the “holy months” by Muslims. Thus we can see quite evidently, the revelation of the Quran had many gaps and it was very much dependant upon the needs and requests of the people of the time. Do not misunderstand me the Quran also clearly gives instruction and direction for all of humanity, for all of time E.g. It reaffirms the 10 commandments – which by default transcend all of time. The vast majority of the verses in the Quran have a context, and it is tragic to witness fierce anti-Islamics, such as Mr Sina, read out of context, failing to acknowledge this blindingly apparent fact.

So what influences the revelation of a particular verse? Why are certain topics favoured? why is there a fair bit of reference to war? And to personal issues? The simple fact of the matter is: The early followers of the Prophet (The Sahaba) posed questions to the Prophet. Questions such as what should we do with the orphans? How do we deal with the following matter? How should we distribute our wealth? What are the laws for marriage and divorce? What are the limits of warfare? How do we control our people? How can we ensure the integrity of Islam? Other events would take place on Earth which would require a reassurance from God, a message, an instruction, a reminder that God is with the people. This is why the Quran begins many verses with “They question thee (O Muhammad) with regard to….” or “They ask you O’ Mohammed concerning the….” or “Your Lord has heard what they ask you….” These are in direct response to questions posed by the people around him.

Therefore, for the revelation of a particular verse, an event on Earth took place, questions were asked, or guidance was much needed. A thorough history of early Islam and the Prophets upbringing is much required here but this is beyond the scope of this article. In a nutshell, after the death of his wife and uncle, the Prophet was banished from Mecca because of his unsettling of the Pagan customs. He was at his weakest since his uncle was the only one who held tribal relations. The Prophets assassination was plotted, he was the victim of much scorn and his people persecuted and tortured. He was driven out of Mecca with very few followers, many of these were closely related to him. A refuge opened to him in a town called Yathrib. The tribes of Yathrib welcomed him because they heard he was a great arbitrator and a sincere man. The tribes of Yahtrib were at great conflict with each other. When the Prophet arrived he was able to settle all disputes and was at the same time able to propagate his message of Islam, whilst allowing other beliefs to continue. His message was there were not many gods, each governing each tribe but only “One God, the God of all”. This notion of “One God, The Creator of all” meant “one people”, one race – The Human race, and therefore no need for tribal differences and conflict. These people formed Mohammed’s early followers (outside of his family). The Prophet quickly gained more followers and soon the city of Yathrib was known as “The City of The Prophet” or Medina.

At the same time opposition was growing and Mohammed’s new ideas which appeared fanatical to the chief Pagans of Arabia resulted in great hatred for him. They declared war on Mohammed and all his people. At the time Mohammed’s people were comprised of mainly elderly men, boys and women. His army totalled a flimsy 300 with basic arms, and he had to compete against a few thousand Pagans all well equipped and heavily armed.

Thus early Islam was revealed in the context of all out war. Logically speaking Islam could never be established unless there was a concerted effort by the relatively few early Muslims to defend themselves. By the grace and will of God Almighty, Mohammed’s small army of 300 achieved successive victories against the Pagans, who numbered a few thousand. His army survived against these staggering odds for 3 years. The people of the desert saw Gods hand in these victories and joined in. As history tells us this army expanded from just 300 to 10,000 in a few years! So what exactly took place for Mohammed to win the hearts and minds of another 10,000 in such a short period? These 10,000 were by and large Pagans prior to Mohammed and Mohammed came to destroy their customs, their idol gods, their every way of life, surely he must have been the most hated person in Arabia at the time? If so, why all the subscribers to his message?

Mohammed with his 10,000 strong army then returned to his birthplace of Mecca and called for a truce with the Pagans of Mecca. Instead of waging a bloody revenge he offered them a chance to reform and change their ways. Instead of destroying the people, he destroyed the idols they revered so much. He saw these as the main obstacle to any kind of peace between the tribes, since each tribe had its own gods. On destroying these, he quickly won the hearts and minds of thousands more but at the same time earned the wrath of a few Pagan tribes who in the end waged another series of bloody wars against him and his men. The Prophet was often severely hurt in some of these battles, some of his people were captured, tortured and persecuted, and for a time the entire Muslim community was on the brink of extinction.

Anti-Islamics such as Mr Sina exhibit the Quran in a manner which would disgust any scholarly person, be they Muslim or not. They pick and choose not complete verses but mere lines from the Quran at their own discretion, failing to take into consideration their context and complete meaning. Why should we not apply context and rationale? Thus for the sake of honesty we must conclude the following: If somewhere in the revelation which Mohammed received, there are commands to fight or slay the Pagans they were more than justified at the time and all this only after great losses had been suffered and the Muslims were on the brink of extinction. God commanded the people to defend and fight for their faith in one God against those who waged war on them on account of their religion. Had they not done so, one can only imagine the consequences. Mohammed would have been killed and his followers forced to worship the many idol gods of the Pagans, whilst being subjected to the worst torture, and being forced to participate in the barbaric practices of those days! Thus the verses “fight and slay the pagans” and “fight those who fight you on account of your religion” amongst others were delivered for a purpose, a very wise purpose. Should we overlook these simple facts?

Our humanist friends deny the existence of The Creator, whom we happen to call God (Allah, Yahweh, Jehova, Elah, Eloha, Elohim, Rabb). How great a role does this play in their ridiculing of Islam? A very big one we should suppose. How can it be that one man, with one vision, transformed so many in such a short period of time? against the most overwhelming odds? They cannot accept the fact that a deity, if he existed would communicate with man in such a fashion. We remind them; had the guidance not come, humanity would’ve taken a very different course. The moral ground religion has taught us, the concept of marriage-bond, the definition of things such as incest, the many laws which human beings base their society on….all are in place today because of divinely inspired men. What little thanks they get! and what little thanks He gets!

Ali Sina’s Response

Dear Mbamba Uswege,

I do mention the occasions for which the verses of the Quran were dictated. Generally, Muslims don’t know those occasions because they have not read the Sira.  They have not read even the Quran.

I can easily see the author of the above is among those who have not read the Sira.  Things he says are not based on fact. This is the superficial information every Muslim knows.  But it is not true. Please understand that I know the things Muslims know. There is no point in rehashing to me the same ruse with which I grew up.

For example the article says Muhammad because known as “Ahmed”, meaning the praised one.

Muhammad was never known as Ahmed, He claimed that the Bible has named him as Ahmad, and that too is a lie.  In nowhere in the Bible there is a mention of anyone called Ahmad or Ahmed.

Then he writes: “He developed a knack for trade and his talent was quickly recognised by a wealthy tradeswomen, a widow named Khadija, whom eventually proposed to Mohammed.”

This too is not true. Muhammad had no job until the age of 25. He used to attend to the sheep of Abu Talib, a girly work, until Abu Talib told him he has many mouths to feed and that he (Muhammad) should find a real job. It was again Abu Talib that found Muhammad a job with Khadijah.   Muhammad made only one trip to Syria at the service of Khadijah. When he returned Khadijah married him and he stopped working. Muhammad never worked before or after that one single trip.

This article is full of inaccuracies, which clearly show the author has not read the Sira personally. His superficial knowledge of the history of Muhammad has many holes in it.  For example, the army of 300 men that won over 1000 Meccans is explained in the Sira. The 1000 Meccans were mostly old men and among them there were many women.  They were reluctant to kill their own children who had converted to Islam, while the Muslims were a bunch of ruthless savages who thought Islam has transformed their hearts and they did not owe any sense of loyalty to their unbelieving relatives.

Had the author read the Sira he would have noticed that when Muslims entered Medina and brought along the captives of the Badr and the women in Medina cheered and congratulated them, Salama ibn Salaama said, “What do you congratulate us for? They were a bunch of old bald guys whom we slaughtered like lied up camels.” Muhammad then smiled and said, “My nephew, they were the elders of the Quraish.”

Other victories of Muhammad have much to do with him being a deceiver and a raider and not because God was behind him. Unless you read the Sira you will not know these details because Muslim commentators will twists the facts to portray Muhammad as a holy man.

The problem is that Muslims don’t know their own books. If they read the Quran and the Sira, most of them will leave Islam, and it is funny that this author accuses me of not knowing the context of the verses when it is he who has not read the Sira.

I encourage Muslims to read the original books of history of Muhammad. Read the Tabari, the Tabaqat and the Sira of Ibn Ishaq.  Also read my book. You will find over 450 references in the footnotes of my book and hundreds more to the Quran in the body of the book.  Once you read my book you will know that I know the context of the verses a lot better than that most Muslims.

Also I have a challenge. If any person can read my book and show my errors, I will close down my sites. I think that is fair.

Regards

Ali Sina

  4. Dear Mr.Uswege

I've only known Islam for 3 years, thanks to Ali Sina & FFI.And believe me when I say that no Islamic scholar or cleric can pull the wool over my eyes anymore.Unlike you & most other muslims I've read the Quran in a language I understand & have a copy of Ibn Hisham's Sira on my shelf,so I'm quite familiar with the context of quranic verses. That's right, even a layman like myself (and every other regualr FFI viewer) will thrash you in a debate.

  5. Dear Dr. Sina, please continue your crusade against this evil cult called Islam! In Sanskrit there is a maxim 'SATYA MEVA JAYATE' which means truth alone triumphs! Yes,Dr.Sina you are telling the truth and you will be the winner! Whenever any layman reads debates between you and the so called defenders of Islam, she or he immediately grasps your sincerety and their(defenders') ignorance or duplicity! Please accept us as your comrades,Dr.Sina in this crusade. All the best for you and your team mates!

  6. Mr.Uswege said:Thus the verses “fight and slay the pagans” and “fight those who fight you on account of your religion” amongst others were delivered for a purpose, a very wise purpose. Should we overlook these simple facts?"

Then please be so kind as to provide us with the proper context & purpose of those verses "fight & slay the pagans" & "fight those who fight you…"
We might even decide to accept your interpretations & opinions of those verses & completely discard those of the Sirat & Tabari.

  7. IN sanskrit there is a maxim 'SATYA MEVA JAYATE' WHICH MEANS,TRUTH ALONE TRIUMPHS! Dr. sina is preaching the truth, which may be bitter for many muslims! But,they must accept the truth or prove it false! Even for a layman like me Dr.Sina's writings seem absolutely correct! No muslim scholar or mulla could prove Dr.Sina wrong is ample testimony that Islam is evil and a scrouge of humanity! All the best to you Dr.Sina and to your team mates! Please continue this crusade.

  8. Dear Uswege,
What about the people who terrorize Christians , Jews,Hindus and Buddhists in the name of Islam? Do they also not understand Islam properly? The proof of the pudding is in the eating my friend. All Islamic country treat non Muslims poorly and do not accord them equal status. Why are non Muslims treated as second class citizens in Pakistan,Saudi Arabia,Bangladesh,Egypt,Indonesia?
The fact is Islam is a religion based on lies and a false messenger who concocted his own messages and ascribed them to GOD. That is why questioning Islam is taboo.

  9. According to this Mbamba Uswegae

'Being Scholarly' is being a sheep, non questioning.
'Being Scholarly' to the Arab World is to be a dhimmi.

  10. Mr Uswege included slavery and fornication among the vices Islam abolished, but this is a lie. Islam institutionalized slavery and with it the worst form of fornication: Rape.

  11. You don't need a scholarly person to expose all the Islamic lies. Any ordinary human beings with a high IQ will do.

  12. What is the scholarly way of calling a terrorist, charlatan, rapist, impotent, coward, having a bunch of like minded thugs for followers ?

Call him Mohammad, the Prophet of Islam.

  19. Mbamba

If you are reading this, then you should know, in all honesty that you are still in kindergarten concerning Islamic knowledge and common logic, your attempt to limit Allah’s commands of holy fighting to a specific time, highlighted your poor comprehension of dozens of the Jihad verses, you could either be an obscrantist/taqiyya tactician or a midget in real Islamic knowledge.

You insinuated that prophet Moh’d had to be a real godly sent messenger because so many people have followed him, well that’s a flaw in logic known as special pleading, your failure to discern what made them follow him does not necessitate a godly influence, ever heard of the hell-fire threat? Lastly, you again made another careless goof by ascribing human morality to the influence of god, many people are good without god, and your ‘incest’ example flies in your face because god allowed it between Adam and Hauwa’s children that’s how the world was populated right?

  20. muhamad,s given birth name is>>QATHAM…one of muhamads 13 uncles was also named QATHAM..NONE of muhamad"QATHAM" uncles accepted islam except the youngest HAMZA,his father abu taleb handed him to khadija to feed him,abu taleb had to many mouths to feed at that time, either death by hunger to Hamza or adoptian by khadija for survivelship
Al-Abass-muhamad uncle] became a muslim one year before the death of muhamad, for business sole purpose to make money abbas cared less about islam…as a matter of fact the abbasiad dynasty-caliphat- in iraq, baghdad named after him..the abbas clan loved power and money
khadija&her uncle the MONK Waraqa bin nofal were christians..christianity permits one man one wife.muhamad remained for 21 years with one woman, after khadija,s death the pedophiler muhamad instituted islamic marriage rules,4 wives plus unlimited captured women

AHMAD/AHMED OR MUHAMAD ARE NICK NAMES,QATHAM is his real name [poo be uppon him]

  21. The best and easiest way for a non-Muslim to appreciate the "context" of the Quran is to read "A Two-Hour Koran" published by the Center for the Study of Political Islam — http://www.cspipublishing.com This 80 page book weaves Ibn Ishaq's biography of Muhammad with a condensed, chronological text of the Quran. What is obvious from this rendering is that the Quran is nothing but the musings and rants of a very troubled Muhammad who lost battles, was mocked by the unbelievers, and who had endless troubles with his many wives. That is the context in a nut-shell.

  22. Mr.Uswege did not even read articles of Ali Sina, leave alone the Quraan and the sirats. Please Mr.Uswege read articles on faithfreedom.org. All the nonsense you tried to explained have been clarified there.

  23. Mr.Uswege if the war and the killings verses quoted from the Quraan are out of context, why are Muslims killing everybody everywhere today and Muhammad is long gone. Why are the present day Muslims quoting those same verses prior to or after massacres and slaughters of humans? Why? Olease read the Quraan or join Muhammad in hell, now. Or shut up, poor you.

  24. Ukumo, you are right.

  25. Untrue that Moh obolished poly theism . Moh did a deal with the poly theists when islam was still in infancy .

  26. It's funny how Mo abolished all the things that Muslims do. Funny how that works. Oh well, what do I know, I'm not a skoler.

  27. I learned a lot of my Islamic skolershit from this book:
    http://prophetofdoom.net/Prophet_of_Doom_Letter_t…

It is 8 or 9 hundred pages and I ate up every word of it.

  28. to sinna(

t is commonly held that the sha’n-i nuzul(he term refers to the occasion of revelation of a surah or part of a surah of the Holy Qur’an.) is in fact a narration of a particular incident or incidents, which spurred the revelation of a verse or set of verses. I am afraid this is not correct. The sha’n-i nuzul of a revelation, in fact, refers to the circumstances encompassing the addressees of the Holy Qur’an at the moment of revelation. The Holy Qur’an, in fact, deals with a certain issue or a set of issues as the central theme of all the surahs. The whole address revolves round that issue or a set of issues. Therefore, the best way to ascertain the sha’n-i nuzul is to deliberate upon the contents of the surah per se, because surahs are always addressed while keeping such circumstances in view. Just as an expert doctor identifies the ailment a patient is suffering from by simply analyzing the medicines mentioned in the prescription, in precisely the same manner, an expert is expected to identify the sha’n-i nuzul of the Qur’anic text by examining a surah. In a meaningful discourse, the discourse and its theme must possess mutual affinity and relationship, just as a well-fitted dress is in accordance with the shape of the body. It goes without saying that the components of a meaningful discourse are closely knit. When a tradition says that a certain verse was revealed regarding a particular incident it indicates the circumstances in which the audience were at the time of that particular revelation. Thus we come to know of the immediate reasons for the revelation of the surah. Suyuti writes:

Zarkashi writes in al-Burhan: It is evident from the convention followed by the Companions and the Successors that when they say that such and such verse was revealed about such and such incident they mean that the verse embodies a ruling about that issue. It doesn’t mean that the revelation of a particular verse/s was primarily prompted by that incident. The narratives are not told just in order to report that incident. This phenomenon, in fact, involves deducing a decree from the verse regarding the issue [covered in the relevant sha’n-i nuzul narrative]. It does not involve mere reporting the historical fact about the revelation of the verse. I believe that it is very important to appreciate that it is not necessary that a verse should have been revealed at the time when the incident took place.( Suyuti, al-Itqan, 1st ed., vol. 1 (Beirut: Dar al-Fikr, 1996), 93-94.)

The above quoted views of Zarkashi solves the problem faced by Razi while interpreting the following verse of the Holy Qur’an:

  29. (وَإِذَا جَاءكَ الَّذِينَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِآيَاتِنَا (٥٤:٦

When those who belief in our revelations come to you. (6:54)

    Imam Razi writes:

I am quite mystified here. The scholars are unanimous that the whole surah was revealed at one time. Then how could one say that such and such verse of the surah is prompted by such and such incident?(Razi Tafsir al-Kabir, 2nd ed., vol. 13 (Tehran: Dar al-Kutub al ‘Ilmiyyah, n.d.), 2-3.)

Therefore, in my opinion, as is obvious from the above discussion, all the surahs were revealed to deal with matters, which needed an explanation, while taking care that text of the surahs remained coherent and free of ambiguities. We experience that an expert orator delivers a speech regarding conditions and demands before him, in such a way that he does not mention a particular issue yet his speech covers all the pertinent issues. Likewise, sometimes he mentions a particular person or incident but his address is all embracing and universal in nature. Same is the case with the revelation of the Holy Qur’an as can be discerned from the following verse:

    (وَ إِنْ تَسْئَلُوْا عَنْهَا حِيْنَ يُنَزَّلُ الْقُرْآنُ تُبْدَ لَكُمْ (١٠١:٥

If you ask about them during the time the Qur’an is being revealed they will be made known to you. (5:101)

This verse testifies to the fact that the Holy Qur’an, during the course of its revelation, would answer queries that arose in the minds of its addressees without disturbing the flow of its discourse. So when a surah would be completed while meeting the objectives of the discourse, it did not lack any thing regarding the clarification of the matter and nor did it bear any thing in excess.

Sometimes this need was not fully met and another surah would be revealed to fully clarify the issue. The occasion of revelation would still be the same but the surah would be couched in new style to avoid monotony and uniformity in the discourse. That is why the surahs revealed in the beginning commonly dealt with subjects like resurrection, monotheism, belief in the Messengers of Allah among others. In all such surahs covering similar topics, different styles were adopted. Sometimes it was felt that a particular thing in a surah needed an explanation so an explanatory verse would be revealed and placed there. This was in accordance with the promise Allah made in Surah Qiyamah:

    (ثُمَّه إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا بَيَانَهُ (٧٥:١٩

Then upon Us is its explanation. (75:19)

In such cases, the discourse would follow the context of the surah rather than its period of revelation. Usually such verses would be followed by an assertion explaining that the part under question was revealed in order to make something clear. Therefore, verses similar to the following would be placed at the end of the clarifying directive:

    (كَذَلِكَ يُبَيِّنُ اللّهُ آيَاتِهِ لِلنَّاسِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَّقُونَ (١٨٧:٢

In this manner, Allah explains his verses to make people understand so that they may be fearful. (2: 187)

If we want to be completely convinced and satisfied regarding the explanation of a certain part of the Holy Qur’an, we should not let go of the context of the verses lest we become like a wanderer in a desert who gets to a crossroad in the dark of night not knowing where to proceed. Thus the occasion of revelation of a surah should be determined from the text of the surah alone. Only those narratives should be considered worthwhile in this regard which are in harmony with the context of the surah rather than those which disrupt its coherence. Therefore, the most well-grounded view regarding an occasion of revelation is that which is determined with the help of the context. One should strongly adhere to it. When a general decree is revealed on a certain occasion, this (occasion and condition) alludes to the reason and wisdom behind that decree.

  30. For instance, the Holy Qur’an mentions both monogamy and polygamy. If we consider the sha’n-i nuzul by reflecting on the context, it becomes clear that the first practice is adopted in order to do justice with the orphans(Sometimes a man feels the need to marry more than one woman for the welfare of the orphans or to fulfill any other pressing social or moral responsibility. (Islahi)) while the second is a requirement of justice with the wives. The two directives themselves are based on the common underlying reason of justice with the weak. Circumstances will tell which one is applicable in a particular situation. Similar is the case of pledging some item as collateral for a loan. To take something precious from a brother in this way is an act of obvious meanness. Therefore, the Almighty allowed us to resort to this process only and only when we feel no way out of such an arrangement and clearly directed us to return the things taken thus immediately after the need is fulfilled.(This has been briefly discussed in our commentary on the Qur’an 2:283. )

  31. # In nowhere in the Bible there is a mention of anyone called Ahmad or Ahmed.

“Those who follow the messenger, the Prophet who can neither read nor write, whom they will find described in the Torah and the Gospel which are with them). He will enjoin on them that which is right and forbid them that which is wrong. He will make lawfu1 for them all good things and prohibit for them only the foul; and he will relieve them of their burden and the fetters that they used to wear. Men those who believe in him, and honor him, and help him, and follow the light which is sent down with him: they are the successful.” (The Qur’an 7:157).

Quoting the Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him), the Qur’an states:
“And when Jesus, son of Mary said: 0 children of Israel: Lo! I am the messenger of Allah unto you, confirming that which was (revealed) before me in the Torah, and bringing good tidings of a messenger who will come after me, whose name is praised one. Yet when he has come unto them with clear proofs, they say: This is mere magic. (The Qur’an 61:6).

    The Prophet |esus foretold the
    coming of another Pyophef whose
    name would be 'Periqlytos' or
    'Paraclete' or 'Paracalon' and who
(that is, whose teaching) would last
forever, 'I will pray the Father, and
He shall give you another Comforter
(Periqlytos), that he may abide with
    you forever.' john XIV,16).
The word illustrious,'praiseworthy' periqlytos means 'renowned' and and this is exactly what the name 'Ahmed' means. It is confirmed in the Qur'an that the Prophet ]esus did prophesize that a Prophet narned 'Ahmed' would come after him.

    # treatment of badar captives

On their way back to Madinah, at a large sand hill, the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam divided the spoils equally among the fighters after he had taken Al-Khums (one-fifth). When they reached As-Safra’, he ordered that two of the prisoners should be killed. They were An-Nadr bin Al-Harith and ‘Uqbah bin Abi Muait, because they had persecuted the Muslims in Makkah, and harboured deep hatred towards Allaah and His Messenger sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam . In a nutshell, they were criminals of war in modern terminology, and their execution was an awesome lesson to oppressors. ‘Uqbah forgot his pride and cried out, “Who will look after my children O Messenger of Allaah?” The Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam answered, “The Fire (of Hell).” Did ‘Uqbah not remember the day when he had thrown the entrails of a sheep onto the head of the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam while he was prostrating himself in prayer, and Fatimah had come and washed it off him? He had also strangled the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam with his cloak if it had not been for Abu Bakr to intervene and release the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam . The heads of both criminals were struck off by Alee bin Abi TAleeb.

The Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam exhorted the Muslims to treat the prisoners so well to such an extent that the captors used to give the captives their bread (the more valued part of the meal) and keep the dates for themselves.

Prisoners of war constituted a problem awaiting resolution because it was a new phenomenon in the history of Islaam. The Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam consulted Abu Bakr and Umar bin Al-Khattab as to what he should do with the prisoners. Abu Bakr suggested that he should ransom them, explaining this by saying: “They are after all our relatives, and this money would give us strength against the disbelievers, moreover, Allaah could guide them to Islaam.” Umar advised killing them, saying, “They are the leaders of Kufr (disbelief).” The Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam preferred Abu Bakr’s suggestion to that of Umar’s. The following day, Umar called on the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam and Abu Bakr to see them weeping. He showed extreme astonishment and inquired about the situation so that he might weep if it was worth weeping for, or else he would feign weeping.

“It is not for a Prophet that he should have prisoners of war (and free them with ransom) until he had made a great slaughter (among his enemies) in the land. You desire the good of this world (i.e. the money of ransom for freeing the captives), but Allaah desires (for you) the Hereafter. And Allaah is All-Mighty, All-Wise. Were it not a previous ordainment from Allaah, a severe torment would have touched you for what you took.” [Qur'aan 8:67-68]

The previous Divine ordainment went as follows,

“Thereafter (is the time) either for generosity (i.e. free them without ransom) or ransom.” [Qur'aan 47:4]

Which included an area providing permission to take ransom, that is why no penalty was imposed. They were rebuked only for taking prisoners before subduing all the land of disbelief. Apart from this, the polytheists taken to Madinah were not only prisoners of war but rather archcriminals of war whom modern war penal law brings to justice to receive their due sentence of death or prison for life.

  33. The ransom for the prisoners ranged between 4000 and 1000 Dirhams in accordance with the captive’s financial situation. Another form of ransom assumed an educational dimension; most of the Makkans, unlike the Madinese, were literate and so each prisoner who could not afford the ransom was entrusted with ten children to teach them the art of writing and reading. Once the child had been proficient enough, the instructor would be set free. Another clan of prisoners were released unransomed on grounds of being hard up. Zainab, the daughter of the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam , paid the ransom of her husband Abul-’As with a necklace. The Muslims released her prisoner and returned the necklace in deference to the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam but on condition that Abul-’As allow Zainab to migrate to Madinah, which he actually did.

In captivity, there was also an eloquent orator called Suhail bin ‘Amr. Umar suggested that they pull out his front teeth to disable him from speaking, but the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam turned down his suggestion for fear Quraish should retAleeate in the same manner on one hand, and on the other for fear of Allaah’s wrath on the Day of Resurrection.

Sa’d bin An-Nu’man, a lesser pilgrim detained in Makkah, was released in return for setting Abu Sufyan’s son, a captive, free.

The Story of the 600-700 Jews Beheaded by the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam at Bani Quraiza in 5 AH

The Bani Quraiza was a tribe of Jews in a district of Madinah that betrayed the Muslims and sided with the enemy during the Battle of Ahzaab (also known as the Battle of the Confederates and the Battle of the Trench). The Sealed Nectar describes what happened to them immediately after the Battle of Ahzaab:

Archangel Gabriel, on the very day the Messenger of Allaah sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam came back to Madinah after the previous battle, and while he was washing in Umm Salama’s house, visited him asking that he should unsheathe his sword and head for the habitation of the seditious Banu Quraiza and fight them. Gabriel noted that he with a procession of angels would go ahead to shake their forts and cast fear in their hearts.

The Messenger of Allaah sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam , immediately summoned the prayer caller and ordered him to announce fresh hostilities against Banu Quraiza, institued Ibn Umm Maktum as a ruler of Madinah, and entrusted the banner of war to Alee bin Abi TAleeb who marched towards the appointed target and came close enough to hear the Jews abusing the Messenger of Allaah sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam , who on his part set out at the head of three thousand infantry men and thirty horsemen of Ansar (Helpers) and Muhajireen (Emigrants). On their way to encounter the enemy, the afternoon prayer was due. Some Muslims refused to observe it until they had defeated the enemy, while others offered it in its proper time, as usual. The Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam objected to neither. When they reached the habitations of Banu Quraiza, they laid tight siege to their forts. Seeing this terrible situation they were in, the chief of the Jews Ka’b bin Asad offered them three alternatives: to embrace Islaam, and consequently their life, wealth, women and children would be in full security, and reminded them that such behaviour would not be incongruous with what they had read in their books about the veracity of Muhammad’s Prophethood; to kill their children and women and then challenge the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam and his followers to the sword to either exterminate the Muslims or be exterminated, or as a third possibility to take Muhammad sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam and his people by surprise on Saturday – a day mutually understood to witness no fighting.

None of those alternatives appealed them, so their chief, angrily and indignantly, turned to them saying: “You have never been decisive in decision-making since you were born.” The gloomy future already visible, they made contacts with some Muslims, who had maintained good relation with them, in order to learn about their fate in the light of the current circumstances. They requested that Abu Lubaba be despatched to them for advice. On his arrival, the men began to implore, women and children to cry desperately. In answer to their demand for advice he pointed to his throat saying it was homicide awaiting them. He then immediately reAleezed that he had betrayed the Prophet’s trust, so he headed directly for the mosque in Madinah and tied himself to a wooden tall pole swearing that no one would untie him save the Messenger of Allaah sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam , and added that he would never enter the habitation of Banu Quraiza in recompense for the deadly mistake he made. When the Messenger sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam was informed of this incident, he said, ” I would have begged Allaah to forgive him if he had asked me, but since he had tied himself out of his own free will, then it was Allaah Who would turn to him in forgiveness.”

The Jews of Banu Quraiza could have endured the siege much longer because food and water were plentifully available and their strongholds were greatly fortified, whereas the Muslims were in the wild bare land suffering a lot from cold and hunger, let alone too much fatigue consequent on endless warfare operations that had started even before the battle of Confederates. Nevertheless, this was a battle of nerves, for Allaah had cast fear in the the Jews’ hearts, and their morale had almost collapsed especially when two Muslim heroes, Alee bin Abi TAleeb and Az-Zubair bin ‘Awwam proceeded with Alee swearing that he would never stop until he had either stormed their garrisons or been martyred like Hamza (a former Muslim martyr).

In the light of this reluctance, they had nothing except to comply with the Messenger’s judgement. The Messenger of Allaah sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam ordered that the men should be handcuffed, and this was done under the supervision of Muhammad bin Salamah Al-Ansari while the women and children were isolated in confinement. Thereupon Al-Aws tribe interceded begging the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam to be lenient toward them. He suggested that Sa’d bin Mu’adh, a former ally, be deputed to give verdict about them, and they agreed.

  34. Sa’d meanwhile stayed behind in Madinah due to a serious wound he sustained in the Confederates Battle. He was summoned and brought on a donkey. On his way to the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam , the Jews used to exhort him to be lenient in his judgement on account of former friendship. Sa’d remained silent but when they persisted he uttered: “It is time for Sa’d not to be afraid of the blame of the blamers.” On hearing this decisive attitude, some of them returned to Madinah waiting for a desperate doom.

On arrival, he Aleeghted with the help of some men. He was informed that the Jews had agreed to accept his verdict about them. He immediately wondered if his judgement would pass on all the people present, the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam included, turning his face away in honour of him. The reply was positive.

He decided that all the able-bodied male persons belonging to the tribe should be killed, women and children taken prisoners and their wealth divided among the Muslim fighters. The Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam accepted his judgement saying that Sa’d had adjudged by the Command of Allaah. In fact, the Jews deserved that severe punitive action for the ugly treachery they had harboured against Islaam, and the large arsenal they have amassed and which consisted of one thousand and five hundred swords, two thousand spears, three hundred armours and five hundred shields, all of which went into the hands of the Muslims. Trenches were dug in the bazaar of Madinah and a number of Jews between six and seven hundred were beheaded therein. Hot beds of intrigue and treachery were thus exterminated once and for all.

Huyai, a chief criminal of war, a devil of Bani Nadir and Safiyah’s father, had joined the ranks of Banu Quraiza when Quraish and Ghatfan defected, was admitted into the audience of the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam with his hands tied to his neck with a rope. In audacious defiance, he declared obstinate enmity to the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam but admitted that Allaah’s Will was to be fulfilled and added that he was resigned to his fate. He was ordered to sit down, and was beheaded on the spot.

Only one woman of the Jews was killed because she had killed a Muslim warrior by flinging a grinding stone upon him. A few elements of the enemy embraced Islaam and their lives, wealth and children were spared. As for the spoils of the war, the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam divided them, after putting a fifth aside, in accordance with Allaah’s injunctions. Three shares went to the horseman and one to the infantry fighter. Women captives were sent to Najd to be bartered with horses and weaponry.

After the war with Banu Quraiza had been settled and they had been defeated, Sa’d bin Mu’adh’s wish was gratified and he gave his last breath. In response to his supplication ‘Aishah narrated, Sa’d's wounds began to bleed from the front part of his neck while he was in his tent which the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam had pitched for him in the mosque so that he would be in close proximity in order to inquire about and watch his well-being closely. The people were not scared except when the blood flowed towards them, and in the Mosque along with Sa’d's tent, there was the tent of Banu Ghifar. They said: O people of the tent, what is it that is coming to us from you? Lo! it was Sa’d's wound that was bleeding and he died thereon.

Jabir narrated that the Messenger of Allaah sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam had said: “The Throne of the Compassionate shook for the death of Sa’d bin Mu’adh.” When his bier was carried, At-Tirmidhi said: The hypocrites alleged it was too light. The Messenger of Allaah sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam retorted: “The angels are carrying him.”

In the process of the sieze laid to Banu Quraiza, one man of the Muslims, Khallad bin Suwaid was killed when a women of the Jews dropped the grinding stone on him, and another, Abu Sinan bin Mihsan, the brother of ‘Ukasha, died.

Abu Lubaba stayed tied for six nights. His wife used to untie him at prayer times and then he tied himself again to the pole. One early morning, Allaah the All-Forgiving revealed a verse to the Messenger of Allaah sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam to the effect that Allaah had turned to Abu Lubaba with forgiveness. The Muslims rushed to release him but he insisted that the Messenger of Allaah sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam himself do it. And this was done shortly before the morning prayer.

This Military Expedition took place in the month of Dhul Qa’dah in the year five Hijri (5AH), and the siege of Banu Quraiza’s forts lasted for 25 days. The Chapter of Confederates (Qur’aan, Surah 33)was revealed containing Allaah’s Words concerning the basic issues relating to the believers and hypocrites during the battle of the Confederates, and the consequences of the treachery and breaching of covenants by the Jews.

  35. #The problem is that Muslims don’t know their own books. If they read the Quran and the Sira, most of them will leave Islam,

the most of the human being reading the quran with authentic source not some lecture note from spincer and sina, they well known the quran and hadeeth, that way they converting islam

  36. …they deliberately choose not to mention the manner in which the Quran was revealed and the events which took place during its revelation. …USwege.
Muhammed went into the caves, and we know caves live many demonic spirits. He often fell into fits, the circumstances which we known as demonised.Muhammed told Karthijah that he met demons, and he was shakings all over when he met demons in the caves.

It was Karthijah who comforted him and help him made a lie,"Oh,what you see is not demons but Angels".Karthijah, who did not encounter the demons can tell Muhammad what he had seen and what he had not seen.

Since Gabriel Angel is around, did he testify to our world that he gave revelation to Muhammed?Today, anyone can check with Gabriel Angel, and since Gabriel "told "us that Muhammed lied about his encounter, why my words is unbelievable but Muhammed that evil man is credible, huh?

Gabriel Angel had appeared to many Christians, and… Roland Buck,Sadhu and many others who have seen Gabriel, they will tell you that Muhammed told a lie.If we chose to believe in Single witness,…why men of integrity words cannot be trusted, but the words of a mad man like Muhammad is credible?

  37. It is a well known fact that caves live evil spirits, and angels of God appear openly,in the open area,or the clouds.Muhammed told his followers that he met angels in the caves, was actually telling them he met demons by implications. Moreover,Muhammed confessed that he saw demons and he was fearful, mind you,he was not jumping up for joys for having seen Angels of God.

It was his wife Karthijah, who help him formulate a lie,and told him what he saw was not demons, practically changed his testimony for him.

The Koran contain bits and information about events and stories of the bible. It got its names and people wrong.Unless you are an idiot, how can you not see those Koran's stories about Daniel,Moses or Abraham were incomplete? The manner and style can be seen that someone is copying from the Bible. If it is original version, why it is always bit and pieces of information, unlike the Bible had its stories complete, and more detail?

  38. Comparing mohambum the Pirate to the Holy Spirit, the Comforter, is a profound insult and a sick joke. Your four legged Pirate is not the Comforter.

Besides, I thought you said the Bible is corrupt. The parts you don't like are corrupt, and the parts you think you can use are not corrupt. Interesting approach. Did you learn that from the Islamic skolerz?

    • "They fought against Midian, as the LORD commanded Moses, and killed every man……..Now kill all the boys [innocent kids]. And kill every woman who has slept with a man, but save for yourselves every girl who has never slept with a man. (Numbers 31:7,17-18)"

Kill everything that "breathes" from humans and animals!
      (Deuteronomy 20:16)

      Deuteronomy 20:16
However, in the cities of the nations the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance, do not leave alive anything that breathes.

It is certainly the Bible's principle and foundation to kill all humans and animals from the enemy's side. If one wouldn't call that terrorism, war crimes and mass-murdering, then what else should they call it?

      1 Samuel 15:2-4
2 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I remember that which Amalek did to Israel, how he laid wait for him in the way, when he came up from Egypt.
3 Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.
4 And Saul gathered the people together, and numbered them in Telaim, two hundred thousand footmen, and ten thousand men of Judah.

The pedophilic Biblical verses are Numbers 31:17-18 and Numbers 31:35-40. Below, you will see DETAILED HISTORY on these SPECIFIC verses from the Jewish Talmud explaining the pedophilia that took place against the 3-year old slave girls under the direct command of Moses.

While Christians are not obligated to follow the laws of the Talmud in their social lives, but the historical FACTS that exist in the Talmud about the Biblical verses Numbers 31:17-18 and Numbers 31:35-40 below, and how the "BIBLE FOLLOWERS" during those days were mostly pedophiles who literally forced sex on 3-year old girls after Moses' supposed 'Divine' order is clear indication that the Bible condones pedophilia.

      BEST OF LUCK X'AN

      • You’re criticizing Moses yet your Qur’an believes him as a prophet

        1 Kings 19:11-12
{{{{{{{{{{{The LORD said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the LORD, for the LORD is about to pass by.”
        Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. 12 After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. }}}}}}}}}}}}}}

God came in a GENTLE WHISPER proving that he is love and all the violence done in his name came from men not him and that’s what he’s trying to teach his prophets and people —> the LORD did not command Moses to kill but Moses killed anyway (that's free will of men and they're misusing this freedom).

      • continued

The pedophilic Biblical verses, the killing, the slaves, wars, conquest, hate, homosexuality… all in the Old Testament.

In the Old Testament they refer to the sick as being punished by god but when Jesus came he told him that GOD did not give sickness and that was not a punishment from GOD. When he came he corrected what they misunderstood from

That’s why the Old Testament is mostly a Jew point of view (representing what they thought was right at the time) and full of their misunderstanding to God. All what happened whether good or bad, right or wrong, from men or from god, they all referred it to god and documented it.

So when you read the Old Testament you must do it while understanding the history of authors and the people back then in order to identify the word of God from the claims of men in the name of God (whether these men were prophets or not).

  39. Like a true muslim, Mbamba Uswege has come to the conclusion without reading any of the hundreds of thousands of well analysed and scholarly pages written by Dr. Ali Sina and others in Faith Freedom.org.
Mbamba Uswege may, at least now, read the quran, the hadiths and the history thoroughly.

  40. murtad sina is just fooling his followers, like many munafequn do, why murtad sina is not posting my answer to his followers, i have already given his answer of his book, understanding muhammad, debate-islam.blogspot.com

  41. Mufti hussain makki, Mr. Mbamba and other ignorant Muslims you waste your time to come up with more excuses for an already absurd cult. You are the ones misleading others! Stop this crap, loosen up and live your lives!!!!!! As if God who created the universe and all the wonders would be obsessed about how you should wipe your ass or your prophet’s sex life.

Obviously since logic and common sense is not in your dictionary I’ll approach in another way and ask you one question:

Why you are “the truth” when no miracles happen today in Islam but only terror, hate, rape and sadness???

Why the god of the Christians is “false” when you can go and see actual miracles (diseases and cancer cured, blinds seeing, handicapped cured, saints…….) miracles in the name of Jesus that are happening to Christians, atheists, Hindus, Buddhists…you name it and even Muslims????????????

Why the god of the Christians promises heaven to everyone no matter what their beliefs are? Now that sounds more like a creator who loves what he/she created.

  42. continued

Why GOOD Christians or atheists or others are happily living with LOVE, FREE WILL, liberty, no fear and prosperity while Muslims good or bad are trapped in a constant fear of Allah who BY THE WAY never punished or avenged the unbelievers?????????????

    IT’S TIME TO WAKE UP!!!!!

  43. Anjelica Cosgray

Sometimes I contemplate if folks truly take time to publish something original, or are they only just dishing out words to fill a site. This certainly doesn’t fit that mold. Thank you for taking the time to write with awareness. Now And Then I look at a page and question whether they even proofread it.Fantastic work with this article.

  44. Shabeer

Shabeer is not Shabeer. Shabeer has been carried away by Islam. He is no more there. Allah robbed off his mind. Shabeer is now a tape recorder of the Quran. Maybe Shabeer knows that if he begins to reflect by himself he may loose his faith and “it may cause” him “trouble” as Allah said. He may go to hell ? Isn’t it Shabeer ?

Shabeer, what do you think about this verse of the Quran: “Satan threw some (vanity) into his desire but Allah will cancel anything (vain) that Satan throws in” 22;52. Did Satan ever threw verses of his own in the Quran ? What are the circumstances of the revelation of this verse ?

  45. Shabeer,
Muhammad did not always kill his prisonners. Thanks God ! Muhammad would have ruined himself and his “companions”. But he did kill prisonners, he tortured a prisonner, he killed al Nader and Uqba and others who spoke against him (“When the apostle ordered him to be killed `Uqba said, ‘But who will look after my children?’ ‘Hell’, he said”. Ibn Hisham’s “Sirat Rasul Allah”, pages 308-312): You can’t deny that. This disqualify completely and forever Muhammad to be a a Prophet of God who, the more so, came 600 years after Jesus-Christ’s message.
Shabeer, maybe you could copy/paste something about how to recognise a prophet of God ? Is there some enlightening passages of the Quran on this matter ? What are the criteriums to recognize a prophet of God ? To kill people seems to be one of them. What are the others ? To have plenty of ennemies and make war ? Ok, here is a second criterium. To be “bewitched so that he began to imagine that he had done a thing which in fact he had not done” as Aisha reported ? Here is a third criterium. Give us other criteriums.

  46. Shabeer,

I am still there because I love you. It’s true.

Yes, Shabeer you are now a tape recorder, a Holy Tape Recorder, and when you will come to Paradise, because I wish you sincerely Paradise, I hope that Allah or Angel Gabriel will push the stop button. The chosen ones will not dare to take the initiative to do it, chiefly, if they are all Muslims and if so, it will be the hell in Paradise. Just kidding !

More seriously, I like your commentaries but I don’t agee with you at all, as you see. For a Westerner who is used to think, by his own , to make his own mind freely and use with great pleasure the reason and the free will God gave him , you are an amazing person. You should not be afraid to improve in wisdom by using these marvelous gifts from God. These are yours. God wants you to use them. If you are a man of good will, if you are a loving person , no harm can be done to yourself and to your neighbours. Quite the contrary, and you will be very happy and you will praise God every day. No need Jihad, no need to wash your feet in a wash stand of a restaurant. You will be free at last, and you will fear God no more. God will be your loving Father and you will be is loving son and almost everyone, will be your brothers. No more religion if you wish. God will love you just the same and you will go to Paradise if you are a man of good will. Ask Him.
