"You can be the Happiest Woman in the World"- A guide to deluding Muslim Women

PDF versionAfter I accepted Islam, a Muslim sister lent me a book, meant to help me deal with the struggle that I was going through with my family. The book, "You can be the Happiest Woman in the World- A Treasure Chest of Reminders" by Dr. 'A'id al-Qarni, is made up of short, meant-to-be inspirational passages that tell the Muslim woman why she should be happy, all based on Islamic texts and rules. Upon reading it, I found the book did more to anger me than make me happy, and after finding a couple of questionable ideas repeated I stopped reading. When I asked my friend for an explanation she said she had simply not noticed these issues when she read it, that she tended to filter such things out. Recently, I picked up the book again and have found that those two initial passages did not have isolated ideas at all- one could almost say, the ideas propagated in them are the theme of the book.
I find this book an interesting insight into the status and expectations of women in Islam, as it is written by Muslims FOR Muslims. There is no propaganda here for Westerners. When I first read this book I attributed its backwards ideas to the author and his misunderstanding of the religion, but after having seen all the evidences in the religion itself it is now obvious to me that the author is simply staying true to Islam's ideals.
Interesting themes to note while reading these excerpts:
- It is not enough to exalt the believing woman... the author also makes sure to paint a humiliating and evil picture of what the kuffar woman is like, as well as the hell that her life must be. The Us VS Them mentality definitely shines through.
- The single most important duty of a woman in Islam is to obey and please her husband.
- The Muslim woman must know her place and accept that she is not at the same level as men. This is the reason for the restrictions that Allah has placed on her life. "Praise be to Him".
You can be happy if you examine just one issue- the situation of the Muslim woman in the Muslim lands and the situation of the disbelieving woman in the lands of disbelief. The Muslim woman in the Muslim land is a believing woman who gives charity, fasts, prays [night prayers], observes hijab, obeys her husband, fears her Lord, is kind to her neighbours and is compassionate towards her children. So she is to be congratulated for her great reward, tranquility and contentment. The disbelieving woman in the lands of disbelief is a woman who makes a wanton display of herself; she is ignorant and foolish, a mere fashion model, a cheap and worthless product on offer in all places. She has no value, honour or religion. Compare the two situations, and you will see that you are the happiest, the most well off. The righteous Muslim woman is the one who treats her husband kindly and obeys him and obeys her Lord. The Messenger of Allah (Blessings and Peace be upon him) praised such women and regarded them as the ideal wives that men should look for. When the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) was asked which woman is best, he said: "The one who makes him (her husband) happy when he looks at her, who obeys him when he tells her to do something, and who does not oppose him in a manner that he dislikes with regard to herself or his wealth."...Chapter 9.6: A house without anger, noise and exhaustion
She said to her father, weeping: "O' my father, there was a problem between me and my husband yesterday, because of something I said. When I saw how angry he was I regretted what I had done, and I apologized to him, but he refused to speak to me and turned his face away from me. I kept on trying to calm him down until he smiled and was pleased with me. I am afraid that my Lord will hold me accountable for those moments in which I drove him crazy, when he was angry." Her father said to her: "O' my daughter, by the One in Whose hand is my soul, if you had died before your husband was pleased with you, Allah would not have been pleased with you. Don't you know that the woman whose husband is angry with her is cursed in the Tawrat (Torah), the Injil (Gospel) and the Qur'an, and the throes of death will be difficult for her, and her grave will be made narrow for her? So, glad tidings to the woman whose husband is pleased with her." The righteous woman is keen to be dear to her husband, so she does not do anything to upset their life together.Chapter 9.7: Chastity and modesty enhance beauty
....Their feet should not show and their clothes should have long hemlines that drag along the ground behind them so that men will not see anything of them. But women nowadays - except for those on whom Allah has mercy - raise their hemlines as much as they can, for fear of getting them wet or dirty, and in imitation of the disbelieving women who appear virtually naked. They make a thousand excuses for appearing as if naked and for behaving in an immoral manner- there is no strength and no power except with Allah. Their menfolk are men only in name, walking at their side and not caring about the loss of modesty.Chapter 10.6: Restraining the tongue
The historians narrate that one day Khalid ibn Yazid ibn Mu'wawiyah slandered 'Abdullah, ibn az-Zubayr, the sworn enemy of Bani Umayyah, and said that he was a miser. His wife Ramlah bint az-Zubayr, the sister of 'Abdullah, was sitting there, but she kept quiet and did not say a word. Khalid said to her: "Why don't you say anything? Do you agree with what I said, or is it just that you do not want to answer me?" She said: "Neither. But a woman was not created to interfere in the affairs of men, rather, we are flowers for smelling and embracing. Why would we want to interfere in your affairs?" He was impressed with her words and kissed her between the eyes.Chapter 14.1: You are a Muslim woman, neither eastern nor western
Do not be deceived by the West and its ideas and fashions. All of that is a trick to try to tempt us away from our religion gradually in order to take our wealth. Islam and its family system is what suits women, because women, by their nature, like to stay at home. Perhaps you are asking why? Because Allah, the Exalted, created men stronger than women, with more endurance, reason and physical strength. And He created women more emotional, with strong feelings; women do not possess the same physical strength as men. To some extent, women are moody in comparison to men. Hence, their home is the place of tranquility for them. The woman who loves her husband and children will not leave her house for no reason or mix with men at all. Ninety-nine per cent of females in the West did not reach the state of decline until they had sold themselves and had no fear of God in their hearts. Women's going out to work in the west at this large scale caused men to play the role of women, so, they stay at home washing dishes, looking after children and drinking alcohol. I know that Islam does not object to a man helping his wife at home, indeed this is encouraged, but not to such an extent that their roles are swapped.

Actually this book is written by a MALE Muslim for FEMALE Muslims. In Islam women are not permitted to speak for themselves. His lying book should be called by its proper name "You can be the UNHAPPIEST woman in the world.

It is amazing how educated women as well as not, are led to believe getting beaten is holy. It is god's will to be beaten! No it is not god's will, No where was Adam told to beat Eve. Actually I have seen another book like this as well (some years ago) that said much the same sort of thing, so it is not just the "good Doctor's" idea.
BTW - how scary is that , a Doctor as an interogator/torturor. How did he manage the Hipocratic oath?
