Who Won the War?
.The war in the Middle East seems to have ended, but who won? The answer to this question is not that easy.
Nassrullah, the leader of Hezbullah has triumphantly claimed that he won the war. He even celebrated his ‘victory’ with fireworks. Iran and Syria agree and beating their chests claim that Israel and America are defeated.
What is exactly this victory they are talking about? Hezbullah suffered heavy casualties. Israel occupied a great part of the Southern Lebanon, which was Hezbullah’s stronghold. The new resolution calls for the disarmament of Hezbullah and it is likely that this time they will be more serious to impose the resolution 1559, which means more hardship for Hezbullah. A great part of Lebanon’s infrastructure was destroyed and hundreds of civilians were caught in the crossfire and lost their lives. More than 600 Hezbollah fighters were killed, 3800 people were wounded and thousands of families became homeless – all that because of Hezbollah’s miscalculation in provoking Israel and starting the war. Apart from killing and wounding dozens of Israeli civilians, what Nasrullah has to offer for celebrating his victory?
This reminds me of Saddam Hussein who after being defeated by the coalition forces in 1991 and forced to withdraw from Kuwait, claimed victory when the war ended simply because he stayed in power.
What is behind this mentality? Why Muslims claim victory after being defeated? To understand this we must learn a thing or two about Narcissistic Personality Disorder.
For the narcissist image is everything. The narcissist needs to be loved and respected but unable to love anyone including himself, he directs his love to other people’s impression of him.
Psychologist Dr. Sam Vaknin writes: “If he [the narcissist] cannot love himself – he must love his reflection. But to love his reflection – it must be loveable. Thus, driven by the insatiable urge to love (which we all possess), the narcissist is preoccupied with projecting a loveable image, albeit compatible with his self-image (the way he "sees" himself).” [1]
In order to be loved and taken seriously by fellow Muslims, the Jihadis must be victorious. Al-Manar, a satellite TV run by Hezbullah, never portrays Arabs as defeated. Every single piece of propaganda showed on Al-Manara portrays Hezbullah as victorious guerrilla warriors, either during battle striking at Israeli targets, or returning from combat in triumph. Saving the image is of utmost importance to maintain legitimacy for any terrorist organization particularly for Muslims.
According to Nasrullah victory means merely to survive. He said: “If the resistance survives, this will be a victory. If its determination is not broken, this will be a victory. If Lebanon is not humiliated, if its honor and dignity remain intact, if Lebanon continues to face all alone the strongest military force in the region, and if it perseveres and refuses to accept any humiliating terms in the settlement of this issue - this will be a victory. If we are not militarily defeated, this will be a victory. As long as a single missile is launched from Lebanon to target the Zionists, as long as a single fighter fires his gun, as long as someone plants an explosive device for the Israelis, this means that the resistance still exists.” [2]
Hezbullah was defeated militarily. It was humiliated and is now required to disarm. The casualties and the destruction that they brought upon themselves and their fellow countrymen were immense. Despite all that, Nasrullah boasts to have won the war. Why? Because he looks into the future! He lost the war today but he knows that he will be the winner tomorrow. He is wounded, but not killed. He will strive to come back and when he comes back he will be stronger.
He is offering free rent to those who lost their homes and has promised them to rebuild their homes. By doing so he will become more popular. That is his victory. But who pays the bills? Iran! Iran used to pay 300 million dollars per years to Hezbullah. With this money they created a welfare system for the Lebanese Shiites and won their support.
Will Hezbullah disarm? Absolutely not! Hezbullah is an arm of Iran and it is created to fight Israel. Waging war against Israel is its raison d'être. Iran is not paying all that money to feed the Shiites out of charity. The population of Iran lives in abject poverty. The Mullahs are investing in Lebanon to wage their proxy war against Israel.
According to Iran National Front News Agency Abroad, an Iranian plane was forced to land in Turkey. The plane's destination was Lebanon and it was loaded with revolutionary guards. Recently a similar plane loaded with mid-range missiles was forced to return to Iran. [3]
It is foolhardy to believe that Hezbullah will disarm and will end its terrorist activities after this defeat. It is ill conceived to expect Nasrullah will desist from targeting Israel. Iran and Syria are ready to fight Israel to the last Lebanese and Palestinian.
The question is what is in it for Iran? The answer is that the Mullahs of Iran must fight Israel for their own survival. They have shown their failure in running the country. Despite the huge revenues from oil, the great masses of Iranians live bellow poverty lines. The youths have no hope in their future. Opium, AIDS and prostitution are destroying an entire generation. The regime has to revive the revolutionary zeal of the people and for that it needs an enemy. Iran needs another war to galvanize Iranians together. Israel makes a great enemy. Instilling the hatred of Israel and America in the foolhardy population will distract them from their own plight. For the Mullahs this war is a matter of life and death. Without diverting the attention of the ignorant masses to some imaginary enemy the Mullahs will have to answer for their theft and oppression. Revolution is like riding a bicycle. You must pedal or you’ll fall.
Iran will also continue with its plan to obtain nuclear bombs. If the Mullahs had ten priorities, the development of nuclear bomb is all of them. They will never give up on that quest. With the nuclear bomb they will become invincible and they know it too.
That is why it is difficult to answer who won this war. Israel won today but this victory is short lived. Because the snake was not beheaded, Hezbullah will be the winner in future.
But future is not written on stone. How can the defeat of Hezbullah become permanent? By cutting its bloodline! If the flow of money from Iran to Hezbullah is cut, the Shiites in Lebanon will turn against this terrorist organization. For that to happen we need to force regime change in Iran.
Iranians suffer greatly under the rule of the tyrannical and un-elected corrupt Mullahs. But it is unrealistic to expect them to rise against this ruthless regime that has no qualm killing any number of people to stay in power. The majority of Iranians live in poverty while their rulers spend billions of dollars of their money to promote their revolution in Lebanon, in Palestine and in Iraq. They are ready to rise and topple the regime but they can’t do it on their own. You can’t fight revolutionary guards who happily will shoot you with your bare hands.
To solve the problem of the Middle East the regime in Iran must change. Iran is the head of the snake. This head must be quashed. Although weak and fragmented, there is already an Iranian opposition in Diaspora and inside Iran. This opposition must become strengthened and armed. With the military backing of America it is possible to change the regime in Iran without invading the country with American soldiers. Iranians can remove the Mullahs if they are helped to become organized and armed.
The problem of Islamism that is now threatening the peace of the world began with Islamization of Iran and it will also end with Iran. It is time to divert all our attention to Iran and do everything necessary to remove the Mullahs. Iran is much ripper for democracy than Iraq or any Muslim country. We must not forget that Iran was the first Middle Eastern country that in the early years of the twentieth century strove to establish democracy and succeeded. Iranians have been fighting for democracy for over a century. On two occasions the British undermined their fledgling democracy. One was in 1925 when Britain helped the dictator Reza Khan to cripple the parliament and become the de facto ruler and king and the other in 1953, when CIA under the British instigation plotted a coup and removed the father of Iranian democracy Dr. Mossadeq to install Mohammmad Reza Pahlavi, the inept and yet despotic son of Reza Khan.
It is no exaggeration to say that America and Britain nipped in the bud the democracy in Iran and all because of oil. The British thought it was much easier for them to deal with one dictator. What the British did in Iran was no less inhumane and unjust than the opium war that they waged in China. Now the monster that these two countries have unleashed has come to haunt them. It’s time that they undo the wrong that they committed and help Iranians to re-establish their democracy. Now, for the first time, the interest of the people of Iran coincides with the interest of America and Britain.
Who won the war is not clear yet. It all depends what we do or don’t do. If the Mullahs in Iran are toppled, the west has won the war. If nothing is done, Hezbullah, Iran and ultimately Islamic terrorism will be the winners.
