Sharia, as we all know is Allah’s holy law handed down to Prophet Muhammad, or so he claimed. While we are all aware of the barbaric medieval punishments meted out under the garb of Sharia and its biased treatment of women, Muslims all over the world swear by it. In the following passages, we shall attempt to find some of the reasons for the Muslim’s fascination with the Sharia.
Islam and the Sharia are well packaged products that tell a caged bird about the dangers of the world outside…about the hunters, snakes, eagles and other birds of prey out to get them. It doesn’t tell them however, about the open blue sky, the freedom to fly anywhere, the trees, the flowers, the running streams and the singing brooks. Both Islam and Sharia can be compared to a bikini – what they reveal is obvious, what they conceal is vital.
Let us start by citing a few cases of “justice” Sharia style:
- In a major Pakistani city a lady doctor was raped by a ward boy. She sought justice, but the courts ruled against her, as the ward boy claimed that she was not fully covered; hence the crime was justified. The Sharia court accepted this argument and the accused was let off. The victim meanwhile received death threats for daring to pursue the case. She was fortunate though that her husband, an engineer by profession stood firmly by her and decided to fight back. However the entire judicial machinery turned hostile and they had to flee to America, from where they continue to fight their case. It has to be noted here that in most such cases, the husband would surely abandon his wife, if not kill her, as rape is considered a woman’s fault...
- In a village in India with a Muslim majority, a young woman was raped by her father in law. The village Sharia committee ruled that she was now the father in law’s “wife” and her husband was now her “son”. As Sharia is not recognized in India, some members of another community informed an NGO and the police were notified. The old man who tried to emulate his prophet in a non Islamic country got a taste of true democracy. He was convicted of rape and received a jail sentence. In an Islamic country, this lecherous man would have continued to live with his “wife”.
- In a village in Pakistan, a girl was ordered by Sharia clerics to be raped by ten men because her brother had eloped with a girl from that village. So the sister had to “pay for her brother’s crime”.
There are thousands of similar cases or worse that occur in Islamic countries, wherein innocent Muslims, mostly women are sacrificed at the altar of modesty and chastity. Most of the cases go unreported, and studies indicate that the actual number of incidents involving Sharia is several times higher.
It is worth noting here that the most barbaric Sharia crimes take place in poor African countries, where Sharia has even become an election issue. Also worth noting here is the fact that Sharia is implemented in varying degrees in different countries. Saudi Arabia practices the strictest version, with punishments ranging from beheading to cutting off limbs and gouging off the eyes. But then Saudi Arabia is a wealthy nation and their local population doesn’t need to commit crimes that attract capital punishment. Nearly all of those sacrificed in the name of Sharia in Saudi are non locals. Would Saudi have practiced this version of the Sharia if it were a poor nation is anybody’s guess? It’s easy for a rich man to talk of values but ask a woman on the street and she’ll tell you that it’s cheaper than a loaf of bread. The more you suppress human rights, the more adventurous people get, and you don’t have to look beyond Saudi Arabia for evidence of that too. Saudis are known to crossover and spend weekends in Bahrain, a lot more liberal country.
From the examples cited above and the sheer number of atrocities committed by the Taliban and other fundamentalists, you would be tempted as a thinking individual, to assume that Muslims hate the Sharia. But the opposite is true. And the culprits are not Muslims themselves, it is Islam. Islam is a faith that uses a sterile needle to deliver a lethal dose. It gives you a vision, but doesn’t allow you to see.
Islam gives you a false sense of security. It makes you believe that you are constantly under threat from the infidels and your only hope is Allah. What is fascinating is that Muslims in the west and other non Islamic nations who enjoy all the trappings of a liberal and developed society also share this view. Why then you would wonder? Do Muslims want to submit themselves to an ancient barbaric law that has no place in the modern civilized world?
The answer is simple. While other religions give their followers the right to think and act accordingly, Islam doesn’t. The fact is that Muslims don’t want to think for themselves. They are happy to let the mullahs dictate terms to them; never mind if those mullahs have been through more metal detectors than schools. Even educated and highly qualified Muslims are no better.
Another reason is the Muslims born fascination for violence and domination. Concepts like education, career, intellect and civilized society don’t make sense to them. It’s an open secret that Muslims admire mobsters because they see them as macho. These are role models for the average Muslim, and many aspire to walk in their footsteps. They see them as “saviors” and people representing Islamic might. In this light, a recent report that a majority of Pakistanis now openly support the Taliban comes as no surprise.
Most Pakistanis now see their American backed government as infidels and not worthy of support. They see the Taliban as a better alternative because of their fascination for “real men” with machine guns who dare to take on the infidels. That those guns could turn on them some day is something Islam doesn’t allow you to see.
Muslims are known to be violent within the confines of their own homes too, especially with women. Crimes against women like wife beating, rape, marital rape, honor killings go unpunished in Islamic countries. The Sharia provides you with that much needed “feel good factor” after committing a heinous crime. You can sleep peacefully after slitting your wife’s throat simply because you saw her speaking to a stranger. You can behead your daughter for venturing out without a hijab. And you can do all of these and a lot more without an iota of guilt, because the Sharia is on your side. If Allah approves of it, it can’t be wrong, can it? Now compare that with the civil laws of non Muslim nations and it’s easy to see why Muslims prefer the Sharia. Of course, that’s male opinion. The opinion of women didn’t matter to Allah or his holy prophet then; neither do Muslims bother with it now.
It’s perfectly safe to assume that Muslims are fully aware of the dark side of the Sharia (it doesn’t have a bright side anyway). The truth is that they are willing to offer themselves as guinea pigs in the larger interests of Islamic globalization. They see the Sharia as a major tool to achieve that goal. And this is exactly why they’re demanding that Sharia be adopted in non Islamic countries including the developed west. They know very well that if non Muslim countries cave in and allow Sharia for Muslims, it’s only a matter of time…
Besides giving Muslims a false sense of security that come from the barrel of a gun, Islam also preys on communities that it sees as oppressed. It saw an easy target in the African American community that was a victim of racism, effectively converting nearly one third of America’s African American population to Islam. It’s carried out a similar coup in some African countries.
It is important that all nations treat their citizens equally, irrespective of caste, creed, race or color. They need to know that Islam is lurking just round the corner, to cash in on their mistakes. And if Islam succeeds, a nation can fail. Politicians in non Muslim countries, who play the Muslim card for votes, could very well find themselves in the voters queue.

To assume the role of a writer, one has first of all to remove the glasses of subjectivity from his eyes. Sanjay Khanna has clean forgotten to do it. That is why his understanding of Islam is myopic and prejudiced…..hence devoid of objectivity. I bet he does not know the literal meaning of “SHARIA” about which he has so outspokenly deliberated. He knows nothing about Real Islam, and his thoughts and writings thrive upon hatred-mongering propaganda. I can easily elaborate here how dirty class system his own Religion possesses and practices. But his gaze is outwardly, without first analyzing himself inwardly, and without cleansing his own house. But this is not my point for writing here.
He has no knowledge about the tribes overwhelmingly occupying the land of Pakistan…and that they are living on their own ancient barbaric traditions, not according to the tenets of Islam. Their own ancient discipline of local courts and JIRGAS over-rules and surpasses the virtues and values that Islam so explicitly advocates. They supercede the constitutional courts of Pakistan and its codes -- in their judgments. If they insist they are Muslims, which in fact they are not, all the blame of their judgments and decisions and actions goes against Islam. And people of myopic understanding like Mr. Khanna, exploit the news items they come across for disgorging their innate prejudices.
Almost all the people of Pakistan denounce the Taliban movement. Talibaans are in reality Mullahs and the only class of Pakistani society that identifies with them and might have sympathies with them, are the Mullahs. Who does not know the negative approach of Mullahs (of any religion) to the virtues of human societies and civilizations? Europe could only prosper and develop when they ousted their Mullah from their lives and sent him home (back to Church). So-called SHARIA was made by old-timer Mullahs, and is totally repugnant to Islam as detailed in Quran.
This Mullah community is very powerful in Pakistan (thanks to successive dictatorial regimes, who always needed Mullah to enslave people spiritually/mentally). They have a very crooked past and very doubtful origins. They are the later products of Islamic uprising…..probably 2nd century Al-Hejira. Enlightenment of the modern times is spreading fast in Pakistan. They are no longer listening to Mullah and no longer follow his edicts blindly. The true face of Islam is emerging slowly and steadily, thanks to modern scholars and their logical interpretations.
Mr. Khanna, there are millions of Muslims in the Western societies, living peacefully, interacting socially and playing a constructive role. There are seldom occasions of unrest among them. I must admit I think that aurangzaib yousufzai has a point about the third "Sharia" example. That does sound like a tribal response rather than a Sharia/Islamic one.
However, aurangzaib yousufzai is in great danger of committing "Takfir" when he declares those people to be non-Muslim. Bad muslims, ignorant muslims - yes - non-muslims, no.
Sharia: The term means "way" or "path to the water source".
Given the desert origin of Islam and the consequent fact that water = life, it is reasonable to interpret "Sharia" as meaning "the way of life".
This is further re-inforced by the way in which Sharia and the Sunna allow the 'devout' Muslim to decide every action of their waking lives (and how to lie down to sleep) according to this 'way'.
Thus: no thought by the individual is required (beyond deciding what 'bit' of Sharia/Sunna applies in a given situation).
I only wish aurangzaib yousufzai were right when he said "almost all the people of Pakistan denounce the Taliban movement."
The Pakistan/Afghanistan border has always been so porous as to be effectively non-existent and Taliban killers from Afghanistan regularly flow to and from their safe-havens in North-West province. If AY's word were true they would have no safe havens in Pakistan.
Furthermore, given that the SWAT valley has been ceded to the Taliban (which also would not have happened if "almost all" the people didn't want it and helped the Pakistani forces root them out, I think this is further evidence of the pro-taliban feeling in at least parts of Pakistan.
Admittedly, many Pakistanis are now fleeing this area - especially in response to the Pakistan forces assault - so perhaps they are coming to realise that the Taliban is not "what is was cracked up to be" (or maybe they are - and that is why they are fleeing!).

Sharia Law has four sources: The first two (primary) sources are the Qur’an and the Sunna, and the other two complementary sources are consensus (Ijma) and analogy (qiyas).
Thus Sharia goes right back to "old-timer Mullahs" like Mohammed, his companions and the Rightly Guided Caliphs.
Never did I think to hear a Moslem dismissing the Prophet of Islam as "an old-timer Mulah"!

I might disagree with his numbers, but the muslims he describes in such glowing terms are far from 'orthodox' in their attitudes and are unlikely to take Sharia seriously. They will be that relatively rare animal - an enlightened Muslim.
Unfortunately, all to many of the "millions of Muslims" living in the West, whilst not active supporters of terrorists etc are 'closet sympathisors' to their cause - as talking to them will demonstrate when they excuse such actions.
Nowhere in the acticle is 'hate' preached. Saying that "Islam is prone to violence, expansionist and that Sharia Law is manifestly unfair to women and kufr" is not expressing hatred (or incitement) (actually it is demonstrable truth) - it bears no equivalence to "Kill all those who oppose Islam" (to quote the banners on a march here in UK), which latter is clearly both.

Pakistan (MNN) ― A family mourning the murder of their nine-year-old daughter is getting little help from officials in Pakistan.
Voice of the Martyrs Canada reports that Nisha Javid was walking near her home in the Punjab province in April when she was abducted. The gang who took her proceeded to rape her, beat her and then leave her in a canal. Her body wasn't found until two days later.
While police were involved in the search for Javid, they have since stopped seeking to apprehend the perpetrators. Local Christians believe that the violent act was used as an intimidation tactic, noting that it took place the day before the Good Friday holiday.
In Pakistan, Christians get very little recognition in the legal system. Christian men's testimonies are worth half that of a Muslim man. It is less for women. Their testimony is considered worth just a quarter of that of a Muslim man. This leaves women and young girls like Nisha Javid as targets for extremist Muslim groups. Justice is often not received for rape cases.
Javid is not the only child who has been targeted by anti-Christian groups. Recently, an 11-year-old boy was killed near his church in Pakistan. Voice of the Martyrs Canada has said that these groups aren't necessarily planning attacks. Sometimes, they kill Christians who simply seem to be in the way.

In Pakistan 1.5% of the population are Christian. Pakistani law mandates that "blasphemies" of the Qur'an are to be met with punishment. Ayub Masih, a Christian, was convicted of blasphemy and sentenced to death in 1998. He was accused by a neighbor of stating that he supported British writer, Salman Rushdie, author of The Satanic Verses. Lower appeals courts upheld the conviction. However, before the Pakistan Supreme Court, his lawyer was able to prove that the accuser had used the conviction to force Masih's family off their land and then acquired control of the property. Masih has been released.[44]
The Christian community in Pakistan is the target of attacks by Islamic extremists.[45]
On September 25, 2002 two terrorists entered the "Peace and Justice Institute", Karachi, where they separated Muslims from the Christians, and then murdered eight Christians by shooting them in the head [3]. All of the victims were Pakistani Christians. Karachi police chief Tariq Jamil said the victims had their hands tied and their mouths had been covered with tape.
In November 2005 3,000 militant Islamists attacked Christians in Sangla Hill in Pakistan and destroyed Roman Catholic, Salvation Army and United Presbyterian churches. The attack was over allegations of violation of blasphemy laws by a Pakistani Christian named Yousaf Masih. The attacks were widely condemned by some political parties in Pakistan.[46]
On June 5, 2006 a Pakistani Christian stonemason named Nasir Ashraf was working near Lahore when he drank water from a public facility using a glass chained to the facility. He was assaulted by Muslims for "Polluting the glass". A mob developed, who beat Ashraf, calling him a "Christian dog". Bystanders encouraged the beating and joined in. Ashraf was eventually hospitalized.[47]
One year later, in August 2007, a Christian missionary couple, Rev. Arif and Kathleen Khan, were gunned down by militant Islamists in Islamabad. The "official" position in Pakistan is that the killer was a fellow Christian, and that the killings were "justified" as an honor killing under the false pretext that the missionaries were engaged in sexual harassment, an assertion widely doubted in the international media, as well as by Pakistani Christians. Here is the story from Compass Direct of two Christian sisters, age 14 and 18 who were abducted, repeatedly raped and forced to convert to Islam. Later in court, their father was actually beat up by the kidnappers and their lawyers while they were waiting for the case to come before a judge. The case is yet to be resolved.
Response: This was very similar to a case last year that I wrote about where a Pakistani court initially gave custody of two teenage Christian girls to the Muslim kidnappers, but later the youngest was given back to the parents.
This is becoming a horrific pattern of persecution in Pakistan. Christian girls are becoming an easy target of kidnapping and rape with little or no consequences for the Muslim perpetrators.
Muslim clerics seem more than happy to write up conversion docs to protect the criminals–incredible! On top of that, a biased Pakistani legal system always favors Muslims over Christians, even obvious rapists and kidnappers. The Muslim judges are happy to recognize any so-called conversion to Islam–even when everyone involved knows that the whole thing is bogus and criminal.
This is a wonderful example of Sharia law in action. Meanwhile, Muslims in Europe and in this country continue to ask for their own court system–a system which is diametrically opposed to Western jurisprudence.

It is great to hear from Shaheed how he evolved out of this "culture". Poma told us deep touching stories about misbehavior of Muslims against these poor Pakistani Christians. The fact alone that their testimony is half of that of a Muslim should be told again and again to Western Muslims. They should be asked which laws they prefer, ours or theirs. Together with us they should protest these laws and customs in Islamic countries vehemently, otherwise so many of their complaints about the West and India seem so hypocritical to me.
Aurangzaib Yousufzai may well have a few points. Maybe some of these Pakistani's are not so much ruled by Islamic principles as by ancient tribal ones. And what he told us about the Mullahs of the Taliban may be true too.
Then it should be no problem for Muslims like him to side with democratic nations against other Muslims like the "According to Islam wrongly behaving-Muslims" as he describes them. People like him owe no allegiance to Wrongly behaving Muslims. In fact, in a previous post he has already distanced himself of a great part of the Muslims, who are living after the ways of the horrid Ahadith.
It seems to me that he in part agrees with most of us! Why then does he keep talking mostly about "this hatred-campaign", this "lying" of FFI? it seems to me he is somewhere in the middle between some radical Muslims and Ali Sina and FFI. Should I be patient to allow a reformation to take place in islam? The non muslims have been sleeping cowardly for so long and you never utilized that opportunity except throwing abuses at their faiths that they are polytheists and will burn in hell. Your reply is biased and I’m not surprised at all because you are a Pakistani Muslim. All Pakistani Muslims seek to justify the wrongs of their religion and their government. It is for this reason that the administration manages to brainwash them against India. If Pakistan treats its citizens equally why are Hindus running away leaving their land and belongings behind? Do Indian Muslims leave India and go to Pakistan? Why has your government not done anything when the Taliban persecuted Sikhs demanding huge taxes from them? Do Muslims in India pay tax to Hindus?
Why do your civil courts require two women to testify against one man? In case of minorities, four women’s testimony equals one man. Can you explain that? Browse the web and you will find thousands of cases where minority women (Hindus and Christians) are regularly raped, murdered and their bodies thrown in the gutters. Can you post me some links where a Muslim was convicted for rape and murder of a Hindu or Christian? You can’t excuse yourself by saying Pakistanis don’t support it – they are involved in it. They do it openly because of tacit support from the police and the judicial system that looks the other way.
If there have been riots in India, Muslims themselves are to blame. They have never been loyal to this country. Can you imagine what would happen if Hindus and Christians in Pakistan hoisted flags of other nations on Pakistan’s Independence Day? Can you even think of what would happen if Hindus in Pakistan celebrated Indian victory over Pakistan in cricket matches? What would you do if Hindus in Pakistan openly supported India? If there is only one Islam, it should be obvious why Islam is blamed for the conduct of its followers, when these followers do their bad deeds in the name of Islam and have much hostile propaganda and plans against Western Democratic nations and India. Like you, by the way.
There are Al Qaida and Taliban who commit terrorist acts in the name of Islam. We hear much about oppression of women and minorities in the name of Islam. We hear of laws about capital punishment of apostacy in Islamic countries, whereas in Democratic countries everybody is free to leave every religion. The list of reprehensive and hostile behavior (to us) in the name of Islam is long.
And when you say that despite of this Islam should not be blamed for the conduct of ist followers, then I wonder; When it doesn't have influence on their bad behavior, does it have influence on their good behavior? Or no influence at all? I mean, if you are so sure "playing the blame-game" is wrong, why are you so sure "playing the praise-game" is right? After all, both blame-game and praise-game can be played with quotes from the Quran and Ahadith and their interpretation. Isn't it most likely both are in part correct and incorrect?
Or are there many Islams, because for instance in Europe Tariq Ramadan tells his audience that Islam is perfectly compatible with Democracy, while other Muslim leaders reject democracy as a man-made invention that does not work as well as the instructions that God gave to mankind.
You are apparently a Quran-only-Muslim whereas most Sunni and Shia Muslims also consider the Ahadith holy books. We hear many wonderful stories about the prophet Muhammad, from Quran and Ahadith. But also many bad stories about the Prophet and his teachings, from these scriptures.
If there are many Islams, please let us Westerners and Indians know how Islam is divided. Which variations of Islam are compatible with democracy and which are its enemies? If you are in disagreement with other so-called Muslims please make us clear whose side you are on. Please regard the so-called hate-speeches as directed against these other Muslims, who give abundant cause to them. Please stop complaining about our all too logical criticisms and anger and fear of these others.

The Arabic word 'Qur'an' is derived from the root 'qara'a', which means "to read" or "to recite." This was the command which the angel Gabriel supposedly asked Muhammad three times to do when he confronted him in July or August 610 C.E. in the Hira cave, situated three miles north-east of Mecca (Mishkat IV p.354).
According to Muslims the Qur'an is the final revelation from Allah. In Arabic the Qur'an is also referred to as 'Al-Kitab' (the book), 'Al-furkan' (the distinction), 'Al-mas'haf' (the scroll), and 'Al-dikhr' (the warning), as well as other names.
For those who like statistics, you may be interested to know that the Qur'an consists of 114 chapters (suras), made up of 30 parts, 6,616 verses (ayas), 77,943 words, and 338,606 letters. According to Islamic scholars 86 of the suras were revealed in Mecca, while 28 suras were revealed at Medina. Yet, as portions of some suras were recited in both places, you will continue to find a few of the scholars still debating the origins for a number of them. The suras vary in length and are known by a name or title, which are taken from the general theme of that sura, or a particular subject, person or event mentioned in it. This theme may not necessarily appear at the beginning of the sura, however.
Each verse or portion of the sura is known as an 'aya', which means "miracle" in Arabic. Muhammad claimed that the Qur'an was his sole miracle, though the Qur'an did not exist in its written form during his lifetime. In fact much of the controversy concerning the chronology of the Qur'an can be blamed on the fact that he was not around to verify its final collation. But more about that later. To begin with, let's start with the question of revelation: how does Islam understand this concept, and could their view on it be one of the reasons we don't see eye-to-eye concerning our two scriptures?
