As for your question on superiority or inferiority is concerned, it is purely by character and conduct alone. A Shudra who is following scriptural mandate is much superior to vile Brahmin relative and is treated on par with other Brahmins who follow good conduct.

If one shows the symptoms of being a brahmana, kshatriya, vaisya or sudra, as described above (nishkama karma , doing one's duty without self interetsts), even if he has appeared in a different class, he should be accepted according to those symptoms of classification.Bhagavatam 7.11.35

I write below the essence of varnasramadharma.

People everywhere were/are divided into four 'varnas' or 'castes' (brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya and sudra) based on the 'guna' or quality born of prakrti (nature) - satvam, rajas & tamas- found in individuals.

Brahmana means one who know Brahman (God). This is possible through studying scriptures (Vedas, Vedantas, Upanishads and sastras) and living accordingly.

Those dominated by rajo-guna are considered as ksatriyas and those who have all three gundas more or less in equal measure are considered as vaisyas and finally those dominated by tamo-guna are considered as sudras.

And the measure of these gunas vary in individuals at various times, climes and places. In other words, a person considered as brahmana today may not have predominance of satva-guna tomorrow thereby changing his status from brahmana to that caste appropriate to the gunas predominant in him at that particular time and a sudra today may acquire more of satvia guna tomorrow and so on.

To substantiate the above, let us see what the scholar who translated Bhagavad-Gita and Bhagavatam with elaborate purport from Sanskrit to English, His Divine Grace Shri Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada, founder of ISKON, writes about caste (www.krishna.com)

Brahmana is a title, a position, like that of a High Court judge. The son of a High Court judge cannot automatically become the judge of a High Court. He has to acquire the necessary qualifications to become a High Court judge. Similarly, the son of a brahmana has to acquire the qualitieis required to become a brahmana; if not, he is not to be considered a brahmana. It is the same with all other castes.

In other words, caste of a person is determined based on his thoughts and consequent words and actions, not by birth.

The caste system being practiced in India at present is not in accordance with the scriptures; it is against the spirit of Sanatana Dharma scriptures.

lea, considering that islam does not teach respect for others of other religions - I think that you are being very disingenuous in your statement to us. Muhammed showed no respect for unbelievers, or even Muslims not fighting for 'Allah's Cause', or supporting those who do so with their wealth. He called them hypocrites.
