As a complementary tidbit , it is also well-known that the Prophet-pbuh either disliked dogs or suffered negative superstitions and aversions to them. I've read that this phobia to Man's Best Friend is also widespread in the Ummah.

What an interesting and bizarre phenomenon, that the quirks of one Iron Age guy can exercize mind-control over 1bln people, centuries thereafter, even over their taste in pets.

Personally, I have to say that love doggies, but don't mind cats either. This may change, however, in in light of what you report.

I am unsure of the credibility of this article. It's true that Muslims prefer cats and hate dogs due to the superstitious of "Prophet". The parasite arguments are weak as other type of parasites exist in many other pets as well. Roundworm and Heartworm exist in puppies and dogs.

In the meantime, the Japanese likes cats more than dogs too, same with ancient Egyptian. Does that cause them to act more violent than other human? Do you mean that fondness of cats will cause someone to act in imbalance?

It's good to expose Islam and its cruel illogical teaching, but I dont think this article is scholarly enough to be pasted in FFI. Cats, dogs, rabbits and Guinea pig all contains certain parasites.

It had creativity and some interesting scientific facts. So, why not, even if FFI folks don't agree with the article 100%, I am still glad that FFI published it and I had a chance to read it.

I remember my former in-laws had a cat...he was a little b..ch! He finally learned to move out of my way when we crossed paths.

Inidan people normally do no believe in killing and beating of any animal let it be cat, dog, cow or elephant.

According to my personal observation Muslims are not much interested in pets here in Pagalistan (Pakistan). the only exceptions are pigeons and parrots. The fact is that they dont feel much abhorance towards cats because of "Abu Hurarira", a companion of Muhammad who is said to have a lot of cats.

As for black cats - I am a Christian, and I have had black cats. When one doesn't have a grasp on reality then they believe all sorts of superstitions - just like mohammed. A black cat did not ask to be born black.

Mr Ibn Kammuna, thanks for reminding me. I was getting a little carried away, because cats are cute animal that loves freedom and independence. On the other hand, dogs are embellished with virtues of submission and loyalty to its master, something that absent from cats' innate behavior. I think Mr Ali Sina agreed with me in this as he is also keeping cats as pet.

Black cats or black dogs are not devil, this is one of the horrendous superstition in Islam. That's why Muslims do not go well with dogs even if they act as if so superficially. In case anyone is thinking that cats pose a greater health-risk to humans, may I point out that humans can get Toxocara (T.Canis) from dogs, in particular from contact with dog faeces. It can also be contracted from cats (in the form T. cati), but this is less prevalent due to the cats habit of burying their faeces.
Generally the risk of infection from dogs is higher - due to the dogs' (or perhaps their owners') lesser concern with hygiene (if I many be excused the anthropomorphism).

That said I like dogs and cats and animals in general and do not think them a source of risk to humans.

On a philosophical point, I would have thought that Mo would have rather liked the dogs' "slave mentality" rather than the cats' "independant spirit"; but I suppose not everything goes according to type!

Christians have black cats in their homes. As for me there used to be stray black cats around my house and I had no problem with their presence.

I love dogs and cats although I don't have neither of them. I do have a Cockatiel ( bird ). I love her and she is my baby.

As far as my experience having wild black cats and other cats around the vicinity of my house, I dont see any bad luck. There is this cat that apparently dependent on me for her food and I have to feed her everyday, but in actuality, the dependent is superficial.

Another cats (one white, one complete black) are wild but occasionally comes to beg food from me. I have been feeding them for more than 1 year but they are still wild and maintain distance whenever I approach them. If it's a dog, I think twice or thrice feeding is sufficient to tame them.

Cats are fond of independence and freedom. They dont like to be caged or constrained. But when it comes to hygiene, cats are excelled than dogs. Based on my observation of cats, whenever they are relaxing, they will clean their fur and never miss to "comb" them. Even after eating, cats will clean their mouth and most cats covered their urine and excrement under the soil or sand. Most dogs dont.

All these are my experience of dealing with cats. Of course there's exception and some cats like the "Persian Cats" that have very long fur all over their bodies are very dependent on human, lazy, passive, etc.

My parents have two sweet dogs who do not go in the yard. One is a black dog...hahaha...anyway, they both go to a certain spot to go poopy doo. One actually goes into the woods. I take that back...one dog is in door/outdoor and treated like a princess! lol My momspoils her rotten! lol

I was just wondering....are we allowed to send in articles against Christians, Hindus, Atheists, Buddhists, Wiccans etc.? I thought this was an anti-Islamic site.....if so....then why are people insulting other members regarding their religion. How can we fight a war against Islam if we're going to sit and fight against each other. A couple of months back this sort of thing was commonplace on this site, many Hindus were just as much or more attacking Christianity than Islam. And there was a FreedomFighter67 that vehemently slandered Hindus.
Many FFI-visitors tried to reason with them that this is a site about Islam and the Islam was a much bigger threat and worse than Christianity. But that did not help. Finally the moderators began to intervene. They warned visitors that this was a site about Islam and started deleting comments as being "Off-Topic" or
"Irrelevant". And many FFI-visitors expressed their appreciation of this. It indeed cleared the air a lot. Presumably out of irritation, many Hindus and FF67 did not appear any more on this site. Some Hindus indeed seemed to start their own site against Christianity. Now it comes back a little, I hope the moderates keep vigilant.
