Glancing over the comments that have appeared on the Arabic-language online media about the Pope’s lecture in Germany, I noticed most of them have been very critical. Western media, on both sides of the Atlantic, have dealt at length with the Pontiff’s words, and with some reactions coming from the Muslim world.

I decided to write this essay after a comment from a journalist, not a Leftist by my country's standards, who dismissed Eurabia as merely a conspiracy theory, one on a par with The Protocols of the Elders of Zion. I do not disagree with the fact that conspiracy theories exist, nor that they can be dangerous. After all, the Protocols and the Dolchstosslegende, or "stab in the back myth" - the idea that Germany didn't lose WW1 but was betrayed by Socialists, intellectuals and Jews - helped pave the way for Adolf Hitler and the Nazis before WW2.

Defining Turkey Today

Turkey has been in the news lately; occasioned by Pope Benedict XVI’s visit to the country, as well as its persistent attempt to join the European Union. Unfortunately, in dealing with the latter subject, not much clear information comes from the mainline news media to help us understand what the implications would be if a 70-million Muslim country became a full member of the EU.

Dr. Laina Farhat-Holzman Is vengeance in human beings hard-wired, or is it cultural? If it were hard-wired, we would all have it – but we don’t. It is worse in some places than in others. I remember as a child being told that “sticks and stones can break our bones – but names can never harm us.” This mantra instructs children in our own society that we are not compelled to get even for an insult.
