Nearly 1,000 women and girls in Pakistan were murdered in 2011 in honour killings, worrying figures have revealed.
A new report by Pakistan’s leading human rights group has revealed at least 943 women were killed last year by their fathers, husbands or brothers for damaging their family name. Ninety-three of those killed were minors.
“Our goal was to understand why monogamous marriage has become standard in most developed nations in recent centuries, when most recorded cultures have practiced polygyny,” says UBC Prof. Joseph Henrich, a cultural anthropologist, referring to the form of polygamy that permits multiple wives, which continues to be practiced in some parts of Africa, Asia, the Middle East and North America.
“The emergence of monogamous marriage is also puzzling for some as the very people who most benefit from polygyny — wealthy, powerful men — were best positioned to reject it,” says Henrich, lead author of the study that was recently published in the journal Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society. “Our findings suggest that that institutionalized monogamous marriage provides greater net benefits for society at large by reducing social problems that are inherent in polygynous societies.”
The legacy of the liberty and dignity enjoyed by the Arab women of Jahiliyah days has been analyzed in Part 2 of this article. Let us now ponder over the reasons behind Muhammad’s Megalomaniac behavior towards women, and also about how to overcome this centuries-old oppression on them. To understand the reasons for Muhammad’s character, one must study the psychological profile of his past. Muslims tell all kinds of myths and fairytales about the childhood of Muhammad. Whatever we are told about Muhammad are either fabricated fables or overly exaggerated.
The fact, which the scholars of the religion of peace didn’t like to tell the believers and Kuffars, is that the pre-Islamic Arabs, by nature, were aggressive and often waged meaningless wars amongst them. This resulted in the decline of males in comparison to females in society. To cover up the difference in the sex ratio, they had no choice but to marry multiple wives. Also, in an effort to produce male-children, they even made the use of their widows. In that sense, the Arab women acted as a tool for producing maximum number of children. Muhammad just Islamized that tradition of his forefathers.
Arab women! It’s time to stop cursing your fate! Enough is enough! It is a pity to be born as women in Muhammadan society in general, and in the Arabian Muhammadan society in particular. It’s a 14-century-old curse upon you. Let us not lose hope. Instead of resigning to your fate, as you have been forced to for centuries, it is time to stand up to reverse the fate of your daughters and granddaughters.

Equality (or in this case, inequality) between the sexes is a very controversial topic in the modern Islamic world. Muslim countries are advancing and trying to catch up with the west, yet women and men cannot have equal rights because Sharia Law states that the value of a woman is half of a man.
Mohammad, of course, is the main reason why polygamy is accepted throughout Islamic countries. He even had his own set of rules that applied only to him. Since he was “special”, he was actually allowed to have 9 wives at once (there were others at different times). This also doesn’t include any of the slaves that he took as wives (a common practice during his time).
Authority. These quotes generally reflect the level of obedience required of Muslim wives to their husbands. The vast majority — 83.4% — of the victims of forced marriages were from Muslim households. Another 10% were Yazidi (a Kurdish religion) and 3.4% were Christians.
