Qaradawi on Dhimmis – I
Ibn Kammuna
My discussion in this series of articles relies on Qaradawi’s book “Non-Muslims in Muslim Society” (Arabic edition – Risala Foundation, 2nd edition, 1983). Page numbers used rely on this edition.
In his book “Non-Muslims in Muslim Society”, Qaradawi , considered the highest authority on understanding and interpreting Sunni Islam, spends most of the book trying to show how good Islam is to Non-Muslims in an Islamic society. His writing is very slick it reminds me of “Slick 50” ( this is a joke that probably an auto mechanic will have a good laugh at). However, even with a book written in a way to deceive Non-Muslims, whether intentionally or not, one can find cues that guide the honest searcher or researcher about Islam.
In this article, I plan to discuss certain aspects of dhimmitude that Qaradawi talks about. After that, I plan to analyze and show the flaws that exist in Qaradawi’s train of thought. Even though I am discussing Qaradawi here, I, in no way, accept the idea of a religiously sanctioned state. Religion must be completely separated from politics and civil laws. In this sense, I endorse the view presented by a well-known statement said by Jesus “Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s” – Bible, American Standard Version (Mark 12:17).
Let me present the reader with some quotes from Qaradawi, with my analysis following that.
On page 20 of Qaradawi’s aforementioned book we read:
“and all that Islam asks from Non-Muslims is to be considerate to Muslims’ feelings, and the sanctity of their religion. So, they should not show (in public – my addition) their rituals, and their crosses, in Islamic territories, and they should not build a church in an Islamic city, where they did not have a church before. The reason is that such a showing presents a challenge to the Muslim feelings, which could cause animosity (fitna) and problems.”
Now, let us think about this for a minute. If you have another religion other than Islam, and had enough members in a city to build a house of worship, it is not a good idea to build such a building if you were living in a Muslim dominated town! Why? When Christians, Jews, Sikh, Hindus, Ahmadis, or any other religious group want to build a house of worship for themselves, they just want to build a house of worship for themselves. Their goal is not to “hurt” the feelings of Muslims. They just want a house of worship for themselves, just like any group of Muslims who want to build a mosque for themselves. Insulting Muslims or causing “fitna” is the last thing a minority group thinks of when they want to build a building for them in a Muslim dominated area. No one who wants to build a house of worship for his/her group has a “hidden” agenda that “I am building this building to hurt Muslims’ feelings or their religion.
On page 20 of Qaradawi’s book mentioned above, he states that non-Muslims have the right to work and make a living just like any Muslim. However, charging interest and making contracts that include interest is not allowed. In a Muslim society “interest”, such as the interest we pay on a mortgage loan for our homes, is not allowed at all for all Muslims and Non-Muslims. The lies of “no interest” in Islamic banking have been exposed by many. I refer the reader to a good analysis on the topic written by Sher Khan titled “Islamic Banging”. I do need to mention that banks do not exist so as not to make money. If no interest is made, banks have to resort to other ways to make money. Muslim banks included. To cover the “interest” concept, for instance, Islamic banks may buy the house for a set price, and at the same time “resell” you the house for a much higher price. They make you sign the documents in one session. You have to pay “their” price through monthly installements. Is there interest in such a dealing? Not according to Muslims!
In any case, the Muslim state enforces her economics rule here, and that in and off of itself is problematic in my view since the state should be out of the business dealings and secular affairs. In addition, the Muslim state is encroaching on the rights of its minorities by forcing them to adhere to a certain form of economic dealings.
On pages 22 and 23 of his abovementioned book Qaradawi says that:
“Dhimmis have the right to take government jobs just like Muslims, except for the jobs that have religious color to them like being an Imam/leader – country president, army leadership, and judicial positions that are for Muslim interactions, and being in charge of charities.”
Being an Imam or Khalifah is a leadership position in religion and in this world. It is a position to take over the position that the prophet held. Anyone who follows in his leadership must be a Muslim,… and the army leadership is not a purely civil job. It is one of the worship jobs in Islam because Jihad is on top of the Islamic worship acts.”
The above quote shows how dangerous to our lives Islam is. You cannot be a president if you are not a Muslim. You may be the most qualified person on the planet to lead the country. But, if you are not a Muslim, you have no chance of being a political leader.
By the same token, you cannot be the leading officer in the army, no matter your qualification or loyalties to the state.
I think the most danger in what Qaradawi is saying is not my criticisms above, but rather the institutionalized purposeful discrimination against non-Muslims because they are non-Muslims. This discrimination stems from and is rooted in the concept of a religious state, a concept that history surpassed and does not belong to our age anymore.
Also, and I hope the readers have noticed, the concept of “Jihad” is clearly defined above. It is not a “spiritual” endeavor as some people may try to tell you. Jihad has violent and military nature to it and is a form of worship in Islam.

Muslims have it their whether in minority or majority position. A muslim was president in India, another a parliamentarian and lord in U K. In other western countries, Muslims attain economic and political prominence, but what do we see of the lot of non muslims in Muslim countries like SA. Not even freedom of worship.

And that you leave it as alms is far better for you, if you
really know. And be fearful of a day when you shall be
returned to Allah, then everybody shall be paid, in full,
what he has earned. And they shall not be wronged.

Qaradawi correctly expresses Islam' discriminatory practices that inhumanely denies religions other than Islam the freedom to build and proselytize in or on Muslims' "territory". Islamic discrimination is not a Kuffar misunderstanding, but a vile tenet of Islam.
So any Muhammadan, dhimmis or useful idiot (politically correct) that says differently is either practicing taqiyah (expedient lie) or they are willfully ignorant of what Islam's vicious tenets say reference other religions. It is pass time for Humanity to let the religion of Islam know that Islam is faith and beliefs and not demonstrable or verifiable fact beyond doubt.
Sahih Muslim Book 19, Number 4366: It has been narrated by 'Umar b. al-Khattib that he heard the Messenger of Allah say: I will expel the Jews and Christians from the Arabian Peninsula and will not leave any but Muslim.
It is the intolerable pompous arrogance of Islam (|Saudi Arabia) that allows no buildings, proselytizing or books of other religions in Saudi Arabia (inventors of Islam). Humanity is grossly negligent in that it tolerates Saudi Arabia (using Democratic "freedom of religion") to build mega – Masjid in almost every country on earth. Yet Saudi Arabia openly discriminates and does not tolerate (by Saudi Laws) other religions to build, proselytize or have Bibles in Saudi Arabia.
Is there a perfect Muslim or Muslimah with enough faith and beliefs to answer as to why Saudi Arabia is intolerant, discriminatory and crushes "freedom of religion"?

It's not only slick, it's sick. Qaradawi is an admirer of Adolph Hitler, which gives you an idea of his attitude towards minorities. He should talk about who should be president – I wouldn't elect him dog catcher.
