The chants were aimed at two Chechen players who are slated to become the first Muslim players to join the team: Dzhabrail Kadiyev and Zaur Sadaev.
Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin (Likud) castigated fans of the soccer club he supports, Beitar Jerusalem. “Today is International Holocaust Remembrance Day. Imagine the outcry if groups in England or Germany said that Jews could not play for them,” said Rivlin. He said he would work to put an end to the club’s anti-Muslim discrimination.
Club coach Eli Cohen, also condemning the fans’ behavior, initially said Saturday night that these were friendly European Muslims not Arab Muslims; he later clarified that he opposed all racist sentiments.
The two Chechen players are expected to arrive in the country this week, according to Israel Radio.
can you imagine parallel story in Islamic world where officials coming out in defense of Jewish/israeli players to play in their soccer team?

prominent personages & officials coming out in defense of the muslims soccer players. in Islamic countries such scenario if reversed would have taken place, unlikely to be told similar. furthermore Ahmed tibi a muslim israeli Knesset member who a custom to pull the “racist” card wrote to a letter to UEFA to bring observers to the National Cup game between Beitar Jerusalem FC and Maccabi Umm al-Fahm FC. according to him the observers will help “quell racist slurs by some of Beitar’s fans, including insults targeting the ‘Prophet Muhammad’ and the Muslim community at large.”
So? Many Chechens are as islamic as I’m christian because I belong to a “christian”-majority country. This story doesn’t even have anything to do with, say, a bunch of Chechens trying to build a mosque right in the middle of this club’s “soccer” field.
Wouldn’t it be more interesting if you rather talked about the notorious past, and ongoing problems between Islamist Chechens and secularist Chechens, or the incompatibility between Sharia and Chechenskie Adati?
There’d be no parallel. There’d be lynchings of the Israeli players and particularly if they were Jews.
