Keep in mind that the Muslim way of prayer is not as simple as the Christians. It is not just reciting a short passage from the book or saying thanks in our own words. It consists of a series of gestures and movements like kneeling, bending over etc.. Each move has its own prayer passage from the Quran that we have to recite. If anything is out of order, then it doesn’t count.

Most of my family members are not aware of my apostasy. Only a handful of them know that I have left Islam. They are very considerate, do not bother me too much, and I would say they are very supportive. Only a handful of my friends know about my apostasy. They are also apostates or have serious doubts about Islam.
This belief by Muslims leads me to question how and when did the religious elite change their text. There is no specific Islamic answer to this. In addition, can a Muslim be convinced that Abu Bakr changed the Qur’an? Does not the same logic apply to other religions? In any case, a Muslim’s insistence that Jews and Christians “changed” their holy text leads me to mention a story that gives some insight into the Muslim’s mentality regarding the above topic. Then, Mohammad went down and saw Moses who convinced him to go back up to god and bargain with him. Mohammad went up again and god lowered the required prayers just a little bit. I have to confess that I always found the actual marriage, or “Nikah”, odd; in one room was the groom and in another was the Bride. The Imam came in and asked them, separately, a question which I understood translated as “Do you want to marry [Nikah] this man/woman” (as appropriate) and receiving an affirmative answer from the man and no objection from the woman, that was that.
